What better than a good survival horror game for Halloween? This is a first person horror fest with a great creepy atmosphere and even creepier sounds to woo you into the deepest dead of the night!
I hope to have a few more frighteners to post for Halloween over the weekend and on into Monday! I shouldn’t need to add - these aren’t suitable for younger children or those of a nervous disposition!
It’s best played late on at night, with the lights out, and sound turned up; guaranteed to give you a jolly good few frights if you don’t watch the video first! It may not scare you witless, but it comes close! If you’ve played Amnesia: The Dark Descent or Penumbra, it has about the same level of fright built in, i.e. it’s a great scare from time to time!
You’ve a dark path to explore then a dark house to light candles to find your way around. Nasty imps have taken over your house, and you need to move carefully around, lighting candles to scare them all away. Try to avoid falling off the bridge or touching imps otherwise it’s instant game over. It would be great if the candles burnt out or blew out in the wind every now and then but even so, it’s a fun and haunting game to play. If you are lucky you might lure an imp or two into the light, before they get you! Because get you, they are are out to do! Can you get the generator sorted and scare the imps away for good? Then what do you do?
It sure has a good creep factor, and it has beautiful graphics and a great spooky soundtrack. The lighting effects are brilliant, and the house has every appearance of a haunted house, having many rooms and a cellar to explore. The 3D first person view works very well!
Controls are 'Arrow' keys or 'W,A,S,D' keys - Movement, 'Spacebar' - Jump, Left mouse button - Interact, Middle and Right mouse buttons - Other actions, 'Esc' key return to menu.
It plays in XP, Vista or Win 7 windowed or full screen and you can set the desired resolution and detail and configure keys/controls. It works via the keyboard or using a gamepad/joystick.
Candles is a very creepy scare fest that uses darkness and spooky sounds to very great effect to keep you (and your nerves!) very constantly on edge. Candles is very eerie and ghostly and can certainly give you a jolly good haunting! Spook your way well into the night! Happy Halloween!
