Color-code or image-code separate files on your Windows computer!

Are you tired of cluttered folders and disorganized files? FileSorter is here to revolutionize your file management experience. This powerful yet user-friendly Windows tool is designed to efficiently sort and organize your files in a matter of seconds. With its intuitive interface and efficient algorithms, you can quickly organize your files into a well-structured system. Simply drag and drop the folders you want to sort into the proram, and then select your desired sorting criteria. Whether you want to organize files by name, size, extension, creation date, or modification date, FileSorter can handle it all. You can even create custom sorting rules to cater to your specific needs.

In addition to basic sorting, FileSorter offers advanced features like file filtering and batch operations. You can easily find files that meet specific criteria, such as file size or name, and perform actions like sorting and copying on multiple files simultaneously. Besides, if you have a lot of files have the same file name but different creation/modification dates, the program can also sort them into different date folders.

For those with large collections of files, FileSorter can be a lifesaver. It can help you identify and organize duplicate files, as well as sort files based on their creation or modification dates. This is particularly useful for managing digital photos, documents, or music files. With FileSorter, you can say goodbye to cluttered folders and time-consuming manual organization. Experience the power of automated file management and regain control of your digital life.

I would like to try some organization without losing the original one : would it be possible for this program to propose the creation of Symbolic Links (and/or shortcuts) instead of moving the original files themselves to the new arborescence ?

Sorry that I am late to the party, but could someone please explain if this tries to move files, or simply create a list in the chosen sort order. Does it create new folders and move the actual files? (That does NOT sound like a good idea!) If the files are left in place and one is just show a sorted list this could be useful to someone who cannot themselves use existing Windows tools (Powershell, CMD scripts, even bash scripts in a WSL Linux instance [which can see and operate on all the Windows files], etc.)
Main question: does it move the files when sorting, or create new folders and put files in them?

It installs and runs in Vista as well as Windows 10 and the portable edition available from their website does not accept the giveaway license being input by it directly but does accept the giveaway license IF it's already been entered via the non-portable edition first. The license activation data is stored on the host computer and is read from the host computer by both the installable and "portable" edition meaning the portables license state is not implemented in a portable manner. Oddly this developer seems to think the %userappdata% root folder is the place to dump it's data files fsinfo.ini, fslan.ini and fssound.dll pseudo dll rather than creating the apps own subfolder so it's impossible for there the be name collisions if file names are re-used by other developers... maybe autoclose.net think they are the only developers in the world so no chance of name collisions!

Can't Windows Explorer sort on these fields already?

I wish the portable version was include in this giveaway but I downloaded it from their website and, sadly, the key doesn't work there. For such a program that's used infrequently, I'd much prefer a portable version. Especially when it is a new, first version! Thanks, anyway.

Thanks for the easy to install program (license key provided in readme) and the lifetime license!

All 3 of my 5 TB drives are nearly full and this helped spot quite a few duplicate files which were over 1 GB and I saved a lot of space to buy time until I can afford a few external drives and clear things out.

will the license work on the portable version?

Steven S, Nope, and we wish, more than 1 of us has tried it, and no go.

Steven S, no and yes... if you activate using the installed version the activation data is re-used by the portable edition but the portable edition will not let you use the key supplied to activate it on a new machine. I'm not sure what activating provides as no details of what the difference is between the freemium unregistered edition and the pro edition on their site that I could see. Add a bat file to copy the fssound.dll after activation from %UserAppData% folder to the portable and another to copy it back to %UserAppData% should transfer the Pro license to a new machine and then the portable edition will use that file.

I would have more confidence in the program if it didn't have errors in the description!

Wouldn't the files become degraded each time they are sorted through this system because they have to be recopied each time?

Fred, copying a file does not degrade a file, lossy re-encoding degrades file data but copying maintains data integrity. Though it does double up the space taken so is ill-advised if ones free space is short of supply.

Fred, OK, I found my answer from AI:

If FileSorter is only reorganizing files and not compressing, converting, or modifying their contents, the files should remain as good as the originals.
