Gang, I think you're missing the point. Dumo (and Sumo) do not download and install updates for you. They merely tell you if they are available. It's up to you whether you install them or not. After downloading Sumo Pro from GOTD several weeks ago, I found it to be exactly what I was looking for. It has an option NOT to run automatically on startup and can use Dumo as an extension. I am all over this Dumo Pro offering and thank KCSoftwares for making it available.

PS: Once I know a desired update is available I want to decide where I get it from, preferably from the application designer or computer manufacturer.

It takes you to the landing page of the companies websites......really? Who would buy this junk. Glad I have a program that downloads and installs updates for me while creating a restore point. I thought maybe this would be better, but no way! Sorry.

I use IObit Driver Booster which was offered here some time ago. It runs in the background and when it finds an outdated driver, it automatically downloads the latest driver and installs it. It creates a restore point before the installation so that if there is a problem with the updated driver the previous driver can be restored by the program with almost no effort. I have never had an incorrect or problem driver installed by IObit Driver Booster after hundreds of updates. If a driver has to be reverted to the previously installed driver, the program can do it effortlessly. You don't have to be a computer guru to keep your drivers up to date with IObit Driver Booster.

I have no affiliation with IObit or any other computer related company. Because I know nothing about finding or choosing the correct drivers for my computer, I would not use a program like Dumo-Pro, even though it is free, because I do not have the knowledge or ability to identify the correct driver needed for an update or do the required research successfully if directed to the manufacturer's site, which is where Dumo sends you when it believes a driver needs to be updated.

I am happy with a program like IObit's that does everything for me! If I ever find or even hear of one that is better than IObit's, I would definitely try it . . . but Dumo is a "do it yourself" program that only a computer programmer could love.

Just my humble opinion derived from the "school of hard luck."

Susan, I dont like to let run programs on the background when it is not really necessary (and driver update is not a critical task)... Thanks.
This program seems to be better but i have no experience wit it. maybe Jerry´s comment bellow can help more.

I have been using DUMo and SUMo for a while now. I only run them occasionally to check if there are updates available.
I have other software obtained from GAOTD that also checks for driver updates but DUMo is my preferred option. In my experience all of these types of programmes will give false positives. They all seem to just check if there is a driver with a higher version number without checking for compatibility so I only use the results as a guide.
Other programmes I have used have automatically made changes without consent, ignoring the settings I had chosen. DUMo hasn't so I feel safer using this. I prefer to download updates from the official site or via Windows Update.

You know don't you that Windows has a built in driver checker/updater, correct? Its called Device Manager and will do anything this does for free and as mentioned...… its baked in.

Reply   |   Comment by Alan  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Alan , no it won't. Microsoft does not have drivers for all devices and the drivers it does have, are often out of date or generic drivers, which don't have the same functionality as the drivers from the manufacturer. Also, in rare cases, the drivers provided from Microsoft will be problematic.

Not that there's anything with just using Windows to update drivers, as you often don't need the very latest drivers. But, there are times when using Driver Manager/Windows Update will not be able to install working drivers for all of your devices.

Hadrianus, more often than not, they won't you know. Some PC manufacturers (certainly not all), include update software on their computers, that will check for driver and BIOS updates. This is good in theory, but there is a big problem. Most PC makers, only provide driver updates for around 6 months or so, after they release a computer. After that, even though there will still be more recent drivers available, the PC manufacturer will not provide them. To get newer drivers after that, you will need to either visit the websites of the manufacturer of the manufacturers of the devices you want to update, or use third party driver update software. Also, often, the pre-installed update software, won't even find all the driver updates, available to download from the support web page for your computer.

On some computers, I've done a clean install of Windows and then installed the manufacturer's driver update software and it has found no updates and hasn't even found the needed drivers for devices that, Windows failed to find and install, drivers for.

I downloaded this early this morning ( real early )...I ran the program and thought this would retrieve the driver for me, but NOPE, it took me to the driver website, then I had to find and download the driver myself ( Major Turn-off ) Strike 1
Then after that the driver wasn't even an update like the program said it was, even after dl'ing the driver(s) my system would warn me that the driver I already had was newer than the one on the driver page, Program SUCKS !

Kyle DUMo developper,

Actually, I thank you for the offer to do so, but in this case, I will respectfully decline your offer. I'm not the smartest guy on planet earth as far as computers go, But I can update drivers, ( even know how to access their website support pages ) I just thought this program would make it just - a - tad bit easier, but it doesn't, So with that being said, Thank you, but NO thank you !

