Easy audio mixer is a multi track editor designed for average users. With it, you will be creating your own audio projects even if you never used a multi track editor or a mixer. If you need to create presentations, podcasts, or even music... This software has all tools to make your work stand over the rest.

Changes in version 2.1.3 (compared to the last version available at GOTD) are mostly in the interface. Though some engine improvements have been made, such as improved ASIO support.

I feel Easy audio mixer has most of the features I use when working on recording studios creating podcasts and radio ads. Now the idea with the version was to simplify and make a more comfortable interface.
If you want to help with this, and in the same time WIN a Life Time license, please, read the following topic.

This did the trick. Thanks for the support. Love this software. Well laid out and easy to use and tutorial videos are easy to understand and learn from. I will definitely be purchasing this one so I don't miss any upgrades and new versions.

Win a full license

If you'd like to help determine how to improve the user interface, there's a an exercise I would like you do.
Finish it and you will earn a full license for Easy audio mixer 2.x. That includes upgrades and tech support.

What you need to do is install the software, and create a project that meets the following requirements

- Have a recording channel with something recorded on it (anything you like, voice, doing sounds with objects, instruments, even clapping)
- Have a music channel with at least two music files on it.
- Add effects (such as reverb, echo, distortion, etc) to one channel
- Use Fade In/Out effects on at least one clip
- And finally convert your project to a media file.

The project can have more channels and clips, as long as the requirements are met.

When you are done. Please send a screenshot of your project, along with the exported audio file to:

gaotd@gfsoftware.com

You will receive a small survey and after that you'll receive the upgrade to your full license.

Glad you said this, cause I was getting bad errors trying to bring audio right into a track directly I got

Unable to cast object of type CommonForms.frmAddAudioFile to type TrackEditor, ifmAddAudioFile

Yeap. that's some deep forms and files interfacing voodoo goin on there. I would just remove the temptation to add a file to the track with a right click. A balloon say USE THE LIBRARY AT BOTTOM LEFT TO ADD FILES/ADD MUSIC ;o)

maybe we are avoiding the word LIBRARY? MEDIA CENTER? CACHE QUEUE? MAIN STAGING?

However, Clicking Continue, I then decided to come back here and read your expanded giveaway So I started treating this program not unlike sony vegas (e.g. lets use the media center and database) and boom the files got imported that way instead. So AFTER I have a small library imported, boom FINALLY ready to create art.

looking for my DX / VST plugins I see are not here. note: do we clutter up the interface with this? Or virgin record only... Oh wait we have a flanger and echo. Such action obligates adding VSTi & DX too?
Or not since it's TRACK effect only. I can have several files on a track who have an effect toggled on or off in dependent on need.

SO I have to say as long as you import your files like your planing a TV or radio show and you won't have problems, try to gnaw at it like a mouse editing one single track at a time and your not going to enjoy this much. You would be better with Audacity for a single track, I was able to get up to speed in short time on this interface so that is a plus.

One click Export Weee...

okay improvements... hmmm that's going to be tough. Ignoring the exception error it's still hard to critique this, it WORKS solid like I said if you use the add music library.

Overwriting files on Start-Up might be an accidental bad thing. Maybe a check box in | Settings.. ? Would be better to RE-OPEN last project unless your cranking out song after song, which you may be doin ;o)

IN the little i's o's for dragging the fades at the beginning and end of the clip, um there should be some little a's (hey don't go there-lol) to drag the amplitude of the clicked on FILE not just the whole track db up / down . anyway.. it should work exactly like lengthen-ING and shortening the file with the double black arrows.

But with that said, I am sure I just go on to clutter up the interface with my visions and ideas of trying to make it into a combination of Magix and Sony Vegas... So I digress. After I have you convinced to make it portable and have EMAIL built in your going to scratch your head and say why did I add all these fidonet nodes and a giant nodelist compiler to this thing? (don't all applications evolve into email?) Seriously kidding aside though, You have a pretty solid alternative project going, in a world with STIFF competition from big industry players some of who are starting to be hated. I do like the interface as long as I accept the current limitations. It might be exciting to follow the changes as this gets better over the years.

It is QUICK once you know open project | click R hit record and play guitar/sing. for example. But I also do this in other programs. I probably ain't the best tester because of that.

Having done a show several years I also have a certain amount of burnout. One thing that breaks monotony I saw in all these years is that of UNIQUENESS. You can have a firestorm of activity if you have a unique ordeal. Hey look at these new X, y, z's. hey listen to this new effect, I want one for my guitar, I want one for my laptop. You see?

God bless.
NO license, give to another.

Sadly the bottom left option doesn't work either - same result as before. Flawed software and too much hassle and time wasted - uninstalled.

Reply   |   Comment by Kestrel  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

Thanks Fredward for all the feedback. I'll try to answer most of your questions (y)

VSTs... No available yet, the program supports them, but the feature is disabled. There are some compatibility issues, mostly with old VSTs (written using sdk 2.3 or older). Sooner or later they will make their way to the software.

Yes, effects apply to complete channels. I was also thinking of enable effects for single clips. Just need a way to make it intuitive, and not confuse the user why there are two effect options.

I think you are right about the amplitude option. You got one for each clip, but is either by right clicking the click, or clicking the "Clip Gain" button on the toolbar.

I really like the idea of re opening the last project. Will implement some form of it.

Thanks again !

this release, including the mid offer update has a bug that leaves the process EAMixer.exe still running after the window has closed... the process does not terminate unless I use taskmanager to force an End Task on it.

