I've tried to use this several times after a successful install. I go into the program, click all the drives to backup, and click "Backup" - it then clears the selections and tells me to select the ones to be backed up again... what gives? This is Windows 10 Home/64. The "About" info in the program confirms its properly registered....

Puzzled -
Mark

That's great and all but.. where is the registration key? I unzipped activate.exe and.. when it opens up, it says I have to register it. How can I when the key is nowhere to be found?

This program Driver Magician 4.8 downloads Win 7-Win-8 & 8.1, & Win 10 drivers all at once.
I had 3 updates on this computer, using Win 7x64 tonight. 2 network drivers, and it also downloaded an Intel Mobile Chipset Processor to handle new or updated Intel drivers. I wont install this until I check Intel's site for the version of new drivers against the one I downloaded. Quick Downloads. Slower backup of all drivers, in case my system has to be re-installed. Not Bad. Thanks Gold Solution Software and GOTD.

You can't go online to download drivers from a clean install, if you your Ethernet adapter uses non-Microsoft drivers, until they are installed. The ones you had installed before are probably later than the ones on your disk, if you can find it and it isn't useless.
If repairing an existing windows XP system from disk and you have installed service versions later than those on your original setup disk you will be asked to insert disk with SP1,2 or 3 as the case may be. Do you have these? You can't go on line until you finish.
Will someone tell me if one needs to back up either all the files in program files in system+system32 etc or those in system/hardware manager/drivers. On my 32bit XP it doesn't include all in either case. What is it supposed to back up? Finally My activated version doesn't produce a self installing EXE file, so it would seem you have to buy the program yo reinstall after formatting the disk

I too was going to ask -
After a re-install of windows, do you have to buy the program, to be able to install the backed up drivers ?

Goodbye Magician!

I update the drivers in the 'Update drivers' screen. It downloads the new driver & I install it. I then reboot the computer but when I check for drivers to update all the same ones appear again to be updated?

How to improve Driver Magician (since I'm having trouble entering my suggestion at the top of the webpage, it quits accepting characters typed)

When you select the folder for driver backup, have a button to create a New Folder.

Some things to like: It works even with older versions of Windows, so I could install those in my computer for running older applications if I want to and hopefully get appropriate drivers. Also, I like the idea of collecting my drivers into an executable for future re-installation of drivers that I know work. Finally, the price is very reasonable. If the program works as I hope, then I might buy it. One question, are registered paid users able to use the version they buy indefinitely, or do they have to keep paying and getting new versions? Do they get free upgrades within the version (such as 4.x, for example since we're talking about version 4.8 here.)

This is really good software, but like all software that works directly with the operating system, you have to know what you are doing. And even if you do know what you are doing, you have to be careful. Always back up your drivers before doing anything else. All the advice listed by others is true. Heed it, and you will be okay.

All that being said, I love this software. I have been using the previous GOTD version for a long time. I'm thrilled to get an update here. Thank you developers and GOTD!

I'm so mad I can't get it today for my laptop ... because it isn't plugged in and turned on back home. Rats.

Must be careful w/laptop. This program identified 14 intel driver upgrades. I then went to intel and ran their driver update program... zero updates offered, with the warning that laptop had custom drivers to OEM spec.

This is very dangerous program if used by novice. If you are not having known problems, do not update your drivers. If you have blue screens, go to OEM sites for driver upgrades, otherwise you may make things so much worse. Pardon my english it is not my first language.

