Microsoft has confirmed that the .NET update released on Patch Tuesday may break printing. "Microsoft says this known issue affects only apps that use the Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) UI framework..." Additionally, "After installing the August 2026 .NET Framework cumulative update, some WPF applications may fail with a System.IO.FileFormatException when printing or generating PDF/XPS content that uses certain fonts, including Calibri," Microsoft gives a temporary fix by editing "the application config file". It's up to you to figure out what that file name is & where it's found.

The only issue I've had was with a 32-bit Win10 Long Term Service Build Virtualbox VM, that I had to restore from backup and install the update downloaded from the catalog. Microsoft is looking into reports that several games won't run after the update. Embark Studios [The Finals] says in its case the problem seems to be the Windows file inpoutx64.sys, publishing steps to remove it.
