ok- I had a little time to play with this today. Over all I like the concept.
Easy Flyer Creator need to add 'Banners'. Banners would fit very well with this software.

Second- and this is a biggie. You need a 'save as' function. I need this software to save to desktop as JPG or BMP.

Third- the screen needs to be resizeable to fill the monitor.

And lastly- Easy Flyer Creator's function isn't bad at all- It does what it says. The templets are fine :) And it's fairly easy to use. But need to comply more with windows standard look and design.

Overall, this is a good start- can't wait to see the next version.

PS- check your spelling on some of the templets.

Dear #55: If you don't try the product, please don't rate it! No thumbs up. No thumbs down. Not because you like the weather, or had an argument with your wife, or you think too many other people have or haven't rated it a certain way. The ratings are for epoeple who have tried the produce to indicate whether it worked well for them or not.

When I run setup.exe, I get a self extractor for Easy Flyer Creator. When that step is finished, I get a popup for the PD Particles installation. When I cancel the 2nd part of the setup, it tries to delete the installation files and tells me that c:\windows\setup1.exe is not found.

I installed PD Particles back on 09/28/08 and perhaps that installation uses the same installation files and/or installation log that Easy Flyer Creator. I tried looking for the .msi file that Easy Flyer Creator uses but I can't find it.

I'm still not sure why it won't install properly unless the 1st part of the installation doesn't overwrite files if they already exist and that's why it re-installs PD Particles.

#94 had a good point that there should be some sort of faq for these types of problems since I can't be the only one experiencing this type of error.

And maybe future software developers should stick to just 1 setup.exe file and not have an .exe file extract an .msi that has to be installed. It's just going to cause people more problems down the road. Also developers should clean up their installation files too.

As with any gaotd offer, if any or all of this app provides you with something you can work with, by all means use it and share your pros and/or cons. It is not unusual in my experience to have several similar apps, such as image editors, that are redundant to keep except for one or two unique features that justify the extra memory usage. So all gaotd program offers are a potential asset to somebody. I say this to mean that no one should discredit gaotd for any app they offer.

An app in itself, this one for example, may offer something to a limited few -- just about any desktop publishing program offers pretty much the same. The problem here is everyone wanting to jump on the critique bandwagon and it often amounts to so much Blah Blah. Fubar says it well and with authority -- others are questionable in their abilities to evaluate software. When people were dogging on a WonderShare app the other day (WonderShare is one of the best authors of quality software here,) and saying how they wish EASUS programs weren't as prevalent, yet they choose to espouse this clunkware app today should say a lot about who is doing most of the commenting. Seems like some are using this as some type of social participation club.

I would like to see gaotd publish an faq link that addresses the common types of problems folks have using gaotd apps, sort of like newsgroups often provide, except that is rightfully not gaotd's focus. Most newbies could benefit from official clarifications.

#66 Fubar,

Your comments are always very welcome as they give me a good understanding of the software, especially if it tries to be playful or malicious with its codes.

I am trying to find a software that can copy files with long filenames. I have tried Robocopy and here is the review. It is irrational and on one should rely on it. But Robocopy is the only software that I know of that handles long filenames.

Today's GAOTD, I love the many templates and it is easy to use and I like it. However, the download is extremely slow.

#45 Buzz, Thanks for letting us know about this deleting fonts, I definitely do not need that bull.
#66 Fubar, Glad you made an appearence today. Your comments are always informative, and I always look for your comment (if you do) before downloading the giveaways here. They really should pay you, or maybe you should do like ashraf and have your own review site. There aren't many comments or reviews that get into the technical aspect of software and it is really needed.
Thanks GOTD and Peridot Technologies but I'll pass, deleting fonts and "numerous issues" is enough for me.

Followup:

I noticed the messages from those who lost fonts and checked. I don't seem to have lost any of the fonts listed by others, nor as far as I can tell any others (I do have quite a number installed). Also, even though I aborted the installation twice, both times I got the "Successfully activated" pop-up window with the registration code, etc. Maybe either GAotD or Peridot can fix the installation program and offer it again for folks to test . . .

Never ceases to amaze me why people think that every program here should get a thumbs up because its free and we love this website (which I do.) If I were the developer of this program, I would be writing down all the negatives, and implement corrections into further versions of the program. Isnt this the purpose of the forum here? Its always nice to get a pat on the back and have everyone praise a program..but it sure doesnt help improve anything. Dont criticize the flip side....or call anyone ungrateful for not liking certain aspects of an offered application or commenting on alternatives...as this is what induces the developers to go that one step further and justifies the sale of a product.

Similar to #52:

It reports starting the installation program, unpacking the Easy Flyer Creator .msi file, then switches from saying it is installing "Easy Flyer Creator" to claiming that it is installing "PD Artist," which is a program I already have on my system. After aborting the installation, it says it is removing the installation files, which are still labeled as "PD Artist," but at least it does not seem to have messed up the PD Artist installation already there. Tried to install "Easy Flyer Creator" twice with the same results.

All those P's.
@13
That is a matter of opinion.
I happen to see a decent potential for this program, although I agree it is missing some key editing features. However, these are fairly trivial to the developer, considering everything that has already been done.
I think that what puts it above all none 9/10 software is that it has such precise control over layout.

For those having problems with the GOTD setup file as packaged...

