When I click on desktop icon of newly installed GOTD software I get a grey box that pops up and says "item referred to cannot be accessed. You may not have appropriate permissions" This happens even if I right click and open as administrator. I am the administrator and have administrative permission on this computer. The same thing happens when I try to open from the folder containing the installed program. Any ideas? thank you.

ModeratorI Googled on your error message in quotes, & only got this thread - shortened it & went with one of Google's suggestions: "the item referred to by this shortcut cannot be accessed" [no quotes], getting 241,000 hits... Took a quick look at 3 of the results -- 1 was solved by creating a new shortcut, one was fixed by setting UAC back to the default setting, & one seemed a matter of the account not having sufficient privileges. You may want to do the search yourself & see which if any of the results match up with how you've got your PC set up.
As far as not being able to access files or folders... if/when a folder is located in the usual Program Files or Program Files (x86) at default settings win7 will often ask for approval before changing anything [e.g. copying into those folders], but normally that's it. You can change the permission level of a folder by right clicking the folder, selecting Properties from the pop-up context menu, then going to the Security tab. You may also not be able to access a file or folder if it's been locked by other software [e.g. security software or malware], if there's a problem with the file or folder itself, if the file or folder has been deleted but still shows up in Windows' Explorer & so on.
At any rate, need to post more details, Richard, for anyone to give more specific advice/suggestions. No offense intended, at the moment no one knows if the un-named folder actually belongs to the un-named GOTD app because there's just not enough info given. Please help us help you. :)
