CAUTION: If ioBot Driver Booster reports that you have a lot of drivers to update, you might want to try just a few at a a time to avoid an obstacle I encountered using this program.
I was in the process of setting up a Window 7 Pro desktop using a new ASUS Maximus Extreme VIII motherboard. The initial install had completed, and I had already activated Windows. I was having trouble with other parts of the hardware and the associated drivers that came with the motherboard. I had not got to the point of having a disk image restoration set up yet due to the ASUS Cold Boot Bug. The system would fail to fully boot, hanging at the "Enter UEFI" screen. After leaving the system off for several weeks, it would finally boot into Windows. On one of these times, ioBit Driver Booster was being offered. After having read pretty good reviews on GOTD, I decided to give it a shot. What did I have to lose? Even if it did replace any drivers I still had the original CD, and plus I could back up all my drivers first using Driver Booster. I was surprised to see that ioBit Driver Booster had a huge list of outdated drivers to replace. I decided to let it update all of them. Sure enough, the machine booted up but what I had not expected was that Windows wanted to be activated again, probably due to so many changes at once. No matter what I did to undo what Driver Booster had done, the need to re-activate Windows remained. Finally, with no other choice, I activated Windows again. Microsoft allows 3 activations total before they start to get really suspicious, so if you do not want to lost another of those precious Microsoft activations, keep this possibility in mind.

I've been using this one for years now. Both the free version AND the paid/Pro version are excellent. Honestly, I've used both and never felt the need to buy a license, but that's up to each user and their needs. The software is consistent, stable, has a nice interface, and doesn't require "expertise" to use. I'm a computer junkie who's tried MANY such products, and I think you'll enjoy this software. Their database of available drivers is indeed extensive. Once in a blue moon, they mis-identify my chipset, but it's no issue in my experience. Even if you don't want to pay after the 6-month license period, you'll still be able to use the freebie and I can almost guarantee you'll be happy. If anyone disagrees, feel free to respond/comment. Enjoy! :o)

I like it, and update only ONE THING AT A TIME between reboots and restore points.

It's got a nice software list to update, including "game" components like Adobe and Microsoft run-times.

I also like the cleaning of ghost devices that have been uninstalled, and the fix errors which has occasionally actually worked for me.

the downloaded installer is NOT useful outside the program, that is, it does not go to Dell and get Dell executables, you'd have to do that yourself for your vendor and serial number and operating system.
__________

Remember, though, that it's IObit, so:

-- at license expiration, the pro reverts to the free version with a few features turned off,

-- if any licensee fails to register in newer versions, reinstall the older version, register, then update, and the license may convey,

-- it installs background programs, task schedules, find and turn them off with free Microsoft SysInternals AutoRuns, and reboot ( after each run of any IObit program ),

-- do not let it auto do it's entire sweep of updating everything, even if you have a restore point, unless you are brave, experienced, or lucky ... instead, intentionally and aware, select one item at a time, and look it up and understand your choices before proceeding.
.

This program is probably one of the best if not the best Driver updater out there.
I discovered this program about a month ago after trying different driver updating software. Driver Booster was the only one to find a suitable graphics driver for my pc that actually doesn't cause my mouse to pause every 2 seconds when using it.
I'll give this product a 9/10 (A 9 is the highest I ever rate something)

W7 64 bit machine.
Well dspite al the negs i decided to go ahead and ran this program (once I 'd fuigured how/where to insert the reg code), and it spent a while updating my drivers and just left 12 Game updates which for now, i chose to ignore as I dont do games

Held my breath and rebooted, and now I can insert an SD card into the slot on my PC and it reads it, whereas that function had stopped unexpectedly about 9 mths back......... SO.. I am pleased with it.
It came up trumps for me. Thanks IObit and GAOTD.

Buried under Tools->Rescue Center->Change Backup Folder->Cancel->Network you can find the setting for switching from automatic update of the product to "Notify me when updates are available"
As by default it is set to automatic update, you may want to change that to avoid losing your pro version.

[ Can't trust ], what "worse" do you have now?

It just updated one finicky computer just fine for me, stabilized, and has eliminated memory error blue screens -- and it updated 19 drivers, most of which probably are trivial, but it did find the one that even the vendor said was not needed to be updated.

CAN trust IObit ... and free Microsoft SysInternals AutoRuns to clean up after any IObit program run.

Works for me.

This is without a doubt the best program of this type I have ever used. Maybe I was lucky. I don't know. But it sure did a 'magnificent' job of updating ALL of my outdated drivers. No conflicts. No problems seen in 'Device Manager' No problems at all infact, unlike other programs I have used in the past that have claimed to do the same thing. My pc even has a more stable feel now.. Very impressed.

I had a win 7 x32 laptop that I had worked on and restored. The device drivers didn't work well and windows didn't want to help. To find them each from the manufacturer would have been quite time-consuming. This program found 88 of the drivers needed. Beware it tries to install 2 programs that have little to nothing to do with the Give a way of the day. Worked well for my intended purpose, too bad it is not a portable app that could be installed on a flash and used on many computers. Read the ReadMe.txt it provides directions and the key that is needed.

[ Bélavári János ],

ALL IObit programs free-version and pro-version are the same.

You have to [ Activate ] the pro features with the code from the readme.txt file.

When the pro version eventually expires, it will revert to the free version with some auto features turned off.

Bélavári János, the download is the same for both. You turn it in to Pro by entering the CODE that you will find in the readme.txt file that was right above the installation file after you extracted the zip file. You know, the one you didn't READ, well read it & your problem will be solved. Have a great day & enjoy the excellent software.