Thanks to GoldSolutions and GOTD. This software is good. Provided you use it properly.
Whe you start to run the software, it will pop up a window.
[DriverMagician
Drivers Update database hasn't been updated for more than 15 days, do you want to update it now?
Yes ........No]

Always click NO in response to this window. It is a trick. Don't fall for it.
Once you click on it, it will contact the software website server.
If many months later, you do this...somehow the software becomes a TRIAL.
This happened to me more than once and I learned it the hard way.
Maybe the web server send s a code to deactivate your software.
Remember this and you will be OK.
In addition, (for me at least)....
NEVER click on [Update Drivers]
NEVER click on [Uninstall Drivers]
NEVER NEVER NEVER click on [LiveUpdate]
How to update drivers?
Go to main menu.
Click Leftmost item [Driver Backup]
Choose [Search All Drivers]

Click on Options to choose:
Driver Backup

(•) Back up drivers to folders
( ) Back up drivers to a compressed file (.zip)
( ) Back up drivers to a self-extractor (.exe)
( ) Back up drivers to an auto-setup package (.exe)
Compression level [ Medium]

Then on main window
Click [Select All]
Click [Start Backup]
Pop window appear - you select the folder you wish to save backup of drivers to
Once you choose the folder, the driver backup starts without asking you anymore questions.

(Why do you want to backup all drivers? Because even Windows drivers can be damaged by rogue malware. Then you don't want to search high and low for the very specific Windows driver that worked for your particular system/OS. )

@ric,
I clicked Update Drivers Live Update after checking the readme sheet with the install instructions. It said "No free updates to future versions". So I didn't click Update, just the second update; Update Drivers Live Update. The program updated like crazy. Then I checked my drivers. It is still registered to GOTD
and seems to work perfectly. Had I seen your remarks before hand, I might not have done this, but all is OK. I wouldn't want to download old drivers. Had enough bad luck through Driver Booster.

Since drivers are updated regularly I wonder what use backing them up is? When I do a new install 90% of the drivers have updated so I have to download them anyway. Just a waste of disk space?

Reply   |   Comment by Jack  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-3)

Backing them up is good just incase the ones you just updated don't work or have some negative effect on your computer. Sometimes other devices you have installed on your computer may not be compatible with the driver update and so you need to revert back to the old one.

Be careful! I have Win10 x64, and this version use correctly, but:
- in my laptop have AMD Mobility HD 4500 series graphic card
- Update driver function found new driver: 15.7.1 for this.
What? On AMD website hasn't this, because AMD no support this card under Win10, said: download from Windows Update only. Driver version from WU is: 8.970.100.9001 (Date: 2015.01.13.)

Before driver update you check manufacturer site, and do not install not correct driver for your PC!

Reply   |   Comment by Mykee  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+36)

You are not correct. I just checked the AMD website and it says the same thing the software says that the driver 15.7.1 And you are wrong. It does not say that AMD does not support your card under Win10. What it actually says is

AMD Radeon™ HD 8000 Series (HD 8400 and below), Radeon™ HD 7000 Series (HD 7600 and below), Radeon™ HD 6000 Series, and Radeon™ HD 5000 Series Graphics products have reached peak performance optimization as of November 24th, 2015.
These products have been moved to a legacy support model and no additional driver releases are planned. This change enables us to dedicate valuable engineering resources to developing new features and enhancements for graphics products based on the GCN Architecture.

So this software actually did work. You should make sure to really research to make sure you know what you are talking about because people read these reviews. You slandered software when in fact it was you who was not correct. And you suggest people check the manufacturer site which I agree with, but you should learn how to check the site yourself before telling other people to do it. Here is the link to your driver btw. Yours is out of date.

Bernice, where in your reply does AMD say anything about a driver for 4500 series card? It appears newer drivers are supported but not this one. At AMD site, when I search manually, then pick notebook, radion HD series, then Mobility HD 4xxx series, the next dropdown does not offer a choice for Win 10. Only goes up to Windows 8. So, nice slam an Mykee but it wasn't called for. You are the mistaken one.

I have tried several driver update programs & not one has been 100% correct on identifying proper updates yet. I still find them useful as a tool to stay up to date (but will check manufactures website before installing). In the case of AMD I have noticed similar issues with misidentifying the proper drivers for "legacy hardware" in DriverBooster & Driver Magician. The latest driver that will work for HD4xxx series in Windows 10 (yes, it says Windows 8.1 but works fine in Win10) is 13.1 or 13.4 beta.

