An interesting reply from Ashampoo:
I wrote to them about the above and didn't expect a reply. But they did reply as copy/pasted below.
I'm impressed that they replied to an unsupported version, and also that they were honest about it. Also of course, I'm relieved that they confirmed exactly what BentlyTCow said. But still a bit concerned about the legitimacy of the "need help with your PC" link. I suppose it could be safe, but I'd never, ever contact an unknown link for PC help.
Dear Loren,
thank you for your e-mail.
This icon has been placed with the installation of Ashampoo Snap 7, as you´ve chosen within the installation, that desktop icons should be placed. It is a partner from us, it is not another program, just an icon which opens your default browser and browses to the website of that partner, where they offer help for your PC. You can simply delete the icon and then its gone.
Kind Regards

My note to Ashampoo:
R-Number:
Product: Ashampoo® Snap 7
Version: 7.0.10
Operating System: Windows 7
Problem:
I downloaded a trial version of Ashampoo Snap last week from "The Giveaway Of the Day" site.
I assumed that it was a site that is legitimate and in agreement with Ashampoo.
After downloading and installing the program, I found an icon on my desktop for "live pc help" which looked suspicious. When I right clicked on the icon to view it's properties it showed the following:
Target type: http://ashampoo.com/ikot/r.php?id=74
Target: The internet
Target: http://ashampoo.com/ikot/r.php?id=74
Start in: C;|Windows\system32
Comment: Need help with your PC? Call experts for instant help.
I've always assumed the GOTD site works in conjunction with the original Program companies, but this shortcut above makes me wonder now if the Giveaway Of The Day is a not a legitimate site and I downloaded some kind of malware.
I know at that point I have no right to product support from Ashampoo as I have a trial version (I think) but I thought you should be aware of the above, and hope you will advise me if my copy of Snap 7 is legitimate or not. Thank you.
