From reading the comments, it seems there are various different types of BluRay media and some come with the latest DRM that some BluRay players cannot handle.
And software developers sell lifetime license so that customers can get a lifetime of DRM updates so they can play the latest and future BluRay media.
This giveaway being a 1 year license, meaning the updates on DRM will be ither less than 1 year of up to 1 year maximum.
According to the comments here, it seems that consumers need constant DRM updates, just so that they can PLAYBACK (not copy) the BluRay media. We are not talking about DRM to prevent illegal mass copying and resale of BluRay media.
BluRay developers have shot themselves in the foot by building in too many obstacles for consumers to climb over.

Windows 8.1, fast AMD quad-core processor, 8 GB RAM: First install attempt failed, installer considered a virus (not uncommon on GAOTD items) by Norton. Overode that, tried again, success. Also registered with no issues.
On startup, it successfully upgraded itself to some newer version. All in all, the program works well, looks nice but for the author to proclaim it is the "world's best" just does not hold up. Please, authors: never claim your program is the "best in the world" - it's unverifiable and suspicious, at least to me.

This thing is awesome! Why? All other Blu-ray player programs I tried didn't have Intel QuickSync, NVIDIA CUVID (CUDA), or DXVA decoding options! DVDFab Media Player has that! I ran those other Blu-ray players on an older computer and the video playback was choppy. They didn't have other decoding options. I have put a 2012 graphics card in my old computer. Enabling NVIDIA CUVID (CUDA) mode in DVDFab fixes all video playback because it is offloading all video data from the Blu-ray onto the graphics card to deal with the decoding. My old processor can't handle Blu-ray playback very well.
DVDFab has software decoding enabled by default. It can automatically detect what hardware you have so you can select the right decoder if you are having trouble with playback. Recommended decoders:
NVIDIA CUVID (CUDA) - Use this if you have an NVIDIA graphics card and you use it as your primary display driver. I'm not sure how new it has to be but anything 2010-on should work. Make sure the drivers are up-to-date.
Intel QuickSync - Use this if you use a 3rd generation Intel processor or newer from Intel and you only use Intel HD Graphics as your primary display driver.
DXVA - Use this if you use AMD graphics cards as your primary display driver. It is a generic DirectX Video Acceleration decoder. Use can also use this if have neither NVIDIA CUDA nor Intel QuickSync available.

CORRECTION: There are NO (repeat: NO) "free" alernatives to this that play blu ray discs. NONE whatsoever. So people...enough with the totally uneducated suggestions of alternatives. Those will NOT play blu rays like this one can!
This company also makes the very popular DVD FAB ripping software which has been around for years.
If you pass on this, you are probably crazy. No, you are crazy.

You not only need dedicated software to play protected discs, you need it to play any Blu Ray discs.

Even though I followed the registration procedure, I only received a 30-Day License for the Advanced features. Program was not properly activated for a year even though the pop-up box claimed that activation was successful. Thanks.

#4: "Why to install this when there are other freebies available like VLC, GOM Player and the likes. No need for this one."
Because they do not handle the DRM on DVD & Blu-Ray discs, and out of all the players available, relatively few understand how to find & play the movie on a Blu-Ray disc. Also, with the DVDFab player & similar from companies like Leawo, a better comparison would be to the home theater & media center apps that offer a more remote friendly screen for [HD]TV viewing.
Because of their DRM capabilities these players are normally licensed for 1 year, with the higher priced option of a lifetime license. In that respect it's like security software, where you're not just paying for the software, but the continual development to make sure it does its job, since the player is expected to handle future DRM as well as what's out there today. DVDFab is more generous than other companies though, including a free year regardless of how many updates that year brings -- I've installed probably a dozen or more newer versions since the DVDFab player was on GOTD previously.
The DVDFab Player does face a lot of stiff competition, both from similar players like Leawo's, & players that license the DRM tech from the separate DVD & Blu-Ray organizations. Tang mentions PowerDVD -- perhaps a better link would be to their comparison page, since Cyberlink has 4 versions available, 3 that will play Blu-Ray. http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdvd-ultra/compare-versions_en_US.html Their cheapest Blu-Ray player is the Live version, which is subscription based [like the DVDFab & Leawo standard licenses] & priced at $45 per year.
Nero Platinum 2015 out today includes DVD & Blu-Ray playback, plus like PowerDVD 14 Ultra, includes apps & features geared to your cell or tablet. It's obviously too soon to say what Nero will sell for -- the last version was always on sale for between 50 & 100% off [free after MIR, often at Frys]. It lists for $130. Do note that Nero is not problem free, e.g. for a significant amount of time their 2014 player wouldn't work with AMD graphics hardware.

