For the past few days I have been visiting the Game Giveaway of the Day Site but haven't found anything new. It seems to be stuck on the Jan. 1st giveaway. Am I missing some thing? Isn't it suppose to change from day to day? Am I doing something wrong that I can't find the new game giveaways? I've looked on the 'Giveaway of the Day' site for a link to the 'Game Giveaway of the Day' page with no luck.

Hi skooterfd and welcome to our forums. While regular software is offered here daily games are only offered on the weekends and even then it is not every weekend. They are more so offered based on availability from game developers.

AWWWW no games this weekend. I have to tell you that I love checking out the games on the weekend it's a real treat. Even if I decide they aren't for me it's still fun to see what's out there.
I'm still playing that wonderful game, "7 Wonders" daily as it calms me down and requires some thought.
Thank you GAOTD for the great games you have presented. I'd love to see some more games on the weekend again. Hint Hint!

We've had a wonderful run of free games stretching back to early summer last year, apart from the odd weekend there hasn't been an extended break from free games at the weekend for over 9 months. There's definitely one game in the listings at the moment (not a wheemplay game), hopefully with more to follow. Recently we've had as many as six in the lists at one time which has been unusual over the past few years since the recession hit. With the advent of all those bundled indie games and the demise of some of the big game houses it seems it's getting even harder to find developers willing to part with their games.
It's for that reason why I think it's really important that the community rally around the game giveaway project and try to post constructive comments about the games we are given. I still believe that the better the quality othe feed back developers get from us the more likely developers are going to be willing to contribute more games. When you consider on average there are anything between 4 to 16 thousand downloads for for each game given away, if we got a good response from the community developers would see the giveaway project as a worthwhile project to contribute to because they would also be gaining valuable feedback about their games from our constructive comments. In effect we become beta testers for their games, but not like the usual arcade testers of which there are usually maybe 20 or so, we are talking hundreds or more At the moment only 0.1% (on average) of those downloading actually bother to comment on the games they are getting and of those only 10% are constructive so you are talking only 0.01% of those downloading giving useful feedback.
The game gveaway was never meant to remain weekends only. They moved it to weekends only as a temporary measure. It's just unfortunate that this was about the time the recession really hit. Back then (only three years ago) the average cost of an arcade game was nearly $20, wheras now you can get most arcade games for around $6 and in the regular sales even cheaper. The triple 'A' games have become even cheaper if you are willing to wait a few months after their release. I've seen games less than a month old receive cuts of 50% via Steam and Gamestop. Hopefully things will return to what we were used to pre recession, then maybe we will see a return to the game giveaway on a daily basis
fingers crossed. ;)

I think the developers need to return to the days of Doom and the original Duke Nukem where they made a short version of the game available for free and then sold hundreds of thousands of copies of the full game. In fact, I'd go on to suggest that the billions in revenue that games generate today have their basis in freeware. Doom was, and still is, a great FPS but it, and the Castle Wolfenstein releases, tapped into the 90's shareware culture of "try it before you buy it". Now we seem to get a bunch of "don't try it after you buy it" because the games are unplayable due to fatally flawed concepts or incompetent programming.
I'm not a normal game buyer - I haven't paid full price since I bought Battlespire. I have zero interest in buying more unplayable games. If you follow the above link and read the review, which I think is far too favorable, you'll find that all of the problems could have been identified and potentially fixed if Bethesda had a viable feedback system.
Which brings me to reason for the post - the feedback for the Game Giveaway is useless. The games are finished, they've been released for a number of years, what flaws they have should be well known to the publisher. But, the feedback system could be extremely valuable on "in progress" games. The publisher has available to them via the Game Giveaway a diverse group of unpaid, and dare I say "rabid", game players/testers. Feedback on a "gamelet" could lead to the next Game-of-the-Year and it seems to me that the Game Giveaway could fill that niche. The Game Giveaway appears to be a greatly underutilized resource that some of the publishers desperately need.

As noted above, game giveaway's don't occur every weekend. Whiterabbit who moderates and reviews games noted in a post yesterday that he had not yet seen anything for this weekend. We have had a great run lately with games every Saturday and Sunday for several weeks up until today. Hopefully there will be some more soon.

If I download a game I strive very hard to come back and comment. I think part of the problem is I see my thoughts were already spoken about in a previous comment so I wonder if saying the same this is just being redundant, and I don't want to waste the moderator's time.
Even if some of the games are not my cup of tea, I do try them and have found a lot of them fun!
That said, Steam is having an excellent summer sale right now!! As always, thank you to the team here, you are great! I do hope there will be more developers who come and post under their games, that always helps us to know they are really reading what we are saying.
If a game is already published, they might even be inspired to provide an update, or even work bugs out in a new game!!
Thanks again all!
