   After playing one or two scenes each day with no problems, now clicking the hint button crashes the game. I wrote twice to Mystery Tag and no reply. Don't have any idea how to fix this.

   The sort of problem you describe should generate an error message so check "Event Viewer" and see if it tells you what caused the problem.

   1st checked reviews at BigFish -- wasn't till the 3rd [last] page I think that read a complaint of tech problems, directing readers to the forums. *To Me* that hints that at least some people were able to play the game fine.

   2nd checked the forums, where I found a list of people with the same complaint, i.e. the Hint button causing a crash. One person reported that BigFish tech support sent them a link to a new driver, & it fixed things. Several others checked & all their drivers were latest. Some people posted that BigFish gave them credit because they couldn't play the game. The developer posted that folks should try their forums &/or tech support, but all in all no cure or fix was posted.

   None of that is to say you shouldn't check Event Viewer as Chris suggested -- just that it is apparently a somewhat common problem that AFAIK no one has pinned down yet.

   BigFish is not known for doing a lot of work to fix a problem. In two cases recently (one a purchased game, one a trial version), They just offered me a free game RATHER THAN troubleshoot the problem.

   They're rather give out additional games than fix the ones that only SOME people have problems with.

   Then again, maybe I'm not being totally fair. In both cases, the games were old enough that the forums for them had been locked.

   Hm... I've recently downloaded this game from toomkygames.com. It works fine for me. No crashes detected after several days of playin' and using hint button (checked that in particular, after stumbling upon this thread)

   Maybe there are different versions of installers on toomky games and on bigfish games?

   I have seen variations in builds from the different sites. One version may crash but another work fine. It is not that common but it does happen.

   However, if you get one of those blanket "game has failed and must terminate" kind of messages, it's usually across the board and you're stuck!

   In general, it's not a bad idea to check other respected and safe sources before giving up.

   There's one game out there that was offered by GOTD YEARS ago and for some reason, that version is the only one I can get to work! All other cases, including those on the freebie circuit fail but that one version keeps chugging on! The game -- Age of Japan.
