   Because of the mess with Jenkat, I can't transition a few games to my new laptop running 8.1. I did a search for one of the game and was told it was free from ArcadeTown.com. They have a page on the site for "All free games". My question is are these games really free? Are they trials? Are they adware? Just what is involved.

   Are there any gotchas such as extra software installed despite you saying no? I don't mind the browser issues (opening upon exit) and hijacking search engines and home pages can usually be circumvented.

   I found some references to the site here by searching but none of the posts are newer than September of 2009. That's quite a while and sites do change.

   I'm just looking for a GOOD substitute for Jenkat.

   I don't have a VM installed at the moment so daren't install any games from that site.

   I'm really busy helping my son with his revision at the moment. It's his GCSE examinations (16 year old) and the results are going to affect what A levels he will be able to take next year, which in turn may determine which university he eventually goes to, so I'm devoting most of the time he's at home helping him with his revision. Once the examinations are over, I will have much more time to check for you. In the mean time we may get other community members willing to help. :)

   Thanks but I'm staying away from them. I did send them an email and they came back that it's trial stuff. You can play the "full" games online but you have to wait through one ad at the beginning of each session of the game.

   I believe that games on arcadetown.com are paid if you want them full version. They say, that you can play free trial version of the game and if you want to play it up to the end, you should order it. So, it's pretty clear that you won't get full version games for free from acradetown.com

   So, there are trial versions that are free. Downloading one of them now to check if it contains any adware or similar creepy stuff.

   Here is un update.

   Well, I've successfully downloaded the trial version of Secret Bunker USSR from arcadetown.
   1. Installer has no digital signature - that's quite disturbingly.
   2. however there is no adware or spyware inside. Trial installers are clean.
   3. It opens a browser window after the install is complete.
   4. On opening the game it tells me that I have 10 uses and 1 hour of gameplay with an option to order full version or enter a key.