I agree with most of comments, this is worthless. Downloaded and installed, took me to intel page where I installed their driver program, told me no new drivers needed. Uninstalled

Description is deceptive, gives the impression that finds outdated driver and updates them, it doesn't all this does is direct you to Google .... You'd be a read Dumo if you bought this worthless piece of software. The quality of software offered on GOTD has seriously declined in recent months.

Kyle DUMo developper, Maybe you could explain to everyone here why they would pay for software that only detects outdated drivers but doesn't update them, all your software does is link them to google to search out the correct driver for themselves. Not a very practical solution, especially for the people who do not fully understand the importance of having the correct drivers. Moreover, most hardware manufacturers usually supply a link to check that you have current drivers ... So what's the point of this software?

Scam, I did try it and I even went to Intel for those specific drivers, none exists nor Intel has any in the pipeline for the future issuance of those drivers.

Это шутка?
Я и без этой программы могу знать, что обновить.
И найти все драйверы
Отправляет по некоторым на Intel, но там не удалось зарегистрироваться.
О том же пишет и коллега
This is stupid!!
All it does is tell me I need some updates. I already knew that or I would not have downloaded the program. All it does is send me to google to find a driver.
Who needs software to do that?? I can find Google all by myself.
Wasted my time.

As with Sumo when it was here you can download the Portable version from their homepage small yellow icon under the download section and use the key info in the readme file to activate it = you have a fully portable Dumo to take with you.

Plenty times it shows "available" updates, but there are none or they "exist" only via Dumo-Database, which doesn't offer you the link to it or it just makes version-numbers up etc.pp.

Sumo has the same issues, but for apps.

Driver-Booster is better, but not perfect either.

Just go to => https://www.necacom.net/ <= and do it yourself or go to => https://forums.mydigitallife.net/ <= and you might find the right section, where other mates keep you up2date.

PS:

It's sad, that DUMO and SUMO are not living up to my / our expectations, because I would buy them both.

:/

Kyle DUMo developper,

Yeah, why not, if it's possible.

Here are some actual examples from tonight, but it still should give you an idea, what I mean:

https://imageshack.com/a/img921/6846/TrR4tx.jpg

https://imageshack.com/a/img921/7515/vleGVX.jpg
https://imageshack.com/a/img923/2476/lNpmZj.jpg

That's pretty much across the board like this and I'm sorry to say that, but it's easier and faster for me to just go to necacom or use a product from a competitor.

I'm not sure, if I still have somewhere a working full version of Sumo, to be able to show you it's issues as well.

Best Regards

Andreas Szallis

I've downloaded installed and activated with no hustle, immediately showed apps which are up to date as well as outdated software, and left choice to me to either update them or leave, I take this in positive side as there some apps which I do not want automatic update, there some apps I got from GOTD once updated they loose their activation and become trial vers.

Reply   |   Comment by muhozah  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

muhozah,
This is a driver updater program, not a software updater program, DUMo, not SUMo their sister program. Therefore programs downloaded from this site are not affected in any way.

Reply   |   Comment by Nigel  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+24)

TK,
I wasn't endorsing the program, ( I personally use DRIVER EASY). I was just pointing out to "muhozah" that this program does NOT indicate out of date "Apps" or "Software" as he claimed, ONLY Drivers.

As an added point, as Windows 10 is forever "upgrading" then I personally feel that drivers need to be updated too in order to keep current with the system.

Michael Askey must be kidding--Driver Booster is a scam program that misses updates yet charges ten bucks every month to milk you dry

Reply   |   Comment by lollyman  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+16)

lollyman, Driver Booster is not a scam. The free version, usually finds just as many driver updates as the paid version does. If you want to use the paid Pro version, 1 year licenses are regularly available as a giveaway on various giveaway sites, so you never need to spend any money.

No driver update software, will find all updates. Results will vary from one program to the next, but I've yet to find driver update software, that will always find drivers for devices with missing drivers, after doing a clean install of Windows. Driver Booster, does a reasonable job at finding updates, but generally Wise Driver Care and DriverHub, to give some examples will find more. On the plus side, it is very rare for Driver Booster to offer incompatible drivers, which is something a lot of other driver update software has issues with. Also, to be fair, its database of drivers, has been increasing over time. I remember that the first release of Driver Booster, has a very limited database of drivers.

Don't bother, it's useless. When you click on an item all it does is it takes you to the manufacturer's site and not to the download. Driver Booster is much better as it does all the work for you.

Just shows devices to update, you have to search drivers manually. Pointless.
