bleepingcomputer[.]com/news/microsoft/microsoft-windows-11-might-fail-to-start-after-installing-kb5058405/

Microsoft has acknowledged another problem that also mainly effects PCs/laptops in corp IT environments, though they hint that it has effected at least some devices that are not in that setting. And so far there is no cure...

We are investigating reports of the May 13, 2025 Windows security update (KB5058405) failing to install on some Windows 11, version 22H2 and 23H2 devices. Affected devices might encounter the following recovery error:

Your PC/Device needs to be repaired
The operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors.
File: ACPI.sys
Error code: 0xc0000098

This issue has been observed on a small number of physical devices, but primarily on devices running in virtual environments...

Microsoft doesn't have a fix yet for the Win10 BitLocker issue, but they have more info. They say it only effects: "Intel Trusted Execution Technology (TXT) enabled on 10th generation or later Intel vPro processors", which means it's pretty much a problem only for corporate users, since none of us are likely running Intel vPro CPUs.

bleepingcomputer[.]com/news/microsoft/windows-10-kb5058379-update-fixes-sgrmbroker-errors-in-event-viewer/

There are problems with some devices running Win10 that have BitLocker enabled... the device may require the BitLocker key with the Bitlocker recovery screen, or may not start at all. This article has a few tips from Microsoft that might help:

bleepingcomputer[.]com/news/microsoft/windows-10-kb5058379-update-triggering-bitlocker-recovery-after-install/

I've only encountered a couple of minor problems so far... one copy of Win10 installed a .NET update but wouldn't install the Win10 update until I restarted, whereas normally both would install before requiring a restart. And the update failed on a copy of Win11, but worked on the 2nd try. That one was probably my fault as I had removed some Hyper-V features to stop VBS, but did not restart before installing the update.

... May 2025 Patch Tuesday, which includes security updates for 72 flaws, including five actively exploited and two publicly disclosed zero-day vulnerabilities.

This Patch Tuesday also fixes six "Critical" vulnerabilities, five being remote code execution vulnerabilities and another an information disclosure bug.

The number of bugs in each vulnerability category is listed below:

    17 Elevation of Privilege Vulnerabilities
2 Security Feature Bypass Vulnerabilities
28 Remote Code Execution Vulnerabilities
15 Information Disclosure Vulnerabilities
7 Denial of Service Vulnerabilities
2 Spoofing Vulnerabilities
