The HP bluetooth drivers BTW.MSI in this driver http://driverdown.drivethelife.com/238198eb134d7665c5027dcf1a394c81/60677c46/7/3F/FA/HP_MEDIA_6.2_None_28034.7z

hosted on the vendors server is malicious about two thirds the way through it starts enumerating all the files and folders on the system drive and deletes them. I watched it doing it after restoring to a known clean and good Vista system. Virustotal detects nothing. Whether this is an intentional malicious act or an insainly badly written MSI script I cannot tell but it is a bad driver and should be removed from their server ASAP... Just ending msiexec.exe process did not stop the damage from occouring it just respawend and continued. I had to End Process Tree to stop the deletions. Another 9 or 10 hours restoring my system AGAIN ahead of me. Thanks OSTOTO! Drivers should remain in their digitally signed executable packages and never extracted and put in 7z archives to save a little space the files are easily modifiable for malicious purposes once they are removed from their digitally signed executable wrappers.

I have not been able to successfully play a DVD in my machine for about seven months. No matter the player, the screen would come up lime green with audio.

One scan with this, it identified the video problem, about five minutes later it said the issue was fived. To vet, I popped my Star Trek DVD in...and it played flawlessly in glorious 1080.

This is a keeper regardless of the haters. Five Stars.

Robert Blake, be aware this sends ALOT of data back to their servers as well as POSTing unknown data to a 3rd party server that constantly responds 401 authorisation required. Which may sound like not a problem but the POST was received by the server that rejected it and could still be used in some way. The amount of unexplained unconventional background communication this performs with theirs and others servers is very concerning especially considering the potentially malicious mass deletion of folders completely unrelated to any driver or part of the windows or any installed program. ( I am beginning to suspect they are hosting maliciously modified drivers since they repackage what are normally digitally signed executable packages in simple .7z archives meaning modified MSI files could be inserted into the driver packages to perform any action with TrustedInstaller super rights)

Congratulations you had a problem with a bad video driver and the video driver this supplied corrected the video overlay problem but that does not make repackaging drivers in unsigned .7z archives a good thing.

Oh dear, now restoring my Vista machine from winpe bootable aomei backup image file... this offered three different drivers for unknown Bluetooth peripheral entries... the Bluetooth adaptor is a Broadcom chip... first repair option offered was an Atheros Bluetooth driver package.... next repair solution turned out to be an Intel Bluetooth driver package and final repair was a Broadcom Bluetooth driver package... the options offered got windows vista so confused and messed up the process trashed the NTFS file system and a 920 GByte C: drive with around 110GByte free ended up with 720GByte free with vast swathes of folders vanishing from the drive. Fortunately I had a full system drive backup from a couple of weeks ago and will be restoring from that. Oddly I do not think I'll be re-installing todays giveaway. Be careful with this one, it plays fast and loose with Vendor and Device ID offering Bluetooth packages from different chip makers than have ever been part of the system. You'd be sensible to have a bootable backup image solution when playing with this one.

Does this program allow you to download all drivers or, like some other driver programs, does it show all drivers, but restricts you from getting some of them unless you upgrade to paid/pro version? Thanks everyone.

I struggled with the new procedure to get a key (almost thought it was still April Fool). I finally received the key from my email address, loaded the app, clicked on 'Activation', entered the key & email and then got this message “Activation failed! Please check your network!” My network is working (note this comment via the Internet), but I don't understand this built-in entanglement.
What to do, anyone? Spec ... Win 10, 64x, 16 GB, 1TB, Wi-Fi connection in working order.

As said before if it ain't broke..so i don't want to update 3 drivers it found , but i did want to update the bios because mine is 1 date before the bios update that allowed me to upgrade to windows 10 . unfortunately this program did not find the newer bios driver , i know it's there cos it's on P.B website. so i will have to upgrade it by hand

Reply   |   Comment by Das  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

Das, a BIOS file is not a driver and often requires special installation procedures.

I don't think any driver update utility offers BIOS updates.