Running the Setup.exe file contacts the GOTD server, then expands 2 files: Setup.exe & Easy Flyer Creator.msi... That 2nd Setup.exe is automatically run, which starts the msi file. Those 2 files are also identical to what's included in the download at the developers' site according to Microsoft Windiff.

You might have better luck running the trial setup, or extracting the msi file from it, & running that directly.

Numerous issues. Lousy installer, uses a WinZip self-extractor which is improperly configured. It's extracting into your Temp folder (which is a serious Windows design, or lack thereof, flaw), but doesn't overwrite, so if there's a Setup.exe in your temp folder, the old one will execute (rename, move, or delete it). This is a .NET app, and incorrectly places a system file in its own folder. It adds and replaces some fonts (I didn't experience any deletions, as noted by #44, Buzz). This violates the Paint.NET license by installing some old version (renamed) without credit, and charging for it. This requests (requires) administrator rights to run (very bad for this type of application). This runs as a local server, which is generally OK. Requested direct disk access, which I routinely block. Requested a window hook of the file dialog box; I don't know whether those requests are real or due to a conflict on my system, but I block them. Requires Internet access to register. Non-standard UI, doesn't support common operations like resize/maximize, tray button doesn't display or work properly. Primitive editing features, other problems which many have mentioned, such as lack of undo/redo, limited image formats, etc.

#9, oliviab, you should take Ashraf's reviews for what they are, the perspective of a junior computer user. He's not a programmer, he has no technical competence, so what he says about the internal operations of programs is irrelevant and should be ignored. #4, Billy, this can export to PDF files, it doesn't support PNG images.

Easy Flyer Creator is just that -- a quick & easy way to create / print / publish flyers, handouts, mailers, emails etc. You can get better results from more advanced, more flexible software, like some Image Editors, most any DTP / Layout app, Vector Graphics programs, & capable Word Processors, but if you just want to quickly knock something out, in a portion of the time it might take to learn any of that software, this is where Easy Flyer Creator comes in.

Easy Flyer Creator uses the Windows (msi) installer, meaning there are some install related: bugs, a bunch of registry changes, & changes to or in your Windows folders. It's got 122 templates with accompanying jpg thumbnails headed for the App Data folder. The Masks folder has 47 jpg files intended to block out parts of an image, or provide outline FX. The Pictures folder has 535 image files, jpg & GIF, some lower resolution, most highly compressed. 51 fonts are included, some pretty common, & some might be older than what you already have installed. There's a Microsoft VB file: "MSMAPI32.OCX" that according to a Google search, might occasionally cause problems with mailing on newer, updated Windows. If you already have software installed that uses this common file, make sure it's still there & working if you uninstall Easy Flyer Creator. Paint.NET is a well-known, free image editing app, & it's files are used with the built-in image editor.

For info on the developer / publisher, Peridot Technologies, follow the link GOTD provides up above, then click the link on the lower left of the product home page.

I gave up eventually.

I experienced the same thing as #44. Some of my fonts were removed after the software was uninstalled. Calibri is used as the main font for many Office 2007 products (Outlook, Word etc) and it was very obvious that something was wrong when I first went into these products after the uninstall.

#44, thanks for the screenshots of the fonts. Now I know what fonts have to be reinstalled.

#33/Alexandar: I had trouble installing, kept trying to extract & activate in an infinite loop but never installed. Rebooted and ran setup again and got the same problem. I downloaded another copy and, without rebooting, ran the newly downloaded setup.exe and it installed, registered and ran fine. I guess with that size of download there may be problems or maybe it was the browser, I used Safari on the first download that failed and Firefox on the second one that worked. Try downloading and installing again. Good Luck!

Crapware?
Until today I was a big fan of Ashraf. But to describe SCRIBUS as an alternative is a bit far fetched. Even though these templates are a bit ugly they will do the job for some. Scribus does NOT come with templates.

As for the "FREE" alternatives:
- Ragtimes is no longer free.
- Scribus is realy crappy to use, but has a solid PDF-export function. (I have used it for a year.)
- OpenOffice does not come with templates eighter.
- SerifPage Plus SE - is it still free? (Does not come with templates.)

Download this software and see for yourself. It can be a timesaver if your demands are not to high...

Running Vista 64-bit
Install completes, GOTD says it was successfully activated but the program does not launch. It ask for admin rights (like many programs), enter password and it just goes away. Tried launching it with "run as adminstrator" and same results. No uninstall option & is not in the control panel list "to uninstall program". Running the set-up a second time gives an option to uninstall. How would you uninstall if you deleted the set-up? Would it even let you get that far if its after the GOTD 24-hour deadline?

Even tried downloading the trial version. Same result - installs but won't launch. Too bad was interested in the ticket creator. Guess I'm stuck with mail merge in MS Word.

@16 Nancy - the image editor used by Easy Flyer Creator is Paint.net (http://www.getpaint.net/). Its free and uses layers. A great program if you need an image editor.

OS: Windows XP Pro 64 bit

When I double click on the "Setup" file, it appears to install correctly and shows the pop up window stating that it's checking the license and even redirects me back to the GAOTD site.

Though I get an error which reads:
WinZip Self Extractor: WinZip Self-Extractor header corrupt. Possible cause: bad disk or file transfer error.

EasyFlyer Creator doesn't show up in my program list and ends up not installed on my computer.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? If so, is there a fix?

Thanks!