Here is AMD site for 2000, 3000, 4000 series card support:
http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/Driver-Support-for-AMD-Radeon%E2%84%A2-HD-4000%2c-HD-3000%2c-HD-2000-and-older-Series.aspx

"The last operating system supported using the AMD drivers was Microsoft Windows® 8 with the AMD Catalyst 13.1 driver package, which can be downloaded from the AMD Driver page : http://support.amd.com/en-us/download
Driver support for these products under Windows® 8.1 and Windows® 10 is only available via Windows Update. Please enable Windows Update to allow it to automatically detect and install display driver version 8.970.100.9001"

Ok, 13.1 and 13.4 beta will working under Win 8.1 and maybe Win10, but this is little risk. But 15.7.1 not include driver for HD 4500 card.

Windows 10 support was adding in 4.7, so yes it are supported both for 32 & 64 bit.

but it has twice installed bad drivers on my Medion workstation, so that features stop working like (Bluetooth Mouse) & TV Card.

So I will stick with Driver Booster

Like YOU (gpj at mailme.dk), I too have a Medion computer and normally I rely solely on the drivers they list on their own Medion Support Pages, but sadly, they don't update those drivers very often. HOWEVER there is at least one driver update provider on the interwebs (titled: DriverPack Solution URL: [http://drp.su/]) that appears to find Drivers that are ONLY Suitable for your particular computers hardware (or Notebook) and other software.

Well, compared to DRIVERMAX it could find just a few precentage of outdated drivers in my dummy machine (just 8 out of 25)...and I wonder why!

So it's a good software but in my view it's also pretty much overrated but if you use their BETA version you can enjoy the same functionalities as the PRo version for FREE b(but hey...pssssss this is a secret between me and you....LOL!).

BEST FREE ALTERNATIVES

The first thing to do in order to keep your PC in perfect shape is actually to update its INTEL drivers:

http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect
http://www.intel.com/support/oems.htm

Most important, besides Intel drivers, are also the VIDEO drivers:

http://www.geforce.com/drivers

And if you are a frantic PC GAMER:

http://www.razerzone.com/gamebooster
http://www.geforce.com/drivers/geforce-experience

Then, for the other remaining DRIVERS, best thing to do is to visit your PC manufacturer website and then download all of the right drivers there, according to the model and OS of your PC!!!

For instance, ACER users like me can go here to update the drivers of their machine:

http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers

And as final touch you may also use FREE driver updaters…

The most accurate one I found so far is DRIVERMAX, by Innovative Solutions: the only problem is that you need a PREMIUM (==> $$$) account to update ALL your outdated drivers, otherwise you can update only 2 drivers a day, which is better than nothing of course!

http://www.drivermax.com

Other excellent FREE tools are also these:

* Driver Easy
http://www.drivereasy.com

But if you don’t want to install anything, well no problem.

http://drivereasy.com/scannow

* (Portable) DUMO
http://www.kcsoftwares.com/?dumo

* (Portable) Driver Identifier
http://driveridentifier.com

* MaConfig
http://www.ma-config.com/en/detectoffline

* Slim Drivers
https://www.slimwareutilities.com/slimdrivers.php

There’s also an amazing FREE Russian app which automates the process of finding, installing and backing up the right updated drivers of your system with an unique and pretty infallible approach. The only problem is that it comes with an ISO file of 4GB in size.

My 2 cents for today's giveaway! ^_^

Doesn't seem to support Windows 10 x64.
Does it? Will it? If it "will" - will we get that update or are we SOL?
Thanks

sorry - maybe I was confused by the programs wording... what lead me to assume Windows 10 was not supported was when I checked for driver updates I got the following message: "There is no driver update information for your PC in Windows 10 x64, please run it later" - which would be a little less confusing if it read something like "no newer driver updates were found for your Windows 10 x64 system - please check again at a later date."

Anyway - Thanks for the follow up to my Q!
