I would like to try some organization without losing the original one : would it be possible for this program to propose the creation of Symbolic Links (and/or shortcuts) instead of moving the original files themselves to the new arborescence ?

Sorry that I am late to the party, but could someone please explain if this tries to move files, or simply create a list in the chosen sort order. Does it create new folders and move the actual files? (That does NOT sound like a good idea!) If the files are left in place and one is just show a sorted list this could be useful to someone who cannot themselves use existing Windows tools (Powershell, CMD scripts, even bash scripts in a WSL Linux instance [which can see and operate on all the Windows files], etc.)
Main question: does it move the files when sorting, or create new folders and put files in them?

Can't Windows Explorer sort on these fields already?

I wish the portable version was include in this giveaway but I downloaded it from their website and, sadly, the key doesn't work there. For such a program that's used infrequently, I'd much prefer a portable version. Especially when it is a new, first version! Thanks, anyway.

Thanks for the easy to install program (license key provided in readme) and the lifetime license!
All 3 of my 5 TB drives are nearly full and this helped spot quite a few duplicate files which were over 1 GB and I saved a lot of space to buy time until I can afford a few external drives and clear things out.

I would have more confidence in the program if it didn't have errors in the description!

Wouldn't the files become degraded each time they are sorted through this system because they have to be recopied each time?

Fred, OK, I found my answer from AI:
If FileSorter is only reorganizing files and not compressing, converting, or modifying their contents, the files should remain as good as the originals.