#9: "... As I remember some comments for video grabbing software some or all of these softwares generally contact their producer for every single medium to get the appropriate codec. I don’t know whether this happens with DVDFab Media Player, too...
And I would like to know whether DVDFab is the same enterprise as before DVDFab was getting in international trouble with its famous free grabbing software..."
Yes & yes.
It's more efficient to have the software call home than to constantly release updated versions -- though the software is still updated fairly often -- and it cuts down on the time it takes the player to start playing your disc, since I believe they store the DRM data for every *new* title one of their apps encounters, so while it may have taken 3-5 minutes the 1st time their software saw a title, from then on it's seconds.
The story on their trouble is that they were sued in NY by one of the companies selling a method of DRM to the Blu-Ray folks. They chose not to have a lawyer or anyone else there to defend themselves at the hearing. There was no judgement or verdict, but the judge did issue a ruling that for now forbids American companies from doing business with them & took away their .com domain. Long story short, what this all means to you is that if you have a US ip address you may have some difficulty getting their Blu-Ray copy or ripping software.

#22: "Had no problem at all with installation and activation on my Win 8.1/64 system. This is a great alternative to the horribly bloated Cyberlink software."
Depends on how you define bloat. If you mean does it take up a lot of disk space, then yes. If you mean does it have lots of effects on Windows, &/or includes lots of apps, then no.

Guys, it’s not just a media player as it can play protected Blu-rays. That’s the main feature imo.
Do we need a special media player to play "protected" BluRay movies?
Did not know that manufacturers make:
- Normal BluRay media players that play unprotected BluRay movies.
- special BluRay media players that play "protected" BluRay movies.

I used Chrome to go to the page to get my activation code, no problems encountered with entering my e-mail address, got my code, activated it, tried the player out on a Blu-Ray movie, and it played smoothly. Unlike the Leawo Blu-Ray player offered a few weeks ago, it does not drop frames and seems to work just fine on my first test. I'd be curious to find out what the 'advanced features' are that are supposed to be only good for one month, hope it still plays Blu-Rays after that. And, did anyone update to the newest version, should I?

I've been using it since the last Giveaway and it has worked well for me, except it sometimes hangs for a short time when changing/starting a movie. Hopefully this new version fixes that.

I was able to activate the software without a problem. However, looking at the license info it shows the 'basic' features for this program never expire BUT the 'advanced' features expire on November 24, 2014. I would say this is significantly shorter than a one-year license.
Since I have it loaded I will leave it for now - for testing, but will be using one of the other free alternatives mentioned earlier.

Had no problem at all with installation and activation on my Win 8.1/64 system. This is a great alternative to the horribly bloated Cyberlink software. Great feature to play image files and dvd folders.
I think a couple of people were confused about this, vs a free media manager/player. There is no (normally) free Blu Ray player software.
Glad to grab this one!

I had version 2.2.0.0 from an earlier giveaway. The license expired in November so I grabbed this giveaway, even though I have so many media players that I don't think I've ever used the old version. However, after I ran the activation thingy I checked and the new version was still due to expire in November. Uninstalled, reinstalled, ran activation thingy again and all is now well - expires 2015. So, just in case anybody else has the same issue, it's easily fixed.

PS:
- Registered is "one year full updates"
- It may be a great machine for playing BluRays. I dont have BluRays.
- I can't enjoy any of my over 25.000 video files - the sound is without one exception unbearable loud and overpitched - no matter how low I go down on loudness.
- The videos itself have a good picture.
So, I will uninstall this one ... and use BS.Player, ClassicMediaPlayer and VLC .....