This became apparent when trying to copy over the updated files to the programs folder and couldn't because the files were still in use even though I had exited the program using the Project menu exit method. I had to use task manager to free up the files so they could be overwritten with the new ones. If I relaunch the program a new process is created, which then remains if exited normally... do it several times and there will be several copies of the same process hanging on wasting resourcces.

Some suggestions:

* Use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out. And zoom in on the cursor position, not the left side of the window!

* Allow to place the cursor while the clip is playing.

* Why can I only place the cursor in 1 second steps? That's very annoying!
Same for clip placement. Typing numbers in the clip properties for exact placement isn't convenient at all...

A fun easy to use app, but the help files are more than worth watching, don't bypass them. For television or radio production, as well as music production, the tutorials have real world value.

Installed and registered without any difficulty on opening quite a busy interface is presented.

Very little interest in music which is fortunate as when attempted to import MP3 had the same problem as Kestrel "unhandled exception has occurred in your application....Unable to cast object of type."

My main interest is in video and was impressed by how easily it imported many different formats including video previews and slides.
Tested the effect that evens out the volume of the video and then saved it as a new file; that also worked well.

So no joy with audio alone but impressed with its video capabilities and so I'll be keeping it.

As pointed out by Fredward above, using the bottom left-hand option of add files was able to import MP3 files that failed using drag and drop.
Thanks Fredward.

Downloaded without problem and registred by itself. So far so good. I have not time to test at the moment. But I am confused about that, now, about 2 hours after "release" there are three thumbs up, six thumbs down, no comments. What is the idea with a thumb up and even more with a thumb down, without a comment? If this is not your kind of software, just leave silently and come back next day, in hope that you find something that suits you better. If you think there are problems with the software, tell it. That is the whole idea with GOTD, get a software for free and tell us the pros and coins. Could it be easier?

tens of thousands often download and try these giveaways daily, the vast majority do try and leave no vote or comment, voting thumb up is easier than voting thumb down, as thumb down votes are challenged for a reason before it is counted, so we mostly get thumb up votes unless there is something significantly bad about giveaway. But votes either way are easier than posting comments and putting your opinion out there for others to judge and ridicule or disagree with, so even less comments are posted.

Installed on Windows 10 64 bit.

When I try to use it and add a new music file I get a pop-up saying 'unhandled exception has occurred in your application....Unable to cast object of type 'Main.MusicLibraryFileHolder' to type 'EAMixer.MusicLibraryFileHolder'. If I click 'continue' the programme crashes immediately. Any ideas?

Apears to only record from one input at a time, so cannot record a vocalist and say a guitarist to two audio tracks at the same time.

"Apears to only record from one input at a time, so cannot record a vocalist and say a guitarist to two audio tracks at the same time."

That's a limitation of the audio hardware -- the easiest solution AFAIK is to use one of the USB boxes designed just for that sort of thing, though they don't always emphasize that the included software is usually a limited version that's expensive IMHO to upgrade. Or can run multiple sound cards, or a sound card & the built-in audio chipset, running a separate instance of the recording app for each. Or a lot of people don't record to a PC/laptop [where there's always some noise from the electronics] -- there are all sorts of devices to choose from, some of them surprisingly affordable... then you'd just copy the .wav files for example to your hard drive to work with.

Reply   |   Comment by mike  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

mike
It's not a limitation of the hardware when one has multiple sound devices on one machine, i.e. two Rocksmith USB cables, built in HD stereo sound input, that is potentially 4 mono inputs that are capable of simultaneous recording to 4 seperate mono tracks. I can define multiple audio devices in ASIO4ALL and record from them in real time in other multi track recorder/editors but this software only allows me to define a single input at a time and to "arm" only a single track at a time for recording.
Even if I was using just the stereo HD input in other software I can define the audio input as two mono inputs and record both mono inputs to two mono tracks at the same time. CUBASE can do it as can adobe audition.

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+6)

Hi TKI disabled that feature because it confused 99% of the users. Most people use only one input (generally microphone) at the time.
If I want the software to be able to record from multiple sources, I need to add a Input Source button to each channel. This is really confusing for the average user.

Reply   |   Comment by GF Software  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

GF Software
May I suggest you impliment a two mode user interface a simple basic single input for the easily confused and a slightly more advanced user interface that allows the user to Easily assign the configured input pins to each audio track and arm any or all of them for record at the same time.

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

TK
You're right TK. It's not that common for someone to have covered those hardware bases, as the reply from GF Software says, it's confusing for most people. ASIO itself is also pretty uncommon outside of ASIO4ALL. Cubase is what I had in mind when I mentioned the expensive software upgrade.

"May I suggest you impliment a two mode user interface..."

Would it be easier to add a 2nd instance in the same window? I've seen multi-track video editors that added a group of tracks rather than one at a time. that way the basic single input wouldn't have to change -- you'd just add another group as needed.

Reply   |   Comment by mike  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

mike
I'm not sure exactly what you mean by add a 2nd instance in same window... I cannot run two instances of the program or open two projects in one instance of the program, the minimise and restore controls in the top right corner are disabled.

CUBASE AI5 which is free to register if you can find an old OEM install CD that's not tied to a particular piece of hardware... shows the Directsound ASIO driver which is not as flexible as ASIO4ALL there may be device maker specific ASIO drivers too but again ASIO4ALL is better as it tends to talk to all sound devices on a system where the others only support their respective hardware or one device at a time.
The whole point about having realtime multi-track recording is the tracks are all synchronised to the project using multiple instances breaks that, and ASIO4ALL needs exclusive access to sound hardware so you cannot run one instance of ASIO4ALL to talk to HD input Left channel and a different ASIO4ALL instance talk to the HD input Right channel as both instances need exclusive access to the entire HD chip.
Multi-track video editors are completely different products to Multi-track audio editors.
