Copmom....wish I had seen your "upside down turkey" hint before I left for Delaware....the turkey (which was free BTW) was good but the breast seemed more dry than usual. I think it was because my friends oven is different than mine and half way through I had to raise the temp then had to raise it even more near the end. But we enjoyed it anyway. It had good flavor. Oh and speaking of Food Lion, we don't have them up here but I went to the one in DE and that is one cool store! Great prices and lots of choices.....loved it! Wish we had one.

@copmom I'm also on the east up in Jersey. I work at ACME Markets (www.acmemarkets.com) which is owned by the Supervalu corporation (http://www.supervalu.com) which owns many grocery stores but I don't think Food Lion. Either way I suppose many stores have similar pricing these days.

False, though we used to start around this time when the kids were younger. We usually leave it till the first weekend in December now. False. They were 39 cents a pound here too.. only got a 15 lb. one. Didn't really want the whole bird, just a breast, but at 39 cents got the whole thing! Then we'll have bacon, lettuce, tomato, turkey club sandwiches on Friday. Will make turkey pot pie with some left overs. Gotta cook up the 'innards' today to put in with the stuffing (liver, giblets), and have the stuffing ready to shove in the bird in the morning.
Tip for y'all: It's not as pretty, but always bake turkey with the breast side down so the juices from the dark meat (thighs and legs) moisten the breast so the white meat isn't too dry!
