I finally received the codes after the fourth attempt (13 hours). This is an outstanding program. I have been using others to perform the stacking, then post process with Photoshop CS6. This one does it all! I am resenting a program on focus stacking at our local camera club next month and will recommend it to the other members.
Cons: Too long to get the codes. The video output is very strange and not usable, this may change with more practice. Received email in German, which I cannot understand.

I think part of the problem (at least in my case) is their site recognizes the cookie from people who have registered before. It then gives a message that makes it seem it knows who you are (and displays your email address). The webpage thanks you for registering & says it will send the confirmation (see the below message). They have not sent the registration information to me (now Sunday) and the email address is the one I have always used with them.
I think the mistake is on Franzis, and wonder why GOTD didn't step in when the problem became widespread.

Thank you very much for your registration

BobbyA, To update: Good news, I went back to the registration webpage and entered my password where it seems to indicate you can change you password: "Optional:enter a new secure password and submit your data." It had me confirm the information I had given them last time, and finally sent the confirmation email.

I entered the user ID and registration code into the registration box, and it installed Focus. It did come back and say it could not find a compatible PS or LR (I have PS CS5 64 bit and LR 5.3). Perhaps this was due to PS being open (doesn't explain LR) perhaps it was due to Focus being installed on drive D: and PS i& LR being installed on SSD drive C:, or perhaps Focus simply doesn't install as a plugin correctly.

The bad news, when Focus runs it never gets past it's splash screen, and has to be killed. Win 8 ver 6.2 laptop w/ 16 GB ram, SSD & HD.

BobbyA, I rebooted the machine and tried Focus again. I decided to use task manager to watch what it was doing while the splash screen hangs (the one with a tiny: "initializing system" in the corner). The program does eventually get past the splash screen, it takes 1 min 45 secs. It uses up to 500MB of RAM while initializing. This is a i7 system with 16GB of ram. Frankly I'm surprised my AV suite doesn't flag it for suspicious behavior. Unless support can explain and fix this, life is too short for this program.

UPDATE, IMPORTANT!
Hi, for those of you who kept Giveaway Installation of Focus Projects just in case.. (I simply took it out of the bin remembering that it might work AFTER Giveaway date, thanks Ootje for pointing it out, shame that message was not confirmed by the Team, or Developer himself on the day of Giveaway!) ---- After making changes to that FRANZIS Account using gmail to start with, changing password and filling EVERY LINE of that Registration Form, not just '*'s fields, and accepting cookies on page, again just in case, CONFIRMING everything in that Form - next Page arrives, where under this Software you'll find in blue 'Request the Key', or Code, and next getting a message of thankyou (in German, so translate it into English, or what ever is your language) and ---- finally(!!) CHECK your post. Comes promptly and the whole Procedure with Installation kicks off.

Like others I truly and simply wanted to look at this Software yesterday and post feedback about how I find it working. What wasted opportunity for Developer, eh!!?
But..when it's not possible and not EVERYONE has the same chance - the Software gets supporting role on stage..

Something worth remembering as a good practice! When you create Account in a manner I described above (or similar Forms) - Always, always take a Snapshots of everything you filled in there and make a separate note of a password you're using with that Account! I don't have to tell you why (read my comments below..) and keep it for Reference somewhere safe and handy.

Hope all of it helps and have a better Sunday!:)

For you who are waiting for the registration e-mail.

You probably got a red error code “CLB-002” which means that you not logged in.

In this case the system will NEVER send an e-mail to you, to wait for it is waste of time.

You must log in successfully first, before you you start the setup.exe and click on the "Internet" button.

I wrote a detailed instruction how you can repeat the registrering process.

I posted that message 8 hours ago, as I can see nobody read it and nobody cares.

Please read it, follow it, log in if you want to get the registrering code.

It's not much time left, please hurry.

This is the 3rd Franzis software giveaway in the last several weeks for which the email with the license never arrived. I followed the instructions carefully multiple times for each item to no avail. Yes, I checked the spam folder every time.

