Everyone (and #63), Easy RSS Content Generator does above-average Registry damage. Almost all software installations do some (or much) damage to the Registry and shared files, and sometimes to shared multimedia utilities (Flash, QuickTime, etc.). This one changes shared registry entries to point to ComCtl32.OCX, MsComCt2.OCX, and MsWinSck.OCX in its installation folder, instead of \Windows\System32 (in Windows XP). Further, it's changing a couple of interface class entries which are usually only changed by spyware. It's a big no-no for installations to hijack shared files. #63, your shared files should still be present, it's probably the damaged Registry entries that are causing your problems. In Windows XP, you can probably do a System Restore, if you have a restore point which is recent enough not to do any damage (I recommend setting a restore point immediately prior to software installations). GOTD should have a programmer check for Registry and file damage done by installations prior to offering the software.

Interesting, though it seems there are many other rss tools in the freeware section that could do this job.

My comments don't seem to be being accepted at the moment. ???

If you want to give this prog a miss for the present, but think it may be useful, then download the demo from the home site (address above) Download the give away and activate it to get the activation code, then save it to a word doc or other. It activates the demo from the home site on a computer not connected to the internet, meaning it will activate any time, not just on the day of the giveaway.

Thanks for this software. I may have a use for it when I get back into keeping a web site up and running.

:)

This isn't useful to me at present because my website is still under construction (laying dormant, more like, lol), however I have downloaded the demo from Extra Labs software’s homepage:

http://www.extralabs.net/downloads.htm

and activated it on a computer unconnected to the internet and it registered okay, which means, you could save the demo file, with a copy of the activation code and use it at a later date if it becomes useful. Of course you'll need to download the giveaway version as well and unpack and activate it to obtain the activation code. :)

To Swan, ignore the slurs on your person. They aren’t worth getting upset about. :)

Augh... uninstalling this app removed COMCTL32.OCX from my system. No uninstall program should remove a shared file unless it is positive it installed it. Nice application, needs work on the install app. Off to replace my shared files.

Take a look here on GOTD freeware library:
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/freeware/search.php?string=rss
to find more RSS handling software.

There are so many of them that I wish I knew which one is better able to automatically publish the search result; it seems that ERCG can't do it automatically.

Anyone knows any of those programs listed at the above link that could do it? I use NetObjects Fusion 9, a website editor (FREE on PC Pro (a UK magazine) Cover CD/DVD currently on sale).

This is basically a Splogger tool. Awesome…. NOT!

Not really. Not everyone has the option of having whatever content they make be automatically generated. Also, an RSS feed is hardly spam: To be able to get the feed, people would have to go to it on purpose. Yeah, you might get your pagerank up a bit with it, but then you realise that WordPress is used by most splogs, and then your point becomes completely moot.

Would always appreciate any prog related to webdesign etc. Thanks.

jEdit. Unless you wanted something WYSIWYG, in which case you might as well just use Word or Writer as I'm sure you don't really want to bother learning how to properly make webpages.
Pardon my sarcasm, but I've been just about every facet of good and bad web programming. Feel free to contact me if you really want such a program, however.

Passwords for individual pages on a website, or for the entire site (log-ins.);

Depending, you may be looking for htpasswd (using Apache), or something like phpNuke. What you're looking for is a server-side package, NOT a software running on your own computer (unless, perhaps, if you're still using something like Geocities).

Dynamic feed for website that automatically picks up any changes on the site and notifies customers by email;

I believe there's a program named similarly to RSS2Mail that sounds like what you're looking for. Otherwise, RSS/Atom is already what you should be using. If your visitors don't want to figure out how to use it themselves, that's their own loss, honestly - if they want to remain old-fashioned, they can use the old-fashioned way: asking (and manually checking).

Log-in/subscription to mailing list and activation software;
Mailing list creation;

You haven't looked. Period. Mailman, for example, is a popular free mailing list software. Google 'mailing list software'.

Guest books;

Plenty of these. Even Geocities and Bravenet have them.

Refer a site to a friend software;

This is an amazingly simple mail() call in software. Heck -- you could even write a mailto link without an e-mail address (I think) and put a body and a subject, and it'd work the same - you wouldn't even need any other software!

