While I tried and either I am stupid or the product is.
It seems that I have to install from the USB drive the setup program was written to to the USB drive the setup program was written to or the installation won't complete. However, as part of the installation the setup program wants to format the USB drive, the drive the setup program is on. How can this work? Either the formatting is going to fail -- the most likely scenario -- or the formatting will destroy the setup program.

The setup program could be copied back to the hard drive and then run and installed on the USB. The resulting windows bootable worked -- tried it on boot hanging lap top and it was awesome for a while, then after several reboots windows wrote to it and it was really slow. However I managed to repair the original computer drive -- not using this program but another -- and now the laptop works fine and I have a windows 10 bootable I can use to try to bring a couple of other lap tops back when I have time to kill.

Add me to the list of people who got this offer in **today's** GOTD email, along with the Vidmore Converter, the Android Assistant (both of which I'm going to give a try), and the Leawo DRM Converter (which I'm not).
Even in today's email the description says it was posted yesterday. Posted it may have been, but the notice never happened until today. A shame, since it seems to be a worthwhile app.

I am surprised what questions I see here. There is a shadow copy, back up your windows 10, copy disk all build in in windows.. why not use this? You can download any time new windows 10 on a stick or disk free from Microsoft and install with your key - if you know it and wrote it down.
I have installed numerous times from windows 98 to windows 10 the OS from fresh download from Microsoft with a purchased key - always works. In fact - I actively looks for top of the range laptops with NO OS -- and like to get them going. My current HP Elitebook was $85 !!

I requested my registration code 3 times, last one on an alternate email address (outlook). Each time I was told registration approved, watch email for code.
Never received it and I did check my spam folder as well.

BEWARE fellow users: This program makes it very clear that it will only work with the registered thumb drive that is plugged into an open USB3 port when the installed program is first run. The instructions even give estimates of what size thumb drive to expect. However, IF you happen to chose too small a thumb drive to fit the Flashboot option you've chosen, you will be out of luck unless you buy the program. The "Feedback" interface on Flashboot's web page that I used to request help gives no indication that the message was sent or resent, other than "HTTP 0". If I get an answer from the Flashboot people, I'll append it.

So I provided an email and was sent a link to download the zip file. Following instruction in Readme I installed the software, inserted a USB drive and clicked 'Register this software' then provided my email address again. Message reads "Thank you for your interest in Special Edition of FlashBoot Pro.

Help Please: For years I have seen this kind of program but they never say what amount of space on USB or DVD or to clone is needed. I know there are variables on amount of space GB or TB to backup but they could have a list of examples. I am told picture or movies or music cannot be compressed as much as documents. So if I have a TB of stuff ...fair amount of documents and lots of video/music/apps on have of my PC and the other half is jam packed with games , photos, and art programs ( only have 125GB left) what size do I need using/amount of USB, using DVD, or Clone space (depending on various programs. Is there some kind of math formula you use?

Installed on 256 GB PNY thumb drive and when I tick on the register this software a fatal error pops up that says "Flashboot error: Failed to query NT Object Manager directory \Device: More data is available." and nothing works.

FYI, Plop Boot Manager can be used to boot from a bootable USB drive, like FlashBoot USB drive, for computer BIOS that don't have the option to boot directly from a USB drive. For those computers, you first boot to Plop Boot Manager installed on a CD then have Plop to transfer the boot to the flash drive. In my experience, it works most of the time. In a few cases there is something further that the computer BIOS can't handle booting from the flash drive but it's worth the try.

i was told that the 16 gb drive is insufficient and so inserted the 32 gb usb drive.
they now say that my earlier drive was registered and it seems that there is no way to deregister that
and they ask me to buy the programme.

One obvious option is to download the program again (from here), go through the registration process again (using the USB drive that you really want to use this time!) and get that USB device 'registered' to the program.

It may be too late to re-register the software (if it checks in with a server to validate the date of the Giveaway); but if not (or you want to take a chance as your 16GB is too small to be of use anyway), then you could try using something like Revo Uninstaller (free; choose Advanced mode of scan) to hopefully remove all traces of the lock-in to the 16GB drive along with any remaining files, shortcuts, Registry entries.
Then, with any luck, you can re-install and re-register using your bigger USB drive.
Hope this helps, and let us know if that works out.