A Long time I've been away but Gaotd seems like the same old. A detailed review by Karl, Ashraf seems to be missing but Giovanni seems to be dropping in now and then. Nice!!
Coming to the product itself, I find it harrowing that people spend that kind of money on a media player! I use the good old KMPlayer, which was an amazing media player. I say 'was' because of the fact that it is now a bloated piece of shit, with all the strange (unwanted) options it now has. Though the video and audio quality remain the same old brilliant quality, its too heavy on the computer. The same reason why I left VLC.
For now I have found a brilliant alternative in Daum POT Player, which is developed by the same guy who made the KMPlayer. It plays everything. HEVC, 10Bit, h264, mkv, mp4, mp3, wav, web.m, etc. So dvdfab wouldn't be that 'fab' for me. Adios!
Save | Cancel
This is a keeper just cuz of the HEVC [h.265] support. Though h.265 is technically brilliant its still gonna take some time before the present devices we have adapt to that technology. The devices we currently have are too weak to handle the kind of power h.265 has. Hope this works. Cheers to optimism...

I like DVDFab. The reason to download this product is simple: It gives a better blue-ray resolution than many other players. Some other free players can play alright, but do not look quite as good, or stutter or pause. DVDFab has a free product too, but this is their "pro" version. (If you miss this giveawy, go get the free version from them anyway. Even without the extra pro features their product is better than others. Provided, of course, that you want to watch HD or UHD products on your computer, or use your computer as a player for your 60 inch monitor.)
:)
They have some other free products that are well worth seeing too. In particular, check out their decrypter. It is the best of its kind.
I had the same issue with "White on white" when trying to register. Ctrl-A selects everything and you can see the fields temporarily. Select the first dot for Mac, the second for Windows, and above the dots there is an (invisible) field for your email.
I was able to get my email address entered despite the white-on-white, and got my registration, which, when you double click on it, gets entered into the product. There is a menu button in the product, with "License Info". If all goes well, there will be a free version and a Giveaway of the Day version activated.
Hopefully they will fix the white-on-white screen before the give-away is over.

@DVDFab + everybody
If any blueray or 4K medium has a newer encryption method than actual version I think that this software has to contact its producer for updates. So this one year license probably is really a one year license for later media. As I remember some comments for video grabbing software some or all of these softwares generally contact their producer for every single medium to get the appropriate codec. I don't know whether this happens with DVDFab Media Player, too.
Perhaps DVDFab could enlighten us.
And I would like to know whether DVDFab is the same enterprise as before DVDFab was getting in international trouble with its famous free grabbing software - sorry, I can't remember the name as I never used it. But I remember that there has been some ten years ago a famous CD grabber whose (unprotected!!!) name was usurped (after new copyright protection laws in a lot of countries) by somebody else who now sells some freeware based other product under the same name. In this case I remember the name but I won't name it as I don't like trouble - it's second hand information.

A Chinese company from Bejing with address&phone Fengtao Software Inc., founded in Aug, 2003, been developed for more than 10 years, is a software producer who keeps going forward and aims to be world class with its powerful and professional DVD/Blu-ray/Video software and best services.
Keep in mind, that this is a one years license! I think, this means free updates during this year. Am I right???
A elegant black interface opens, you select your disk or your Video folder. You choose either the video files, the folder or the disk.
The interface is intuitive and easy to use. Three different skins to choose, hardware acceleration for VC-1, H264 and MPEG-2 codecs: software, DXVA and Intel Quick Sync. Selectable region code for BlueRay.
Disable the "Check for Updates".
One of the many players, one of the good ones. You will have no problems playing your media files in the next year.
Uninstalled via reboot. I still do not collect media players.

Then you'll see what the two dots are for. One is for selecting mac the other for selecting windows.
Then you put in your email address, but there is no button to press to continue or enter input.
HOWEVER what does work is the buy now button for a lifetime license.