Site monitoring;

Stats, or live monitoring?

Font graphic manipulation software;

You got me there :>

Image mappers;

Image maps aren't as hard to create as some make them out to be. Even Paint tells you where your cursor is on an image, and from there you can create an image map easily.

Menu creators;

<ul><li>Item 1</li><li>Item 2</li></ul>
That, with a little bit of CSS, will make you menus. I'm not kidding.

Site search;
Link popularity software;

Look no farther than Google itself for these. Google site: and link: searches will help you.

Any Picture to Icon;

You missed that software :< Fortunately, if you're feeling brave, you can still use The GIMP (and possibly Irfanview, I don't recall) for that.

Form Builders;

There's no simple way to do that, esp. concerning the back-end.

Counters;

You, uh, did look...?

while lecturing seven others for failing to meet your standards for commenting, you similarly fail to share any useful insight about the software offering. as you stated: "DON’T BE SO DAMN LAZY! I and other people are sick and tired of wading through these useless comments to get to the decent reviews - which are few and far between these days."

such arrogance and irony.

Swan(#43): You talk about building a website. Why don't you do that and then feel free to make up the rules. You used up twelve city blocks (complete with wide-open spaces and boldface so no one will miss Her Majesty's post), taking down people who aren't leaving useful comments, only to tell us you're still deciding if you even want the software. Since you started haunting this section, you've acted like it was yours. You throw around the words "we" and "us" as if you speak for everyone here. You regale us with your pig-headed opinions, but as soon as someone disagrees with you, you run squeaking to the forums looking for justice. You are pathetic. As I suggested before - build your website, make your rules, and leave running the GOTD website to the people at GOTD. In the meantime, go make yourself useful and bake your man some cookies, you brown-nosing windbag.

HAVE A GREAT DAY, EVERYONE!!!

Hello again,

For those that don't regularly read Bladed Thoth's reviews, this is the last line of today's review:

"Its concept is good, you may just have better results from incorporating a feed reader on your site than this."

If not for BT I'd never have known how to use it and what it was for exactly.

Uninstalled.

#22 PLady 100:

"Oh, and Swan & Fluffyntx, I tried to post to you in the forums, but the site wouldn’t let me."

That's odd - but thanks anyway! :) Try to let me know these things by pm, rather than here though ok? No-one else cares . .lol - I appreciate the fact that you tried to answer me - so many people do go unanswered here. :)

#32 Jennifer:

"This looks like a great program but I can’t seem to find a user manual on their site. Has anyone else been able to find it?"

Sorry - that's been my problem too - and in having to try and depend on others instead - without luck!

#41 Tobey:

"Would always appreciate any prog related to webdesign etc. Thanks."

Like wise! How about software that creates:

Passwords for individual pages on a website, or for the entire site (log-ins.);

* Dynamic feed for website that automatically picks up any changes on the site and notifies customers by email;

* Log-in/subscription to mailing list and activation software;

* Guest books;

* Refer a site to a friend software;

* Site monitoring;

* Font graphic manipulation software;

* Image mappers;

* Menu creators;

* Mailing list creation;

* Site search;

* Link popularity software;

* Any Picture to Icon;

* Form Builders;

* Counters;

And that's just to name a few. ;) Now I know that there are plenty of freebie alternatives for some of these, (I use a few,) but frankly, I'd rather have the fully licensed software.

Have a great evening everyone!

This program looks promising. #43, please calm down a bit! If you want reviews, go to a review site, not the comment area of Giveaway of the Day. TK #49, I love people like you who help others out by giving very detailed comments. GOTD, keep the software rolling! I bet it's not easy finding vendors willing to hand out their software for free!

