If you've got any out of warranty HP hardware, & haven't purchased their Care Pack Service or a support agreement, availability of any firmware updates ends 2/19/2014.

After a very quick look at the source to see the Neowin article seemed accurate, I noted the url for the HP page until I was logged into GOTD again -- fortunately HP's clarified their policy as you've noted -- unfortunately they hadn't done that yet when I checked & copied the url.