Before trying the total removal then re-installation of FlashBoot via Revo Uninstaller as previously suggested, possibly another idea to try first is inspired by what commenter "senzai6293" suggested (see comment #3 below):
FlashBoot apparently stores a file "license_key.xml" in its programs folder. You could see what happens if that file is "moved" (not copied) out of that folder to another location on your computer where FlashBoot won't look for it.
Then plug in your bigger USB drive and launch FlashBoot to see if it starts over to register your provided user license info and the USB drive. Hopefully it will re-create another "license_key.xml" file and function normally.
Again, if that works or you figure something else out, let us know. This kind of feedback would be useful for future reference if FlashBoot is offered here once again as similar confusion is sure to repeat itself.

They put a very nice statement into the help file:

If you are unable to get a functional USB drive by then, then sadly you will not be able to register the program afterwards. As the site generates a registration key by email that matches the USB-hardware you've plugged in.
Personally, i only registered with my USB drive which had still other data on it, the registration procedure does not require for the USB drive to be empty and it also will not format during the registration process. So i can use the program whenever i feel ready or when i stored the data from the USB drive somewhere else.

Qwertiy, you need to plug-in the USB drive before continuing the registration process, it will automatically detect applicable devices plugged-in and you can select any of them from the dropdown menu and continue the registration process and you need to repeat that process for any USB device you want to use as registered with the program.
So in short, every registration is "per device" and the license will only work for one of them.
The registration is put into a file called "license_key.xml" in the programs folder, if you store that for each device, you could theoretically have more than one device but only one device at the same time per matching license key.

Are you absolutely positive this addition to a usb HDD won't need to re-format the recipient HDD? I wish to put it on a 1TB external HDD with lots of important data already on it, and need assurance that it will not be lost.

beans, i'm 100% sure it will not erase or write any data on the selected drive, that step with drive selection is only for generation of the registration link. So you are completely safe there. It only writes the "license_key.xml" file onto the drive where the program has been installed to after successful registration. ;)

My experience (so far): FlashBoot needs your chosen USB storage device/drive to be plugged in for the registration to take place. Apparently this special edition is then locked to that particular device (unless you try the license file tricks senzai6293 mentions). Simply registering the USB device will not format it nor erase any existing files at that time.
FlashBoot then awaits your choice of several scenarios: a migration via that USB device, or create a stand-alone bootable USB device, etc.
One of the operations availble afterwards is mentioned in the FlashBoot User Guide (click on "Help" button):
"Save USB storage device to image file
If you have bootable USB thumbdrive with some useful content, and want to temporarily reuse it for other purpose, then you can save its contents to image file, and restore it later."
So, apparently, you can save any pre-existing stuff on your USB storage device (say, lots of old photos) to an image file, then use the device for your other FlashBoot business (a migration, or create bootable USB, etc. -- see that User Guide for detailed explanations of each scenario), then restore your device's earlier contents.

TK, yes, you should be able to move the license_key.xml file anywhere you want, in fact, it doesn't even matter where you installed the program to and registered it. You only need to make sure that the registration file resides besides the programs executable, so that the program can pick up the registration data. The program is also portable by the way, which means it doesn't matter where you put it after installation.

However, the important factor is that the faster the device you can use the better will be the experience.

I agree with Jay - I checked my Windows 10 folder size (c:/windows) and it was 32.4 GB. I checked my C: drive (which includes Windows and all installed programs) and it was just over 60 GB. My data is on a separate drive and so is not part of the 60 GB figure.
So, 64 GB should be plenty unless you have a crapload of extra stuff (lots of themes, etc.) installed.

Jay,, My OS on a C solid state drive data currently is 155 GB. This includes the files to allow the programs installed on another drive to work. If you just need the OS without those files they would easily fit on a stick, but if you find the need to really "clone" the drive, then a much larger USB stick would be required. (I'm running Win10 64bit)
