This only seems to backup 100 emails from each email folder. I did register it, and I closed the software after registering. Then I restarted it, and customized it. Other than the 100 email limitation, it works very well. Running Win 7 Pro SP1.

Sparky,

I have tested it multiple times and it does convert all emails here just fine ('till my HDD ran out of space :-P). Tested with Thunderbird mailboxes (MBOX) to EML files: +100 mailboxes in various folders and subfolders, +70000 emails in them.

Hi - I have Outlook 2016. I believe I should switch to another eMail host. Will this program hlep me?

Does anyone know what are the best hosts to switch to that can be contained on my Windows machine? I want to get away from Mister Softee.

Morgan Pierce ,

Hi. Your question does not make much sense.
Email hosts and Email clients are two very different things.
The mail client and the mail host are independant.
If you don't want to use Outlook, then use any other mailclient you wish.
Personally I would suggest Thunderbird, but any mailclient could do.

Oh, and yes, this program can convert Outlook PST mailbox files to other types of mailboxes (like MBOX used by Thunderbird).

I deleted the empty folders that EDM created when it finished its first run of trying to transfer my Outlook PST emails into MBOX files and ran EDM again. My Outlook file is 13 GB in size. There were no issues downloading, installing, resgistering, or running EDM. It just plain did not work. It created some folders that indicated there some should be some MBOX data in them but they were all empty when EDM was done. Not a good sign.

Will this work with transferring from Juno email to other email
programs? Juno is an old program but it allows for fancy colors
and fonts, and unlike in its online version, the program lets you
save backup files to your hard drive.

Juno's files have names like addrbook.nv, mailbox.at2, mailbox.atr
and mailbox.bdb

Stephe, no it only works with local programs of Thunderbird and Outlook, the rest it tries to cater to are webmail only.

It looks like it will only migrate 100 emails per folder.

BNM, was that restriction apparent AFTER you registered it with the license key provided AND restarted the program?

BNM,

After properly registering it, I have tested it multiple times and it does convert all emails here just fine ('till my HDD ran out of space :-P). Tested with Thunderbird mailboxes (MBOX) to individuel EML files, which are +100 mailboxes in various folders and subfolders, +70000 emails in them. And they all were individually created in there respective file folders.

I tested this on Vista and windows 10 and looked at the settings of the executables and there is no obvious reason the program will not run under XP SP2 or SP3 and might even run under Windows 2000!

It *should not* install under versions of windows before Windows Vista according to the embedded install script but if one simply extracts the contents using innoextractor under XP or windows 2000 it should run under those operating systems direct from the extracted files.

Also note the lower left REGISTER button remains after registration and restarting the program. It is registered but in the creation of this build the removal of the REGISTER button once registered has been overlooked. The option to register from the About menu button drop down menu is removed once registered and restarted so About button launches About panel imediatly upon pressing the About button once registered. Cannot say how well or badly it handles local email client data extraction as I do not use the few clients it caters to.

Sadly this does not support the most common email client that NEEDS the account and mass email migrate utility.... the built in Windows 10 Mail APP.

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+12)

TK, Hi, unfortunately, Microsoft does not make the mail format they use open to other developers. We are working on it so far.

Kevin Email Detail, sadly reverse engineering seems to be a lost art with modern developers. I presume you know where the files are stored and that they are always opened in exclusive access mode so other programs cannot open them for read/copy access? Does not help the reverse engineering... should be able to access them in offline mode though... or maybe by hooking into the process that is holding them open and inaccessible... not tried either as I don't want to develop an email migrating utility.

Oscar, interesting program! It did not find all the accounts in the windows 10 mail app here just the yahoo and an IMAP4 account but not the gmail or hotmail addresses and not limited to just migrating to PST will export to eml and many other formats too.
Does not export account settings like server names and ports and protocols and user names/pw but likely worth paying for IF it handles the email accounts needed to be exported for legal evidence gathering for supporting email exchanges. Thanks for posting the link :-)
As a side note it also installed under windows Vista and executed without complaints! Obviously it did not find the W10 mail app data stores but suggest it could be used in offline mode from a winPE session or the files copied out in a winPE session to a flash drive and processed under a different host version of windows.

Will this speed up and simplify a Thunderbird backup and migrate?

Reply   |   Comment by FJL  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

That's what i use Thunderbird for, too

Reply   |   Comment by wyrwolf  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

FJL, Email Detail Migrate can get access to your thunderbird account or MBOX files and produce a PST file or EMl files. Some people believe this is the easiest way to back up Thunderbird.

Reply   |   Comment by Kevin Email Detail  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

FJL,
To backup Thunderbird mailboxes, all you need to do is copy/backup the mail folder structure in Windows Explorer. You don't need any other tool for that.

According to the official web-site, supported conversions are:
EML to MBOX, EML to PST, PST to EML, PST to MBOX, MSG to EML, MSG to MBOX, PST to MBOX, MBOX to EML, MBOX to PST.

I was wondering, as I do know people with Outlook Express DBX mailboxes which may be in need of conversion before long.

BAW30s, Hi, we don't support dbx due to very low demand. If you have a dbx file, send us via our contact form (https://emailindetail.com/contact) and we will convert it for you for free.
