In general I like it but:
* It effectively locks up the computer while "processing, please wait", no keyboard import possible and mouse sluggish. Even though computer not usable the processing message is not displayed on top.
* It would be nice if there was a distributable by icon in root option.

Oops, also don't like explorer icon change as it only does the one folder. Working from the app itself works fine just click "apply selected icon for all subfolders".

Roman, As far as I know there is no way in Explorer to select a whole tree (explorer does this by context, RENAME=SINGLE, COPY=WHOLE TREE).

I installed it and filled out the form to get a registration key but it hasn't arrived. Is there someone we can email if it doesn't come. There is no articline email in my spam folder (or any other address for the code).

Like someone said below, it takes an hour and then an email asks you to confirm your subscription to their newsletter. After confirming that subscription, they email you the key a couple of minutes later. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time but in this case I actually am interested in learning more about this product and any others! Thanks for today's giveaway and for making it a lifetime license.

I've been using this little gem of a tool once in a blue moon over the years since I got here some time back. Upgraded with no problem and it kept the custom icons I'd created before.

I wanted to change the folder name in customs so I followed instructions to: Action > Customize Mark Folder menu.
It does not pull up the menu as shown in on-line help. It just vertically lists some of the main folder names on far left and nothing else....something is major wrong because it can't complete loading the action. All I want to do is create my own names for my own icon folders. Please help...thank you in advance!

... you should be able to perform those actions, and I began by saying the following:
"You can click on the ">" in the listing tree to expand those entries with SubItems, or right-click on any item to perform actions (add subitems, separators, move up & down in list (sort), etc.).
After closing/saving, those changes you make should then appear in your revised/customized list of available actions when you right-click on a folder and then (in the context menu that appears) choose Mark Folder or Change Folder Icon."
However when I tried for myself it seems (like you) all I can do to "customize" is move the existing entries up and down in the list. As you noted, I can't add anything new to that list nor modify them.
Perhaps there's a setting preventing it; or maybe it's misleadingly limited to the "Pro" version?

spyglass, this is hard question to answer. It depends on your usual activities (i.e. what you need to sort).
I, personally, use Everyday set mostly (https://foldermarker.com/en/everyday-vista-folder-icons/). It has Windows10-style reincarnation https://foldermarker.com/en/everyday10-folder-icons/.

It looks like they finally fixed the bug which does not properly reflect the new color change after initial set color.
The first set color worked fine always but the subsequent change to the new one did not always work on the past version.
I think the same developer has Filemarker.net app which changes color on files rather than folder. This program has a similar bug that tends to get stuck in previous color but hitting F5 reload key fixes the issue. It looks like the app has not been updated for several years.
I have been using a free app called Folder Painter without problem but this one works only on folders, not files.

Edit: I did some further test and found out some major shortcoming on this software.
I set custom color on the folders in my USB flash drive and tried to read on another computer in which free version of this software was installed. It could not recognize the custom color of the folder.
Folder Painter app that I am currently using had no problem with this.

I had earlier 4.2 version and found this one registered already. I find it fast and easy to use. Good as Folder Marker is, Its too expensive to buy for the occasional user, especially since the extra Icons are not included in the price. Like M Aronson, I too have tons of folders and subfolders. To make them all unique I would need to spend over $250 on the Home version and ALL the Icon sets. I would pay no more than $50 for the lot, and expect a much better licence deal.

I used an earlier version for a long time. The program is great, very helpful, especially for people like me with a zillion folders on my desktop (even when they are separated by Desktop "Fences.")
I should add that the registration procedure is a bit clunky.
