I finally decided to install Windows7.
It's worse than Vista SP1.
I was hoping to be able to customise my look, be able to use my favourite 'bronze style' pointer arrow, nope cannot find that, was hoping to be able to change to 'classic start menu', I could not find that either.
I was using 64-bit Ultimate and it felt slower than 32-bit HP Vista SP2 beta.
I will probably wait a year or so after release like before.
The only ''upgrade'' I missed via home user type windows was windows 2000.
I did 3x, 95, 98, 98se, ME, XP Pro, Vista HP. So in about 12 years I have forked out £1500 on ops (operating systems).
Be honest, I really would prefer to go back to Windows XP Pro.
I sold my serial down the river, moving to Vista HP 32-bit, so unless I fork out a new key, I will stick with Vista HP.
Windows7 needs 2 years more work, IMHO.

Still in beta, then released to the public to push out for a bit more testing, then finally in an attempt to silence the complaints - a service pack.
Yep. 2 years sounds about right. ;)
But that is 2 years in "microsoft time" (kind of like "dog years") - which for everyone else could be anything between 18 months and 4 years.
Hi, guys, posts about your pets - dogs and favourite pointers - please under the chit-chat-thread:

.
Windows 7 is shaping to be an awesome OS. It's everything people wanted Vista to be and more. Which is exactly why Microsoft should give it away—or offer it dirt cheap—to Vista users.
Apple gave away OS X 10.1 for free, and Microsoft should take a lesson there

Google it Results of about 406,000 for microsoft-should-give-windows-7-away
and you need to like blue look like be out this year
Hmm... Installed Win 7 on Virtual PC 2007 SP1, on a Core 2 Duo 2.00GhZ / 4GB RAM host. New user setup is slow as molasses and networking was way screwed up. Had to resort to setting a static local IP and using an external DNS server to make it work. It was awful. Even Windows 98 out-performed the networking (no config). Needs way more work until ready. They should have kept it at alpha for half a year more...
I have been trying it out further, I found icon resize function for desktop, so stand-on-me for not being patient.
I can see lots of coders right now creating softwares that will change the look of Windows 7 to something like XP.
I still think at least 2 years before a release.
For being in Beta, Windows 7 is performing really well. But ya it IS Beta.
But I think Microsoft wants to release Windows 7 at the latest by early next year. And from the looks of Beta, the release will go a lot better then Vista's release.

Microsoft's efforts to make Windows 7 less annoying than Vista may also be making it less secure than its predecessor.

Microsoft has confirmed that it won't issue a second beta of Windows 7
be out at the end of year as can not sell Vista so out it will come

note books kill Vista OK for windows 7

February 2, 2009 (Computerworld) Microsoft Corp. insisted today that what outsiders have called a "security flaw" in Windows 7 is not a bug, but the way the new operating system is meant to work.

I disagree, Windows 7 is way better than Vista. That being said they do need to offer some features that are just for 7 other than the UAC. Remember ya'll this is still the just the early phases of W7/ Give it a chance.
People you have got to rid of this legacy drag your systems. You want xp system thats fine. I want to move on to the next evolution of computing and gaming. This was Vista first attempt, but they should have done it more progressively than to just slam everyone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legacy_system
Xp was wonderful in its time, but its time to let go of that hi-fi vcr and up uograde to that upscale-conversion dvd for your HD moniter. Cheesy analogy, but I hope you get the point.
The only flaw I have found in W7 is that there isn't a default mail service. Everythingelse I found a solution for, unlike Vista's system.
Tonight at 9PM, my battery of hi-fi vcr's will record four different programs, while I watch a 5th I recorded earlier. New isn't always better. Granted I do play to switch to dvhs when I get an over-the-air antenna installed. Where I live analog tv never worked well with a rooftop antenna. Hoping to be able to get a usable signal for my one 1st generation hdtv, as standard def signals (antenna or cable) look like crap on it, and I refuse to enrich our local much despised cableco any further.
MS could eliminate the legacy problem by including built-in virtual machines - if they were'nt so paranoid about theft. With their user base, especially business clients, many of whom use proprietary software, abandoning support would be suicidal.
