$40 bucks - way too expensive for a program that does so little. You have come to this community so that more people get to know your product and your company and to get feedback.

We want your success - there is a need for this for some people. Some suggestions

1. include the other popular MS office products - not just Excel
2. bring the price do below $10
3. pitch the product at the corporte market
4. also pitch it at the financial consultants market

A suggestion to the developer. Since you have one domain per application you could go some way to improving your search engine rating to inter-link the projects so they no longer apear as a bunch of lonely websites but part of a community of websites.

This program is intended to fulfill the particular need of quite a narrow audience of users. Simply too narrow for GOTD, I'd say.

MadCityObserver, but this developer is pretty much who GAOTD is intended for, a small developer with very limited marketing budget needing to increase his web exposure.

WOW! Normal price is $40 ???
For something you can do yourself with a VBA Macro???
You got to be kidding me!
There are programs which do far more (and at least complicated) things for far less than that.
Talking about greedy.......

Even the 22MB installation space is way to high for not even 100 lines of code.

Do it yourself with a simple VBA Macro. Internet is full of them. Example:

OscarWilde, I found it wiped correct references to my DropBox pictures with the error message "302 - Found". I had to edit the macro somewhat:

For Each Cell In Rng
Status = GetURLStatus(Cell)
If Status <> "200 - OK" Then
If Status <> "302 - Found" Then
Cell = Status
End If
End If

Excel Url Validator Support, oh wow I thought this was to check URL's to other worksheets and other spreadsheets locally... not web addresses!

This application checks the validity of internet links. It would be helpful to have a similar application that checks the validity of file paths on a computer or LAN that are listed on a spreadsheet or other text based document.

This giveaway is a nice tool for bloggers like myself. I could store all links in my blogs and web sites in a spreadsheet and then use the giveaway to see if an old blog or web pages needs an url-repair.

But would I spend $40 plus 21% VAT for that? if I earned money with this hobby: yes. But now: no.

From their website
"About Excel Url Validator

Excel Url Validator is developed and Supported by a small company that focuses on Delivering products that revolutionize the common workflow. We are part of the Microsoft Bizspark startup accelerator program and we strive to deliver perfection."

I'd expect a bit more information on a company before I consider installing software, some company details, address, country so I can assess their credibility and reputation.
This is regardless on if free or paid - on the subject of paid, $40 would put me off purchasing this unless it offered more than just URL checks.

You can do the same natively with VBA

bob, I suspect you'll find with a little more research that this "small company" is a lone developer. His name is in the Copyright line in the setup.exe embedded version info.

What version of Excel do you use this with?
I have Microsoft Office 365 which includes Excel, but Office now has its own store for extensions, so do you sell this software there?

Reply   |   Comment by Richard Sebire  –  3 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

I did test the program on a Win10 without any Excel.
The result can be stored in TXT and also in a XLSX.
The original file, made in Excel 2013:

Result in TXT:

and XLSX: https://www.dropbox.com/s/buyb4c9owc062yq/Test.xlsx

Richard Sebire, This is not an extensions. Its a standalone software. We dont sell it there.

Will this work for MS Office compatible programs such as Libre Office, Open Office, etc?

Reply   |   Comment by dadams  –  3 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+14)

dadams, it checks files with an Excel extension. It does not need Excell to be installed. If you use Libre- or OpenOffice, but save your files in an Excel format, there is no problem. And the newest Excel also excepts .ods as an extension.

Reply   |   Comment by krypteller  –  3 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

dadams, It only works with .xlsx format files.

Reply   |   Comment by Excel Url Validator Support  –  3 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

Excel Url Validator Support, here's a suggestion support .XLS and .CSV too and maybe simple text file list of webURL's since that is all it is checking!
