Reading the comments, I sense there is a need to differentiate between at least 2 types of recovery. Ashraf has written a very good article on this in the past. I think it can be found in Dottech. The two types are:

1) Data recovery from a damaged hard disk or portable hard disk or memory card or USB thumb drive.

2) A full scope Bare Metal recovery of the ENTIRE hard disk contents including Operating Systems, complete user's particular system configuration, all programs and all data. This usually includes a Boot Disk (either Windows PE or Linux or both)for those occasions when you cannot even boot. This is a.k.a. hard disk imaging software.

This particular giveaway software under Munsoft Easy Data Drive Recovery is in category 1.

For category 2, Acronis, Macrium, Easeus, Paragon, Aomei make good software for this. The acid test for how good such software is not how easy it is to make a backup. The acid test is how easy, complete and accurate you can RESTORE your hard disk --- when it actually crashes due to some malware or other problem and you cannot even boot. Some lousier software fail at this critical point ; e.g. your Boot Disk cannot even detect the hard disk inside your PC. Imagine the frustration.

1) I don't like the way to the registration window. Had to restore 3 files one by one.
2) The regristration-window doesn't let me enter anything....

Thanks for the treat, GAOTD and MunSoft.
I would try and install this if it was portable.
I see little use for non-portable data recovery solutions which I cannot add to my boot-able service drive ant take it with me to work. There are of course situations when this can be helpful, in many cases however, it will not be of any use because the computer it is installed on will not boot up anymore. Why would anyone produce a recovery solution that helps in only half the cases you need it. And seeing that it doesn't manage bigger storage media is a real deal-breaker. Therefore thanks but no thanks. I'd rather restore from my backups. it's quicker anyway.

I have been using Macrium Reflect Free for my drive recovery program for a few years now and as it is free and works every time I have needed it I think I will pass on today's offer.
Thanks GAOTD and Munsoft.

Thanks for giving us this excellent software. It was easy to install on my Win 7 x64 machine and it works very well. I have tried almost every data recovery software offered here in the past two or three years. The most files any other software has recovered has been 143 files. This software recovered 450 files and I am very happy with it.

I really dislike it when a program has a name like "Easy Drive Data Recovery" and it only recovers data not drives.

most data recovery software takes less than 30MB disk space to install so it is worth installing just to check it out.

Windows unformated an external drive just days ago, so I was eager to try this tool and see what it could do at it...
Euhm, just nothing at all actually : it only displayed my formated drives...

Probably a hint for the developer : not only distracted people occasionally need recovering files , it would be nice if this tool could handle situations like this one too.
I have a tool on-board that was able to rebuild the folder tree and identify and display all individual files, only that one is so stupid to just number the files instead of displaying their names. It must be possible to beat that...

Anyway, thanks a lot for offering this, it will surely be good to have at hand sooner or later.

I installed this on my notebook (Dual boot - Win8.1 & Win 10 - Build 9926 - 8 Gb RAM - 2 - 1TB HDD - Intel HD Graphics 4400 & Nvidia GeForce GT 650M - I7 Proc & Dual Touch Screen Monitors). I had partitioned my C Drive to create both boot drives & the program likes both 8.1 & 10 BUT - as headbanger said - My Book (4 GB) cannot be read by this program but ALL of my other 1TB & smaller external drives are being read (including both drives where the .exe files resides. The program found hundreds of my deleted files & brought back any I wanted, so on smaller drives, this does what it says; but, for $60 I might want to start backing up more often or more regularly) BTW - Thumbs up for MS - I upgraded my Win10 Eval package & they didn't lose a single file or icon (But, they still didn't fix the taskbar problem yet - lol).

I am in need of a file/drive recovery software. I saw this and said perfect. The first thing i saw was 47 thumbs up and 138 thumbs down. WOW thats really bad. Let me see why everyone is giving it thumbs down. I looked at the comments and found only 3 comments. Only one comment said why they had an issue. This is not fair to the developer. I will download this and try it for myself. If I have issues with it I will comment the issues so the developer can fix them.

I generally defer to Whiterabbit, Karl, Giovanni and a couple of the other regulars here and depend on...and appreciate very much....their evaluation, which I have found to be quite accurate and very helpful. I realize for the folks who haven't been visiting this site daily for years Karl's initial comment may not sound helpful, but from extensive personal experience I have found that if one of "the regulars" makes a comment like, "It is good,", if you do not have a previous copy or if the build you have needs updating, you probably need to jump on it because if you don't and it is something that you will use you will end up wishing that you had. These people spend many, MANY hours evaluating these programs for people like me who don't have the time or energy to do it, and I appreciate their efforts and advice. Please don'r be unkind in your comments to them, because we regular visitors know that Karl's comment of "it is good" is the cue for the electronic version of a huge celebration!

Aside from that, I also have the previous version and it has saved my sanity a couple of times. It's easy to use and IMO gives better results than many much higher cost programs. The very fact that I have taken the time to say this is, for what it is worth, a rousing commendation on my part. My thanks to Munsoft and the GAOTD team. And on that note, I'm off to update MY version!

But I don't have an easy drive! I have a hard drive and a CD drive and one of those tiny lil drives that you can stick camera cards in. But I don't have an easy drive at all. Will it recover programs on all those other drives or does it only work on easy drives?

HaHa, and I won't buy an aluminum meatball press because I don't like aluminum meatballs.

I thot that an easy drive was the 210 at 2 a.m.

A hard drive is the 405 at 5 p.m.

Installed to see, if there is something new. This is truly an evergreen.

A Russian company from Smolensk, address&phone.

This was included in MunSoft Data Recovery Suite 2.0 from January 10, 2015 and as a standalone program it was GOTD on December 1, 2014.

Here are the old reviews:

Yes, this is a new EXE:

You are comparing executable filesizes? Why don't you right-click the .EXE, select Properties and in the dialog window, then you select "Details" to see what really matters...?!

@ Michael

You are rather new here?

The version does not give any hint in the details.
I prefer to show the whole directory, so that everybody sees the difference.

Reply   |   Comment by Karl  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+42)

No details? Actually it does. There is a 3kb difference in the size. Don't you think it's odd for a executable to grow by 3kb and not be new version? Granted, I don't view changing the splash screen as a viable upgrade/update but then again, I don't see car manufactures replacing the 2014 "sale" sticker in the window and calling the car a 2015 model. Rather the .exe is un-compiled to see whats there or not, a 3kb payload can comprimise more than people think. JMO

I think, it's not an update, it is the difference between the trial and the gaotd version. If you take the latest trial setup from the developer's homepage and install it, the size of the .exe is 3726 KB, and the gaotd setup has 3800 KB. By the way, the trial refuses activation with the gaotd key. Therefore it seems that no updates have been made since 2013.

Actually a 3k difference can be nothing more than a different icon for the program.
In fact often the program's icon can take up more bytes than the code itself.

Karl as much as I enjoy reading most of your comments/observations on GOTD not all of which I agree with but freedom of speech and all that but why are you so obsessed about company names and addresses? Most people don't care what country software comes from or the address of the company all they are interested in is whether the software is up to the job they want use it for and it not some kind of malware. Just curious that's all.

My giveaway version is from Feb 2013. It is unusual for an app to have no updates whatsoever for two whole years. Also, this is helpful information for GAOTD regulars, who often have the apps offered and thus just need to know if it is significantly different from what they already have....
