I’m getting installation errors – about 15 files can’t be installed (extracted) properly during setup; bad header info and CRC errors mostly. Have downloaded and tried it multiple times following instructions precisely. Win7 64-bit up-to-date. Need help please?
Most of the files extract just fine, only the 15 (or thereabouts) refuse to pass the test. (I've given the setup program access privileges, of course) Would AV really cause a failure in a cyclic redundancy test? Tried downloading again a few minutes ago, deleted existing files, ran setup, got same results.
Yes, AV software could be causing it, but there are other possibilities too. Look in your system Temp folder or just search for RarSFX0 -- if that folder was fully extracted you should have & be able to run the Paragon setup gui, &/or setup.msi. Note that's just something easy to check & try -- not necessarily something I'd expect to be there, but you might have gotten lucky... AV software should have ways to check what files are blocked, &/or quarantined, &/or deleted, or at least a central folder where it places quarantined files -- it'd probably be fairly safe to assume these sorts of actions during the time you were running setup means the AV software's causing problems. Note that data from running setup may still be lingering in memory, so you may have to reboot to get a clean slate so-to-speak, so that telling your AV apps to ignore certain files for example will take hold & work.
I'm not sure which phase is reporting errors when you run setup -- if you determine that it might help -- when you run the GOTD setup.exe here's what's going on... The GOTD wrapper unpacks the WinRAR setup file, which unpacks the Paragon setup GUI [to that RarSFX0 folder], which during setup runs the setup.msi file [also in RarSFX0], & that msi file unpacks the actual program files. When you run the initial, GOTD setup.exe, you'll see the wrapper's confirmation/activation message box -- when the WinRAR self extracting file starts you'll see a message about files being extracted to the Temp folder, & then a list of files as they're extracted -- Paragon's setup GUI gives you different options, like requesting a key from their site -- setup.msi starts by asking you to input the key you received.
If the problems are occurring during any of the steps before running the msi file it could show up further down the line -- you can't unpack verified good files from an incomplete file archive, which is where the CRC errors may be coming from. The .msi file could also be having problems because of Windows Installer or AV software interference. The WinRAR self extractor could be having problems because of AV interference or some incompatibility on your system. The msi file can be run by itself, if setup progresses enough to unpack it -- note that if setup.msi completes, possibly even if it has errors, RarSFX0 will be deleted. If the WinRAR step appears to work, you *may* have to find or create & try another WinRAR self extracting file to verify those kinds of files work on your PC/laptop without errors in the extracted files.