Sorry, Franzis, 3 strikes and you're out!

With only a couple hours left for this Giveaway, I almost passed it up, due to registration emails taking so long. I did go through the process, received within a few minutes (gmail; attached itself to the first auto-reply email from Franzis.); finished installation; got a warning my photoshop is too old; ran it anyway and it works fine. Image can also be sent to another external program (my Adobe CS2).
Thanks GOTD, for this powerful program.

Like others, I too have been awaiting an email with registration information. The only reason I mention this is to let GOTD and the software developers that they are working with know that is not just 1 or 2 people having problems with registration but a significant number.

This software looks very interesting to me and I would very much like to be able to try it. It is 04:45 in the morning in Germany and I doubt that the developer will send out my registration information before I have to go to bed and miss out on today's giveaway.

Downloaded program, clicked 'internet' link; logged in to their site (I am a member there already, and use several of their products, which I like a lot); and got the message that registration info was being sent to me, but have not received any such email, just an email ad from them for another product. Tried downloading again, and logging in again, and once again received the message that an email with the registration data was being sent. Again, have still not received it, and only 20 minutes left in Giveaway time. Very disappointed!

For those haven't received an e-mail, what service are you using (g-mail, hotmail)? It may help track down what the issue is and if it's involving hotmail it may save other user's time and effort fighting with this. I'll start:

G-mail (worked)
Hotmail (did not work)

Reply   |   Comment by Melika  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Melika,

You made a great point. 'Hotmail' did not work for me. I have wasted hours checking my inbox and spam folder and waiting for the code to come via email, despite requesting it many times. Though I do have a G-Mail service, I have wasted enough time on this already. I'll just give up on this offer. Instead of spending the bit of precious time to try out and learn about the product, we just wasted it all waiting for a code that never arrives.

I've have had no problems receiving emails from past Franzis offers to my Hotmail address. The registration process for Franzis giveaways is convoluted enough as is; we didn't need even more limitations due to the kind of email service we possess.

Reply   |   Comment by TimeLoser  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Melika,

Furthermore, while I was composing my previous note to you, I had no problem receiving an ad for another of Franzis products directly into my inbox of my Hotmail service. Yet, still no trace of the email I need to register today's giveaway 'Focus Projects Pro'.

I have no idea what is going on today with this registration, but maybe the following will help someone.

I logged into my account on their page (http://www.franzis.de/). There is "sign in" and just below that "my account". When I clicked "sign in" the page reloaded in German. If this happens to you, click the "My Account" which should take you to your main account page. If not, you'll be taken to a sign in page. Just sign in and press whatever looks like the OK button (should be on the left and doesn't have "newsletter" in the description).

Once in your account, make sure EVERY single thing is filled in. Yes, they ask for too much, but there is no way for them to check what you fill in, just make sure you fill in something. This includes the company name and what I presume is the tax ID number for said company ("USt-IdNrn.") Just fill it in even if you don't have a company. Then click the button on the left labeled "Einstellung Speichern" to save. Once you do that you should be taken to your main account page that has your programs listed. Click the "Registrierungscode erneut anfordern " text link to have the registration code sent again.

I tried this with two different e-mail addresses (hotmail / gmail). The only one that worked was the g-mail, but I needed to have all of the information in the account filled out.

I downloaded, installed, and registered the product. But there is a folder that came with it that has a bunch of little blocks in it that say Adobe Photoshop plug ins. But there is nothing anywhere that tells you what they are for or how to use them. So I don't know what to do with them.

Reply   |   Comment by Jesse Brown  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

Jesse Brown,

They are Photoshop plug-ins.

If you have Photoshop then they will istall automatically by the setup program. If you don't have leave them alone.

They are very useful, you can start Focus Pro with the pictures you are working with in Photoshop.

Reply   |   Comment by Thomas  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Jesse Brown, last time one of their offers had PS tie in. Install seemed to do it automatically. Or atleast I had already been set for that because when opened PS this was in list of outside programs as plug ins. Should be in PS. Otherwise check at their site. There's easy info on it.