Reply   |   Comment by dd  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+11)

dd, technically the systems BIOS is the most fundamental of drivers. Basic Input Output System, was used by CP/M in its various forms and MS-DOS/IBM-DOS as well as 16-bit versions of windows to access the bulk storage and console devices as well as pre-configure the chipsets. Not so much used by 32bit and 64bit Windows nowadays but it is still used to provide initial booting and control of built in hardware features.

Yesterday, I took an old hdd with windows 7 on it and put it into a newer HP computer to see if I could get it to work.
The hdd was not from an HP so I had to load all new drivers.
I could NOT get the network drive that HP said was for this computer, to work, and gave up and used a wireless usb.
Today, I used this driver program and it flawlessly found and installed a correct network driver.
Worked great, doesn't get better than that!

Lluis Serran,
I don't understand the problem

When you open the page from the link in the Read Me file, your name and email address should be in the relevant boxes. If not, enter the information, tick the box that you are not a robot, and the code will be sent to your email address. You simply copy it from the email, and enter it, with your email address, into the activation window.

Derek, certain email configurations just won't work. e.g. Yahoo always puts giveaway emails into its own SPAM folder on its web/imap folders and so does not offer them to a POP3 email client. I am sure there are other combinations that can also fail in a similar way... plenty of reasons for the problem!

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

TK,

I appreciate your problem - simple answer would be to use a different provider, like BT or similar when requiring access to downloaded activation codes etc.

Sort of reluctant to trust this one?

First problem, it does find my LAN printer but it isn't correct. Rather than HP ENVY PHOTO 7855 it is called HP ETHERNET MULTI_ENVIRONMENT. No, it is a wireless printer connected to my router and hence the LAN without a cable connection. Searching for it to be better identified, it isn't a choice.

Looking at the ones it wanted to replace, one device was 'Unknown Device', yet under it, Bluetooth headset? It is identified. I did a pulldown on the driver it wanted to install, and there are 3. It selected the newest. When on, the headset works fine.

It said my Ethernet Network Adapter was out of date, again, working fine. Also on the pulldown, a variety of versions, and some were Ver. 8 and some Ver. 10, intermixed by date. Didn't give me confidence as it seems it went solely by date if the order is correct.

Also, Chipsets should be updated. No, I don't think so as this is a Dell and they provide chipsets s/w that might be altered for the h/w.

I'm deleting it.

You can use the program to identify which drivers need updating and then update yourself manually by going to the website.

dd, You misunderstand the licence key can only be used to activate ONCE. Download/install on a another PC and input licence code and get message, "This code has been used up." You receive the same licence code for different downloads. Sorry.

Derek, I didn't get a 'read me' . when I downloaded it , it just went straight to a zipfile and installed from there - normally I do download them to desktop no problem, but in this case all I got was the application installing straight from the download. not had that before, hence the question

Reply   |   Comment by Lindsay Mclaughlin  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Derek, all I got is instead of the usual 'setup' and read me was a WinZip folder which installed the unregistered copy and nothing else.

I was always told, If it aint broke, dont fix it.

Reply   |   Comment by Maureen  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+44)

Maureen, I was told the same, however, with drivers, you must keep them up-to-date. They fix bugs, that my allow others to access your computer

Reply   |   Comment by Andy Bell  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-17)

Andy Bell, and new drivers may introduce NEW BUGS as newer features are added. IF it aint broke, don't fix it. Only reasons to update a driver is if its an public facing device with a security flaw that the driver fixes e.g. bluetooth or wifi drivers... OR if you have an exposed BUG (it's broke) then when possible fix it. unless you need support for newer technologies like OGL upgrades to permit some game to run...

Automatic updates are not a good way to go. Have had cases in the past where the system has been disabled due to wrong driver being installed.

Reply   |   Comment by william kelso  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+77)

william kelso, I agree with you, but the program does give you the option to update individual drivers. I downloaded it and ran it, to find out.

Reply   |   Comment by Rick_S  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+13)

william kelso, Automatic pushed driver updates, especially via windows updates too, can and do break certain devices. Where the pushed generic driver is given priority over a signed specialised driver for a given piece of hardware where the software requires the specialist driver and cannot work with a generic driver pushed by windows update based upon vendor and device id alone.
I had to disable Windows 10 windows update pushed driver updates in group policy to maintain certain devices and software functionality.
