I downloaded Expense Tracker yesterday and I LOVE it, it worked great yesterday so I didn't worry about the license.dat file. Unfortunately today when I went to add something it told me that I wasn't registered and had a 30 day trial. I can't find the license.dat file that came with the GOTD, even after doing a search for it. Any suggestions? I'm so lost here, I would really appreciate any help.
Thanks... :)

It think because the licence.dat file is in a hidden file you will first need to make the files hidden before you can find the file. Go to the Start menu and select control panel. Go to the left of the windo and select swich to classic view then find and click on Folder options. This will open up the folder options window. Click on the View tab then click on the box (circle actually) that says show hidden files and folders. Then re-try your search.
Check in yesterdays comments section for the correct place to put the file. Unfortunately I can't remember. I didn't bother installing the software as I don't need to keep track of my expenses. :)
I hope this helps.

What is a winKey? plus E???
Posted 15 years ago # -
hello, anya...
the license.dat file had to be placed in a system file that was hidden...if your folder options are not set to show the hidden ones, you need to change that...
#97 in the comments section, SamGoody, explains how to do that...(for winkey+E, look to the left of your space bar on the bottom of your keyboard...there should be a key there with the Windows logo...press that, then "E" on your keyboard)...
for Vista, see comment #29, Dung Nguyen, showing where to place the license.dat file...also see comment #39, Fubar...
for XP, the giveaway popup after install showed the location as "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Indentix\Expense Tracker\License.dat"
i'm not clear on where you placed the license.dat file that came with the giveaway...maybe you just placed it in the program file, which would not properly register the giveaway?...sorry i can't help you there...

When I first installed yesterdays program I did just that Violet (embarrased sigh). It was only when I re-read the read me that I realized I needed to 'unhide' folders because I already knew that application Data was an hidden folder. Violet could very well be right. I op so as it's easy enought to rectify that mistake, because the registry file will still work post giveaway.
Pease let us know if you fixed it.

Thanks so much Violet, I did uncheck 'Hide these files' and am now doing a search for licence.dat
what a pain! but I love love this program! and I really want to use it forever.,,.. unfortunately I don't have a credit card so I can't buy the version.... but hopefully my search will show something up. When I downloaded the program, I don't remember seeing a licence.dat file at all, so it is probably in the program, but how do I get it out?
Anya/thanks to everyone
I'll be back! lolPosted 15 years ago # -

you're welcome everyone, but really, all the thanks go to the community members that left the comments...
my files were hidden...i threw the license.dat into the program folder...lol...totally lost!...the comments were very helpful...
@anya...
the giveaway zip file had the license.dat file that had to be placed in the hidden folder...
there was already a license.dat file in the hidden folder, & Windows asked me if i wanted to replace the old file with the new one (yes)...
you copy the license.dat file from the giveaway folder to the hidden folder (see my above comment for the path, and note that XP & Vista paths are different)...Posted 15 years ago # -
Violet, please come back and help me once more... lol.. I have found this:
"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Indentix\Expense Tracker\License.dat"but I don't know where to copy it to. I've unchecked "Hide hidden files", but can you tell me where to go to put the Indentix.dat file to ???? Please???? thank you...

Anya
Hi.
Put the license.dat that was provided in the the downloaded giveaway.zip in the same folder.
This will replace the original (trial) license.dat in "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Indentix\Expense Tracker\".
When you restart Expense tracker it should be licensed to Giveawayoftheday.

I don't understand why I can't figure this out! I'm a fairly intelligent woman but for some reason this is causing a big block and I'm getting very very frustrated! I'm about to cry and I know that this isn't worth wasting any tears over. The tears are because I can't figure it out.... *sigh*

How do I know the difference between the trial dat file and the non-trial dat file?... and where before I did a search and found the licence.dat file, now I did a search, with my 'Hide hidden files' unchecked and the search came up with nothing. Excuse me while I pull the hair out of my haid! lol... o sheesh, I;ve never had so much problem with a lousy little file... thanks for your help but I don't know what else to do and as its been a week, I give up... just hoping and praying that they offer it again soon so I can save the zip file, then I don't have to worry about removing the file and reinstalling it... *sigh* Ciao
