   been a longtime reader here and java is everywhere and some games use
   it so i thought it was importent to post it here because most people
   don't think to update java

   just remember to uninstall old versions of java after installing a new
   version because not all versions of java will uninstall the old ones

   i'v seen people with multiple versions on there pc after updating it
   because java did not uninstall the old ones

   not a goodthing if the update is for security reasons and java leaves
   old versions behind

   I updated my Java and ran into a hiccup that I finally realized was an application using the very security hole that was just plugged. If you're on a board that uses "addonchat" (works with vBulletin at least), you're not going to be able to get into chat. It wants unrestricted system access and now java blocks that.

   I see I have Java FX and I'm trying to figure out if I have the latest version and to download the latest version. That link won't allow it. It just flip-flops between two pages and you get NOWHERE!

   I finally got it figured out that the new Java 7-5 updates Java FX to 2.1.1 at the same time so I'm OK. Even if I didn't get that silly thing to let me download beans.

   Dragonlair, I know that JavaFX has been part of Java 6, and now 7, downloads for quite a while, so I decided to find out why, or if, it is needed/required.

   For those who are also wondering, if you're a Java developer, then having JavaFX is needed. However, if you are not a developer, then it can be removed.

   Thanks, Suze. I wondered about that but since it's part of the install for Java, it might be difficult to remove it by itself. After all the updates and problems last night with Java, VueMinder Lite, myriaCross Editor and Windows Updates (twice), I'm not sure I even want to think about that kind of complication!

   I'm still locked out of AddOnChat and have notified my board's owner but even then, we're stuck until the developer quits doing what java's security is now blocking.

   Inas - Windows update won't fix that problem. AddonChat is not based on my computer. It's part of the board software for the EMS Cross Stitch Board. They are requiring unrestricted system access and java has plugged that hole. Result - you cannot get into chat if you're running the plugged version of java.

   There is absolutely nothing that can be done except to wait for the developers have fixed their software and the owner of the site downloads and installs the new version. Since there are other known bugs with addonchat, I'm not hopeful of a quick fix.

    You're welcome, Dragonlair. If you do decide to remove/uninstall JavaFX, it's a separate item, and very easy to uninstall, as you'll see it in the list of programs on your computer.

    I hope AddonChat works sooner, rather than later, for you. Hopefully the developers and owner know about the problem, and are in the process of fixing it . . .