I recently 'stumbled upon' this site a couple of months ago and I now visit it daily. Sometimes I find software that suits my needs and purposes - sometimes I don't. I work in a really low-resourced school that is low on funding, my children have all bookmarked your site at home and they are really appreciating the free games. I think some people here are missing the point, the software here is offered free of charge, and in return, GOTD gets plenty of site hits and free promotion. It all suits a duel purpose. For those people who can't access software at retail prices, the occasional offer that crops up is greatly appreciated. As I understand it, this section is a comment/review section, not a place to slag off the free offers given - it's not WHAT you say, it's HOW you say it. There are constructive ways of making comments, perhaps some people need to remember this? My feeling is that there are spoilt, overindulged members commenting on this board who could attain software at the retail price if they really wanted to, but for those who cannot, this website is greatly appreciated.

Thanks GOTD - your offers help to make a lot of 'unspoilt' school children very happy. :-)

Cheers

GAOTD, many thanks for what you doing for us! I like your site, it's very interesting for me, not only useful. And I have a question. You give us a "PC-lifetime-limited-licence". Isn't possible to give GAOTD-community a real "Person-lifetime-licence"? I understand it's not a charity but a business, but I think you could find such a solution for your lovely community. I'll fight for this. Be ready!!!:)
What to do, I like to fight for community.:)

Good morning everyone! ;)

I'm still trying to work out whether or not I need this piece of software. I was thinking that it might be a great idea to use it as an update service for a website that is more dynamic than others - so use it to notify a websites customers of any changes made on the website.

But to be honest I'm not sure if it'll recognize the changes and include them in the feed. Comments please anyone?

#1 Grey:

"not a very great program. not worth 32 $ ,,in my opinion."

Please don't say things like this and just leave it there without any explanations - WHY is it "not a very great program? And WHAT makes it worth less than $32?

#4 irrdev:

"Nice program, GOTD!"

What makes it a "nice program" - tell us more about its features!

#5 Detox:

"Cool! Thanks!"

You obviously like this program and intend to use it - WHY?

# 7 gpmill

"Looks like a good program. thanx"

WHY is it a "good program?"

#9 Ross

"Great!! Thanks GOTD!!"

WHY is it great?

#10 Dan Eash

"Outstanding! Just the tool I need to put feeds on my new site"

WHY is it "outstanding?" WHAT features do you especially like?

#12 ngig

"Very nice and good program!"

WHY is it nice - WHAT makes it a good program?

7/12 totally useless comments - and I didn't bother going down the list anymore. Please people, don't you understand that this is a REVIEW WEBSITE for the developers - it's not just for your personal opinions. Take a little time to explain your opinions to others.

DON'T BE SO DAMN LAZY! I and other people are sick and tired of wading through these useless comments to get to the decent reviews - which are few and far between these days.

We don't just come here to 'grab a freebie and run,' like some seem to do.

In the meantime, I'll play with the software a little more.

Are GOTD communists? If they do allow this comment I would like to say the quallity of software is becoming poorer and poorer each day. I would like to see some full versions of adware/spyware checkers etc. I wonder how much GOTD get paid - open up GOTD - inform us - It would be a good idea to also to tell us whats coming during the week ahead.

When is the majority going to catered for. Progs that are genuinely useful. Things to secure your PC, Anti-Spam. Good paint progs...Security software...Screensavers...'Button' progs...

Nah...There is nothing of any use to the 'average' everyday, home PC user.

OK, so I'm breaking my own rule. But I'm still seething after yesterday, and GOTD ignoring my post ALL DAY. I finally was able to post a link, but never was able to state my opinion. (which wasn't even irate, just pointing out all the badness in yesterday's offer) {so why do I think they'll post this, either?!}

I'm honestly leery now, of this site. They lost a HUGE amount of trust and faith with me, yesterday. I'm wondering if they aren't the ones trying to add spyware to the offers?

I've been so busy caught up in schoolwork this semester, I haven't jumped on the RSS bandwagon. I've seen those letters everywhere, but still have no idea what it is. (go to college straight out of high school. Don't wait until your brain is too old to want to learn! lol) So, I believe I'll stay away from this offer until later in the day, and see what everyone else has to say..... or maybe I'll run it and see if my computer runs the red lights and blows the warning horn as madly as it did yesterday. ;o)

Oh, and Swan & Fluffyntx, I tried to post to you in the forums, but the site wouldn't let me. Said I had to sign in, even tho I already was, and wouldn't let me. I'm beginning to agree with the conspiracy theorists! lol