Finally got my Id and registration key.

It took 13 hours, but it was my fault that I didn't understand how this registration process really works.

The secret is that you must have an account and must log in before you start the setup file.

Please follow these steps:

1. Inlogging

Go to
https://www.franzis.de/

2. click on Mein konto.

Now you can choose:

- you have an account
(Ich bin bereits Stammkunde - green colour)

or

- you are a new custumer
(Ich bin Neukunde - blue colour)

3. if you are a new custumer, click on the link "Ich bin Neukunde" and fill the form and click "Einstellung speichern" to submit it.
you are now logged in, you'll get messages there

4. if you have an account, fill the form with your e-mail address and password and click "Anmelden" to submit it.
you are now logged in, you'll get messages there

5. Now you can start the program registrering process.

Double click on the setup.exe and followv the 4 steps.

First click on the button Internet and follow the instructions.

You'll get the registering code within 5 minutes.

-------------

If you got the red error code “CLB-002” then you couldn't log in.

Hi, I'm using hotmail too. My previous codes from FRANZIS were coming into hotmail. I have account on their Site with hotmail address and password that worked perfectly and allowed me to login on their page, also TODAY!. As recently as yesterday I received a promo letter from FRANZIS (Sharpen Projects to be precise) - into my hotmail, no less. I'm therefore their CUSTOMER with hotmail add. already!!? TODAY, no matter how many times I try and repeat this Registration procedure - NOTHING!! Perhaps they pull 'lucky GOTD winners' today from a hat?? No EXPLANATION why it works only for some and not everyone. Anyway, back to England:Russia!:)

for those waiting for the email, maybe this can help - it always works with my data:
if I don't receive the mail containing my serial(s) after filling in the registration form, I log into my account and check my data (the place where all my programs are listed). The new ones are almost always added in first place (just sometimes at the end), so searching/finding is not the problem. Under every program you find "resend registration" - clicking this, I get my data in a jiffy.
This may work when waiting for the mail with the serials ... if you are waiting for your first mail (to comfirm and activate your account) - sorry - I have no idea yet
Hope this helps and works with your account too! Heads up ;)

Question:

No problems with installation and registration but did receive a message that it didn't find a compatible version of Lightroom, Photoshop, etc. (I am currently running an older version of Photoshop but plan to upgrade in the next month or so.)

Georgia Jones, When I opened the download to install it on my mac, I put the focus project icon into my app folder. There was also a regular file folder that came with it that has a bunch of different adobe photoshop icons in it. I was at a total loss what the funny looking little things were good for.

Jesse Brown, I guess since it didn't recognize my old (ver 4) Photoshop, it didn't give me those files - just the readme and setup. I guess I am out of luck when it comes to linking with Photoshop. Oh, well. At least it was free.

Georgia Jones, I am about to give up. I can't afford to buy photo shop. All I have been trying to do is find a easy way to re-size some photos that I have so I can use them as a cover on my facebook page. There is no easy way. It seems like when techs on the internet explain how to do something, they assume that you are a tech also, and that you understand everything they are telling you to do.

After 3+ hours it still hasn't arrived. Yes, I checked the junk mail box just in case. I also tried to go through the registration process a second time.

I was previously registered with Franzis -- received registration info for this product 10 minutes after I filled out the online form. Installed with no problem, but there were two confusing things.

(1) The readme text file in the zip file included "installed, input the Registration Code you received in the email (you already used it in the previous step of installation) into the Activation field in the program window." I couldn't find the Activation field -- but the software seems to work just fine anyway.
(2) Clicking on Help in the software produced a blank page (apparently a web page).

I did a quick test with the software using a previous focus stack of jpgs and Canon Raw images. Results looked good. I usually use Zerene Stacker software, which works with jpg and tiff. It's nice that the Franzis software works with many types of Raw files.

The Franzis software can work with Photoshop Elements 11/12. I have Photoshop Elements 14 -- in a quick test I couldn't get the Franzis software to work with that version, but maybe I did something wrong.

