I am not completely sure how this application works. To find out more, I tried Help. There I get a cascade of errors like this:
An error has occurred in the script on this page.

Since there is no technical support with GAOTD, I am stuck.

The previous questions make me wonder if I am reading this wrong. Does this just establish a secure folder on my home computer which mimics a website (a virtual site?) which my friends can log in to and receive files I want to send to them using my computer's IP address as a url, or does this require uploading to an actual remote server?
What if I'm right and I am using a VPN with dynamic IP? How would that effect things, assuming there is no remote server with a static IP? That only applies if this is what I think it is! I can't see anyone offering 5TB of lifetime file storage as a giveaway so please forgive my confusion.

David Jaynes, this does not understand multiple DynDNS providers it was never designed to work with VPN's... it was never designed to work with routers or the modern internet. You'd be far better off using a mature web server suite if you want to use their paradigm. It does not establish a SECURE folder on your computer but an insecure folder that is shared via a proprietary weak web server user program, not a service. It does not implement SSL/TLS connections just open plain unencrypted http connections.

Seriously if you have that much data (5Tb) is a LOT.
Put it on an external drive and put it in a cupboard.
Personally? I don't trust any of my data to external sources. But that's just me.
Obviously things like emails HAVE to go through external servers (unless you have your own - which is doable, but a bit complicated) but my stuff? It's on a hard drive in a drawer.
It's Occam's razor.

It doesn't look like they work that way. They contrast themselves with cloud services like Google Drive here:
"File Sharing Pro allows you to share files without third parties involved. Cloud services will store copies of your files on their servers, so if you don't feel comfortable with this setup, then you can keep your files among you and your trusted contacts unworried. Plus, File Sharing Pro serves copies of your original files from its secured folder; your original files stay where they were."

Keya23, While I can't argue with your point about trusting an external source for securing your data, putting in a drawer is not necessary safe either. The risk of a fire, theft, or your single backup drive failure is high enough to consider encrypted cloud storage for safely of your priceless photos or data.

So I can upload my 5TB data onto your server and it won't get deleted due to the lifetime license?

pdfuser, Seriously? The lifetime license is install and use the software on your own hardware. Hopefully, you would be discerning about to whom you would provide access to use it.

pdfuser, no this is a proprietary stand alone web server program (not service) and acts as a dumb insecure plain text http NOT https server while the programs running on YOUR PC over your internet connection. It is NOT hardened against denial of service resource depletion attacks and has not been tested against buffer overrun exploits. There are serious privacy concerns because all transfers are done in the clear and any man in the middle attack would succeed as the data not encrypted, even the password protection is useless as the login can be packet sniffed and replayed by the attacker. Thankfully this developer does not know how to implement UPNP or other method of port forwarding by their program so it will not automatically expose your data to the internet and the bots scanning for open ports to attack. My advice is choose another method to share files or carry them with you on a disc or thumb drive. I doubt you'd need to access 5TB of data from your phone while away from home.
