The Next Web - "Windows 8 protected from 85% of malware detected in the past six months, right out the box"
Win8 includes Microsoft's Security Essentials built-in, though the win8 version is called Windows Defender. Security Essentials has proven to be a maybe OK security app with the main advantage that it's always free -- most anyone can find ratings, test results etc. on how well it does/doesn't compare, but relying on Windows Firewall, I personally don't think Security Essentials really cuts into sales of 3rd party security software. Having it installed already however might prompt a "Why Bother" attitude, which the folks behind BitDefender wanted to counter with a bit of a reality check, publishing test data on what Windows Defender let pass by, and shouldn't have. But The Next Web's Emil Protalinski is a "Glass Half Full" sort of guy, & from the sounds of it a MS Fanboy too, preferring to focus instead on everything Windows Defender did manage to block.
Sounds good to me -- that's slightly better odds than playing Russian Roulette... hey, wait a minute...
