I'd rather just not put secret data onto a computer... encrypted vaults/folders or whatever you call them are places of interest... for law enforcement, state actors as well as other criminals... if you use them you have something to hide and if it's worth hiding its worth coercion or even torture to discover what it is... no thanks!

How would this be different from zipping up the directory after encrypting the file (see https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/learning-center/how-to-encrypt-file)?

Brian Wilson, I think most people use something like WinRAR or 7-Zip to compress & encrypt a file or folder. You can also use the open source VeraCrypt to encrypt a VHD [Virtual Hard Disk], which is a single file that when mounted works just like a regular hard disk partition. Software that lets you use an encrypted VHD to store files often calls it a locker. What makes Folder Lock different is all the added value features they list on the product page, e.g., syncing and cloud storage.

What happens to the program and your files after the six month trial is over?

tony m, If you check out the link to their website, they have a free version that I am guessing this defaults to after the license period. They have a chart showing the differences side by side. Hopefully the publisher will respond to verify this.

tony m, one assumes it reverts to free edition.... see table on page https://www.newsoftwares.net/folderlock/ to compare free and pro edition. The giveaway is for 6 months of the Pro edition... even though this page does not say it... otherwise it would just be the always free edition with no 6 month limitation.

tony m, This is an incredibly important question, and I can't see that anyone has ventured to answer it.

tony m, They seem to be still encrypted
The question is how about accesing them and what happens with excrypted files in case of or uinstalling it, because of trial is over and what possibilities gives us the time after trial is over

Sadly, this seems surprisingly relevant to our times.
