It works very slowly and long with 4K photo files. No time to wait such many time.

Tried and as with most similar software, it somewhat works less than 50% of old or poor quality photos. It does a decent job while enlarging &/or sharpening photos as long as the values are set around 50%.
For coloring, the AI understanding is still pretty limited. So, all colorizers fail more often than not.

Overall this is a huge disappointment. The colorization module absolutely does not work and that alone is a deal breaker. The PhotoPerfect module simply blew out all the detail in a reasonably good photo making it unusable. I assumed something developed by DVD Fab would be worth its salt but boy was I wrong.

The Colorize function is absolute useless. I'm trying several Black-white pictures - flowers, human face, iven baby photo from their site and get only specles of bright red and green colors.

Download took 4 times the time of any similar sized file..
Install also very slow..
First image (of autumn changing tree leaves) had to download another AI 'model' which took a further 10-12 minutes.
The 'Preview' rendering also took way too long - so add another 15 minutes and when I clicked 'Cancel' yet another 10 minutes.
2nd attempt changed the colours of the trees to all green, which would have been fine if it were summer..
3rd attempt, which loads more waiting worked but it deducted 3 of the 5 photos and, as the Activation process didn't work ( entered the info I was sent in the email to my address - password and email address) I'm virtually out of options..
Very disappointed.
Nick...
P.s. I'll leave it installed to see if they respond to Nick@Kastle.org (don't see any responses to other questions so far)

DVDFab Photo Enhancer AI is a large program -- the offline installer is available under downloads on the DVDFab site, at ~1.4GB, while the installed app takes up ~3.83GB. Installation isn't bad with one annoying quibble -- logs & temp files are by default in [My] Documents, which isn't the best choice if it's synced / backed up to One Drive. Every time you change a setting while working with an image in the app, until you turn it off, Win10 will display a message reminding you that files deleted in Documents will also be deleted in One Drive. The app's settings will let you change the location of log files, but that's it. OTOH Not requiring a somewhat confusing process to set up an account to register the app is Very welcome.

I did a quick test of the AI Noise Reduction on a scanned copy of an old grainy color photo [I *think* it was 400 ISO color film]. It did a great job, outperforming the one step, digital, & AI noise reduction options in PaintShop Pro 2022, & Franzis Denoise Pro -- Photoshop's Neural filters do not include noise reduction yet [it's on the wait list :( ].

I then tried the colorization -- I should have tried that 1st, since after the success of the noise removal option it was a huge disappointment. In all fairness, you can't compare the size & resources of DVDFab with Adobe, and Adobe's Colorize Neural Filter has only gotten really good after a year's + training on probably several billions of images. Still, the colorization module is one you'll want to skip.

PhotoPerfect **may** well help if the photo isn't too bad to start with, but if/when a photo needs more difficult editing, e.g. a color cast or say a faded photo with color cast, you'll need at least a good photo editing app. Likewise Sharpening can help, depending on the image -- the sharpening available in the denoise module will often likely be a better choice.

DVDFab Photo Enhancer AI's biggest limitation IMHO is that it won't open Photoshop [.psd] or RAW image files, though .tif import does mean P/shop import isn't critical. And a P/Shop compatible plugin would be ideal. All in all a definite keeper, if only for the denoise module, from a reliable company that's been around a long time.

"1 year license"

So, what happens after the 1 year? Does it stop working altogether, or just stops updating?

tomcat, I’m guessing it goes back to trial mode.

Reply   |   Comment by Sue Thompson  –  21 days ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+6)

Sue Thompson it's a comment not a question...it does strip it and I wonder why? This should be an option not the programs choice.

I've downloaded this file, however it says it is a demo version, and I only have 5 of 5 images. How do I register / authorise this software please?

Jules, the instructions are in readme.txt which is in the zip file you downloaded.

Drew, Thank You So Much! I am a dufus - didn't even think to look at the readme folder - obvious now in retrospect. Thank you for taking the time to assist me - I am very grateful!

I tested it on a virtual Windows 7 64 Pro and copied the programme folder to my desktop, a Windows 11 Home computer. Runs OK. I made a screenshot from their website and let the give-away improve it. Not to bad ...

gergn, That is awful, it's massively over sharpened it and destroyed the text.

Reply   |   Comment by JDP  –  21 days ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

JDP, are you sure? the text appears practically unchanged between the two clips the only difference I see on the right hand side is the ferns appear sharper and slight increase in gamma but nothing like the changes they claim.

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  21 days ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

JDP, I agree. It looks like it just uses a sharpen filter, and it looks like hell. The text is distorted, and the rocks on the ground have a bunch of white outline added to them.

Reply   |   Comment by FeMaster  –  21 days ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

TK, Either visit an optician or view it on a screen bigger than your phone. The text is awful. The whole thing has been obliterated by oversharpening. It's awful.

Doesn't colourise for me?

Berisford Jones, me either. Tried a sepia-ish photo and it went to b/w. Then tried the b/w version & it stayed b/w.

John H,

Well if you actually buy it then I would assume you can install it on a new computer.