Dan, in Photoshop it installs as an "Export" plug-in, rather than a "Filter" one, so I'd look to see if there is an Export entry in the "File->" menu.
Of course it's a lot less use that way...

JohnL, thanks for the info, I didn't know about Export. Export is grayed out (unavailable) so either the Franzis software doesn't work in Elements 14 or I'm doing something wrong. In the Franzis software, I tried entering the "link" for Elements Photo Editor -- didn't work. Then I tried the "link" for Elements itself -- didn't work. Based on your "lot less use" comment, I'm not sure I'd want to use the Franzis software with Elements, especially since the Raw features of the Franzis software look good at first glance.

Dan, if it has Raw support )I wasn't sure if it did or didn't and have been watching the Football) then it's probably worth updating it to the latest version...
Download this:
http://transfer.franzis.de/projects/RawImageDllprojects_Win64.zip
and replace C:\Program Files\Franzis\HDR projects 3\FreeImage.dll with it (after unzipping), or for the 32-bit version use:
http://transfer.franzis.de/projects/RawImageDll_projects_Win32.zip
If you’re on a Mac I don’t know the link I’m afraid, but I guess that (i) it uses the same library and (ii) an updated version is out there somewhere.
The Export plugin is IMHO not really worth much.

JohnL, oops, cut and pasted my details on doing this with HDR Projects a little too literally - adjust the path to suit! Sorry...

Absolutely no problem registering/installing.

Best GOTD ever (for me at least).

Thanks Franzis & GOTD team!

A NOTE TO WHINERS AND COMPLAINERS

I'm not the brightest bulb in the pack, but in all the programs I've installed from GOTD, I can count on one hand how many times I've had a problem with install and registration - and still have two or three fingers left over.

It might help if you follow directions. And check your spam/junk folder too.

Also, It would be very nice if there was less complaining and more commentary on actual user experience with these giveaway programs.

If you must complain, complain to your dog. Amazingly, they'll still love you in spite of your miserable behavior.

I suggest giving up being serious. Laughter is a better way to go. Especially when you laugh at yourself for being so serious.

stan,
If you could enlighten me as to the wording of the comment of a happy and smiley nature suitable for a long wait for a non-arriving registration code please give an example.
Regarding evaluation of the program, you forgot to do yours. :D

Tata,

It's a BIG topic that few are ready to hear. I'll share what I know anyway ant be on my way.

Get happy FIRST. Maintain happy CONSISTENTLY for a week or three and your world will change.

Or keep on complaining and see where it gets you.

I did not leave comment because after finding so little useful information on GOTD site, I visited the program site and determined I have no use for it.

Maybe I should give it a thumbs down???

Have fun. I'm out of here.

stan, It is difficult to evaluate a program when you can't even finish installing it without the registration information. Informing the developers that there is an issue with their registration IS providing constructive feedback.

I don't find things that waste my time and metered bandwidth to be amusing at all, but I understand what you are saying. Fortunately most adults don't require constant entertainment and screaming declarations of joy and happiness, but I will take you non-amusing, non-entertaining, non-constructive complaining message under advisement and will attempt to construct an amusing two part sketch into my next post.

stan,

After reading your comment, especially the bit about the dog, I'd say you are at least 100W. Human nature is something that even the best developer can't change, we're hard-wired to complain and moan. Have a good weekend mate.

stan, the only GOTD programs I've ever had trouble getting install codes with have been the ones I've tried from this particular publisher. The publishers *appear* to have problems with sending people the codes quickly. In my case, I was lucky to get my code at all. It took over an hour and I was waiting until the last minute before leaving my house for an overnight trip. Since most of these giveaways have a time limit on them, getting the codes after I'd left home would be of no use whatsoever to me.

stan, I am not a dolt, nor am I a whiner. I followed their instructions to the letter, and no registration key was sent to my email. I later received info from someone that it would work with gmail. I tried and succeeded. I use gmail as my junk mail account, and rarely. If this information had been in the instructions, I'd have gladly followed the advice. One cannot possibly know weather a web link is compatible with any particular email.

