Thanks -- the latest update of Firefox took away the easy cleaning of downloads/history and cache. Now you have to use the options and often the "Advanced" tabs to clean things. That's not nice. I used to do it myself weekly. Now I let CCleaner do it for me along with other routine cleaning.

The article was very interesting. The notes about the registry not being cleaned as much as expected made me think that they were missing one tool - Revo-Uninstaller! CCleaner is not designed to clean some things from the registry.

It will get some keys leftover. I was surprised that it found some more Roxio keys. I had already removed at least 2K of them when I removed my Roxio stuff last spring.

It is clear that despite Windows doing better at garbage collection, other products can help out as well.

That provided the answer I needed. CCleaner is better than Program Updates (formerly known as Add/Remove) because it's faster. It's not as good as Revo-Uninstaller because it just runs the "provided" uninstall procedure.

Your comparison puts Revo top of the list for uninstallers at this time.

After hearing so much about this product and a friend of mine's "computer hardware guru" putting it on her daughter's PC (after cleaning out viruses), I decided to give it a try.

So far, I'm very happy with it. It allowed me to "fix" hundreds of old uninstall setups that became "errors" after I MOVED a bunch of games rather than uninstall/re-install them.

I did notice on error and had a chuckle over it. It claimed that "Piriform" is "obsolete software" and that's who makes Ccleaner! I tagged it to exclude it.

However, I have one question. I see it has an "uninstall" tab. How does CCleaner's uninstall compare to Revo-Uninstall? Does it simply run the product's uninstall procedure or does it go beyond as Revo does and clear out extra files/registry items?

An answer is really appreciated. Worse case scenario is keep Revo around, best case is this handles even more stuff than I thought!

Dragonlair, Ccleaner is a file cleaner that also uninstalles programmes.
I wouldn't say it is a replacement for an uninstaller like Revo.

Uninstalling programs

CCleaner can uninstall programs just like the Add/Remove Programs part of Windows' Control Panel.
CCleaner is better, though, because once you've installed a lot of programs, the Add/Remove Programs applet takes a long time to start. CCleaner lets you see a list of all your programs right away.