Eli Bloomenson, I don't understand where my original answer went to János Bélavári, and why did Eli Bloomenson redefine it here? Perhaps the problem is that I dare to respond to my Hungarian fellow Hungarian in our own language? I didn't see the meaning of turning back and forth when both of us speak Hungarian and my answer was only for him, so why not write in our common language? So I find it somewhat offensive that someone arbitrarily deletes my answer and rewrites the response to his own name. Sorry, but where is it written that two Hungarians can't talk to each other in their own language? English-speaking people can also translate into their own language if they want to translate English as well as ours.

The driver drivel is over rated. You think MSFT, Intel, AMD, nvidia and many many more do not know their hardware and you need to update to some unknown drivers?
There got to be reason for update, if you insert unknown driver, it will not make the system faster, it is all about synchronization, what is the point one driver to be fast, but needs to go through the system drivers to reach its destination.
I have never found a drive to be faster than the original manufacturer's drivers.

Reply   |   Comment by Mark  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+12)

Mark,

The way it works is that the OS [e.g. Windows] needs to be able to talk to the hardware it's running on -- that's what software drivers do. While there are some independently developed drivers for Linux, Windows drivers as a rule Only come from the company that made the *component*.

Now the companies making the components that make up your device are different from the company that puts it's brand on the box. Some brands are better about providing updated drivers to their customers than others. Some driver updating software, & some driver update sites, will offer drivers that were released for a different brand of device -- sometimes it works, sometimes not. Driver Booster Pro only provides WHQL drivers, so I don't think that would ever be a problem.

As far as knowing when & if a driver update was called for, particularly if you're running win10, Windows Update *may* provide some new drivers *if* that feature's turned on. But while Microsoft would like every component manufacturer to provide them with the latest drivers, not every company does, & those that do often give Microsoft incomplete driver sets, e.g. AMD. Otherwise some companies offer a software option to check for newer drivers that can be turned on/off, many companies do not. Intel recommends a separate app that can be downloaded from their site. AMD's graphics drivers can check for updates, but you have to install their driver set 1st, and not the one from Microsoft.

mike, Win 10 has drivers for every known MB, graphics, DRAMS timing, south, north bridges, USB ports, CPUs and so on. I only use the audio drivers from third parties and that is it. Everything is working perfect, never blue screens or fail to start, most of the drivers are loaded in 40 seconds from power on and I have ran all kinds of games, software, graphics, 3D renditions and never slowed me down.
If the drivers are loaded in a sequence that Win 10 requires them, any future driver update may disrupt such synchronization and you will start to get freezes or slow response, so my conclusion is this, leave it ALONE, unless you know what you are doing. Do not let third parties play with your OS if you do not want to be sorry on long run.

I have used this program successfully several times. Even though you might not feel comfortable to actually perform the updates you can use it to identify which drivers might need updating and then use that info in Device Manager to actually update the drivers. Just my humble opinion.

jpmalonesr,

Good advice, but if you're running win10, you might not be able to use Device Mgr. to update drivers the way you used to in win7. And If you're running Intel graphics, if they have or come out with a new model driver [which they're doing for all their newer CPUs], Intel specifically warns to Only run their setup app, & not to use Device Mgr.

No need to update anything if things run well.

Reply   |   Comment by adid  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+24)

adid,

"No need to update anything if things run well."

Well... it depends.

It depends 1st off on what the user thinks is running well. Lots of people put up with lower performance &/or glitches because that's the way it's always been with the device. Writing new drivers costs money, and no company is going to do it without a reason. If the reason for a new driver version includes fixes &/or performance increases, who wouldn't want that?

It also depends on Windows 10, if you're running that. With a new version every 6 months, that's twice a year that an old driver might no longer work. Sadly 2018's two win10 releases were anything but smooth and troublefree, so no one knows what to expect this spring. Since Driver Booster Pro only provides WHQL drivers, running it before that update strikes could provide a bit more safety. I've had driver issues when a new version of win10 was pushed out, and it's Not something I want to repeat, EVER.

You're better off not using a driver updating program. Two times I had faulty drivers installed by two different driver updating programs and wound up having to reinstall my Windows 10 operating system. The message I got that a device couldn't communicate with my computer and that I would have to use recovery procedures which I couldn't get to work. Another time my firmware became unusable because of a faulty driver so I had to roll it back. So I let Windows update my drivers. Better to go the Device Manager and update all your drivers there and save yourself a headache caused by faulty drivers.

Robert Fare, Agreed.

In the business world, you would never consider updating anything in your computer system without taking the time to properly analyze the potential impact on the rest of your system.

Yet, in private use, people will blindly do a multitude of upgrades, all at once with a piece of software like this, without any investigation whatsoever.

To them, I say,
"Good Luck."
"And store your full backups in a secure location. You may need them."

Cheers

Robert Fare,

"Two times I had faulty drivers installed by two different driver updating programs and wound up having to reinstall my Windows 10 operating system. The message I got ... that I would have to use recovery procedures which I couldn't get to work."

Whether you use something like Driver Booster Pro or rely solely on Windows Update, it's always safest to 1st do a disk/partition image backup that you can restore in the event of failure. Windows Update has pushed out bad drivers too, BTW. As you found out, unfortunately, recovery doesn't always work. Windows does by default hold onto the old driver setup, which you can access from the boot menu as Last Known Good. Also unfortunately, it can be a hassle to get to the boot menu with win10 -- it may have to fail to start a few times before it shows you the menu.

"Better to go the Device Manager and update all your drivers there"

In win10 that just takes you to Windows Update anyway.

Robert Fare, regarding "my firmware became unusable because of a faulty driver", that's pretty scary! Out of curiosity, how did it manifest itself? Was it a BSOD issue, or some other symptom? Short of there being some sort of malware or virus involved, I didn't think it was even possible. (You dealt with it, not me, so I'll take your word on it.)
