Is anyone else having a problem with activation? I followed the directions in readme, but I am getting a register screen when I open the program. Am I missing something?

Well interesting as I have it registered fine.
Or is this part you are making reference to?

When you press help > register.
In red it quite clearly says 'AVI to DVD burner has been registered'.

I don't mean to hi-jack this thread, as this is about the same software.
I'm having same problem as someone on the comments page:
I downloaded & installed the additional templates, and restarted program afterwards as instructed but none of the new templates show up. Anyone know what's up with this?
EDIT:
I figured out my own problem.
The template installer automatically installs to the Program Files\Wondershare\Video to DVD Burner\templates\ folder. It wouldn't let me change the location. After installation of the templates I had to manually go into that folder and copy the templates into corresponding folders within AVI to DVD\templates\ folders.

I am having problems too.
When I run the activation program, I get "Activation module failed to connect to giveawayoftheday.com. Software activation is not possible at the moment. Please try again later or check your firewall settings".
My firewall settings are OK, they should let the program through, and trying later keeps giving me the same result.
There are only a number of hours left to activate. Please help.
BTW, in my register screen it does not say "Already activated".Posted 15 years ago # -
I get the following error when trying to run the software:
Access violation at address 0078A08F in module GLPlayer.dll.Posted 15 years ago # -

I have a similar image as you posted but mine says in red "How to register AVI to DVD Burner?" "Note e-mail address and password are case sensitive." I used the activation first, then ran set up. Un-installed and repeated the process at least 4 times.I am running Vista Home on my PC.
Any help would be appreciated, I would really like this software if passable.
ThanksPosted 15 years ago # -
Well, this morning (N:B - my time zone is GMT so 8:00) I ran activation file and it says cannot connect to server so I waited till around 11:00 when it worked fine.
Now I run XP Professional, tried Vista in beta, never liked it so didn't upgrade to vista, so not sure if registry navigation is the same.
Another thing, was the activation.exe closed before install?

Let me explain:
Something was going wrong with GAOTD servers in the beginning, and it lasted for a few hours( about 3 hours), you cannot visit the giveawayoftheday.com nor active the wondershare avi to dvd burner during this period. So what you need is:
1. uninstall the program and re-install it.
2. Vista user please run the activation file as "administrator"Posted 15 years ago # -
The activation.exe opened, there was a box that opened, then switched to one asking if i wanted to put GAOTD in my bookmarks very fast. Firefox opened up.
I tried closing firefox then running the setup. Uninstalled, tried the process again, leaving firefox up same thing.
re-installed about 6 times now and every time the same thing. Asking me for a valid e-mail address and password.<Registration Codes deleted>

I DID run as administrator. and my screen says 'not activated'
I do believe it's a Vista thing, since it seems we are the only ones having problems.Posted 15 years ago # -
LuRose, I believe it IS a Vista thing. The giveaways that always have problems are the ones that require to write to HKLM in the registry (most that work fine write to HKCU)
Even people who "think" they are running as admistrator (for Vista) writing to the registry seems to fail. I've put in a request to have this particular error get caught and an error message displayed. Frustrating, because it doesn't happen for all Vista users, all the time - which only makes things worse.
Unfortunately I can't do much testing on this. I'm avoiding Vista until it sucks less than XP. ;)

I am sorry, but I think this is a disgrace, which looks like a scam to me.
Now that I finally seem to manage to get the activation to work, it tells me the giveaway period is over.
What is the use, if you try to activate, but cannot manage to do so, only to see the activation works after the period is over.
Haven't we got any rights then?
I think it will be a good thing to start spreading the word.Posted 15 years ago # -
mrfdes, I do NOT speak for those who run this site, nor the moderators of this site, I ONLY speak for myself, when I say this to you:
You ask the question: "Haven't we got any rights then?"
I answer you like this: " Yes, you certainly do have rights! You have the right to delete this site from your bookmarks. You have the right to never, ever visit this site again. You have the right to never ever obtain any free software from this site again. You certainly have the right to forget that this site even exists. "
Are those enough rights for you?

Excellent, what a rude and arrogant answer.
If that is how the members are treated here, I am going to make sure an investigation is launched regarding the giveaways if that is the attitude here.Posted 15 years ago # -
I've been coming to this site and downloading software for over a year now, and it's not a scam site. I have Vista home, and had no problems at all with the Wondershare AVI to DVD activation. I didn't even notice any problems with the site, however, I always use the mirror link to download rather than the main one.
I do know that if a large number of people have trouble with a download that the Giveaway team works with the software distributor to fix it. Several times they've offered the download again, or did whatever they could to eliminate the problem. If only a few are having difficulties, I would think the assumption would be that there's something going on with the user, not the Giveaway site. I'm not saying the assumption would be correct, but it would make sense.
As far as our "rights", the site specifically says what the timeline and guidelines are for downloading and activation. Everything is above board here. We get the software to try out for free, and the developers hope that we'll buy it if we like it enough to want to upgrade or have technical support. It's not just given away to be nice, I'm sure.
One thing, if a person finds it absolutely impossible to download a specific program from GAOTD for whatever reason, I would bet that over 90 percent of the time, people give names of alternative freeware that does what the paid software does. If someone absolutely had to have something like the AVI-DVD program, then it seems to me that a freeware program would be fine.
Just some thoughts.

Yo, I have a problem. It seems that I had not realized that I needed to run the activate.exe file as admin, and thus wondershare says that it needs to be activated. Any ideas on what I should/can do?
I am really greatfull for GAOTD for all these programs.

About the only thing you can do is
1. Wait for the program (or an equivalent) to be offered again. Programs like these come around every few weeks. Audio/Video rippers/converters/burners/creators they really are a dime a dozen on the internet at the moment.
2. Spend a dime (or a dozen) and register the program - you then own it and can do with it as you like.... or just download the trial - you should get about 2 - 4 weeks of use before it expires. In that time - Point #1 (above) should apply.
3. Grab some freeware to do the same/similar function.
But missing the 24 hour window, our hands are tied. Can't help you there. :(

You could also write to the software publisher, politely explain what happened and ask for help - some will offer you a reduced price (especially when they see the effort you went to trying to get everything to work), and I believe I remember one company giving someone the product for free. Take a shot, what could it hurt?

well, the thing with the trial of wondershare is that it says it puts a watermark on the video...
Posted 15 years ago # -
ill try contacting wondershare, thx for the input. ill make sure to run the activate/setup as admin next time.