No email after 4 hours from filling out the online registration. Used different emails (hotmail, gmail, etc.) without any email. Guess this is not going to work..

George, I used a non gmail/hotmail email....I actually got rid of those accounts, because any mail those two deem commercial, either gets filtered into junk or never arrives period. (this is the case for me anyway....)

Focus Projects seems like an interesting approach but I can't help but wonder how useful it is, under what circumstances, & with what equipment. I'd guess this would take a bit of playing with to see when, if, & how it might help.

What they're talking about with Focus Projects is depth of field -- a smaller lens opening give more, while a larger opening gives less, something like the bokeh effect.

If you want good depth of field, the challenge is having enough light to use a smaller lens opening. You compensate by having the shutter stay open longer, letting in more light, but at some point [usually <1/60 sec. I think] you have to use a tripod or set the camera on something to make sure the camera doesn't move.

If you use a larger lens opening you might be able to hand hold the camera, but if you're taking more than one photo to merge in Focus Projects, I'd think you'd want to fix the camera's position also, so that they line up perfectly. But if you're using something like a tripod, why not just use a smaller lens opening & avoid the extra work in software?

OK, so some [many] cameras don't let you set the lens opening. Cheaper cameras & lenses only have smaller lens openings, so likely not a problem. Moving up the ladder a bit you might have wider lens openings possible, but perhaps can't set them manually. In that case, depending on the lighting, the idea behind Focus Projects might in theory work well, but how do you set the focus?

AFAIK the most common method is to press the shutter half way, & the camera will show you what it auto-focuses on -- if the object or person you want in focus isn't the point of focus, you release the shutter, point the camera at something else close by, & try again -- if that succeeds, without releasing the shutter you point the camera back where you originally had it & take the picture. If that's the way you have to do it to take multiple photos with different focus points, it's almost guaranteed the photos won't line up perfectly. Software can help compensate for that, but how sharp will that part of the photo be?

That said, & this may be getting out in the weeds a bit [Sorry], odd things can sometimes start to happen with a camera's image sensor with longer shutter speeds, so I wonder if Focus Projects *might* be a way around that for certain shots?

mike, the issue is when you stop down more and more to get extra depth of field diffraction effects soften the image, so it's case of diminishing returns. With a Macro (for close-up shots of small things) lens even stopped down as far as you can go the depth-of-field usually isn't enough to get a whole subject in focus at the working distance of the lens.

I do Macro photography and know two popular software for focus stacking which are very costly this one seems reasonable as also available on discounted priced other than GOTD.

Sharing my experience and hope it will help others too.

Got installation setup download link via e-mail within 5 minutes.
Clicked the link and on the website filled the information after that got confirmation e-mail within 5 minutes.
Unzipped the file there were two files one Read me and the setup.exe file.
In the read me file there is a detail how to install and register.
I am copying some text from the Read me file:

Please note that the software you download and install
during the Giveaway period comes with the following important limitations:
1) No free technical support
2) No free upgrades to future versions
3) Strictly non-commercial usage

When clicked on setup.exe file a window opened with the following information
Online registration:
FOCUS Projects professional
giveawayoftheday.com

REGISTRATION IN 4 STEPS

1. Please click the button (Internet)
2. Fill in the registration form. We will send your personal user id
and the registration code to your email address.

3. Enter your personal user id and the registration code here.
Product-Code (this code will be present here during installation).
Personal user id: ( we will get it by e-mail).
Registration code: ( we will get it too by e-mail).

4. Please confirm with OK/Register the setup process will start
(Later- OK) here click on OK.

Having done the registration process I checked the program and in the Settings section I found:
External Programs
External image processing
Photoshop CC/CS6
Lightroom 5/4
Photoshop Elements 11/12

Means we can use above programs with this software.

Franzis has become my go to imaging software for the last year or so, and to be honest, I've been waiting for this program to be available as freeware to try it out.

As with other Franzis software, its a great product, doing exactly as promised. My thanks to Franzis and GOTD for the opportunity to get this software.
