DriverTalent, Your app changes defaults without asking permission. My experience is good apps don't have to trick you into using them.

Matt, Hi~ This is for improving services. If it isn't acceptable to you, you could disable this in Settings of ExploreMax.
Launch ExplorerMax, open Settings, and uncheck the box before "Handle system folder operations".

I first tried installing and registering on a Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit machine. I found out:
1) It is clear that the program had not been tested on a native 32-bikt machine.
2) The program would only run properly (with the immovable GUI completely visible) at 100% text display size
3) After install, it was impossible to register. The "Register" function only returned (after a very long wait) the nag screen soliciting purchase.
4) The program made it impossible to run Windows Explorer; it substituted itself immediately and irreversibly for Windows Explorer.
5) Despite indicating at install that the program should not load at system startup, it did.

Considering all this, I have not tried to install the program on 64-bit Windows 10.
I don't trust a program with such deficiencies.
In addition, I don't like the subscription mode.

I especially love File Manager programs, and I have installed Explorer Max for at least two previous versions. I generally give the program a good checkout, but due to some features I have become accustomed to, I have not spent a lot of time after the first days. This version looks to be an improvement of the previous one I had installed, so I was anxious to see how well it did.

The program is similar to Windows Explorer, but Explorer Max can have dual panes plus a directory tree display at the left. This makes it much easier to copy/move files from one location to another. There are other File Managers that have a dual pane display, but some of those do not have the directory tree at the left. With or without the directory tree, there are other File Managers that have more options for the dual panes, such as swap left and right panes, accelerated copy/move between panes, easy filtering, access to the pane's parent folder, and several more that I have become accustomed to using on a daily basis.

For graphic files, rather than use whatever the user has been using, ExplorerMax insists that the user install their graphic file program, PhotoMax. It is a standalone image program with a few options, such as display images as a slideshow. The first time it runs, it triggers a Firewall warning because the program wants to have local network access. If you do not have a network set up, you can unclick the Firewall checkbox for network access, or just Cancel the Firewall dialog. PhotoMax will have access only if the user clicks on the Firewall dialog OK button.

Even after installing PhotoMax, when double-clicking on a graphic file, your original default program for the file extension will open the file, so I do not see any great value of the PhotoMax addon.

I noticed for the Slideshow display, the heading shows the dimension of the image in pixels and the filesize inside a set of parenthesis. For some reason, the vertical dimension is followed by some characters that are not part of the default language, English in my case. The extra characters I see are oriental characters, but I did not spend any time trying to determine the exact language. To the right of the ending parenthesis, more characters are displayed, which could be the filesize. Likely, this is a mistake that the developer would want to clean up.

Both programs (Explorer Max and PhotoMax) can be set to start automatically when the system boots up, or not start until manually started.

The Explorer Max program does have two features that stand out from other file managers, the Timeline and the Search.

The Timeline can quickly display images by their last modified date. Granted, you can do that with column sorting on other File Managers, but Explorer Max seems determined to keep things as simple and as uncluttered as possible.

The Search is pretty fast, and I think this is Explorer Max's best feature
In the Explorer Max settings, there is a checkbox labeled "Handle system folder operations (Recommended) and the box is prechecked. I think it might help Explorer Max to keep track of files better, and thus produce a faster search result. If anyone knows specifically what this option is for, I would like to know its correct purpose.

The program is sold as a subscription at $5.95 per month or $9.95 per year. You can pay $39.95 to get a lifetime license. I avoid subscriptions, so I would choose the Lifetime, ... except the features are nowhere near what I am willing to pay for what it offers. If I didn't have anything other than Windows Explorer, and I was not aware of great alternatives, I might find the price tolerable. Thankfully, I will not have to at this time. Since this program is improving with each new version, that day may come at some point down the road.

Jorge, you'll find the android style three horizontal lines at the top right hand corner. Click on it and then "register" and paste the code.

Why does it install to appdata\roaming? If I want to change this should I choose the folder programfiles or programfiles(x86)?

Sam, There is an icon in the lower right corner of the first install screen that lets you browse for the install location. I do agree that the register is a horrible default location.

"Why does it install to appdata\roaming?"

*Usually* the stated reason is that Program Files [or Program Files (x86)] require extra admin privileges, e.g., the usual prompt to authorize copying / moving a file / folder there. Sometimes apps that try to avoid the Program Files folder also add files/folders to AppData\ Local\ VirtualStore FWIW.

Seems to be good. In some functions, It reminds me of Norton Commander, mixed with google style.
