In agreement with everything thing "yanla" says. There are a bunch of online icon sets too - just download what appeals, unzip, and copy as a subfolder to the the Dr Folder program subfolder for Icons. Another useful feature is the inclusion in the right-click context menu - at any time you want to change a folder, use the context menu to access Dr Folder directly, with the folder name already in the app's window.
I've probably tried a dozen or so of these over the decades - this is first one I'd give a thumbs-up to. Really good bit of design and functionality - well done. It's peanuts to buy a single user licence, so definitely good value if you miss today's free offer.

Looks fabulous, but can't figure out if it is possible to change an individual shortcut icon color.

This program cannot change an individual shortcut icon because a shortcut is a pointer, which is neither a file nor a folder, but can point to either. Dr. Folder will work only on folders.
Thankfully, you don't even need this program to change a shortcut icon. Here is how:
Right click on the shortcut icon, and then select Properties.
You should see a Properties view that has "Change Icon" as the middle choice of the three choices close to the bottom. Click on Change Icon.
You can choose an icon from the default Windows collection or "Browse" to your favorite stash of icons.
After selecting an icon, click Apply or the OK button.
Yo may not see the change instantly for some systems. If so, step up a level, then back into the folder that has the shortcut. Now, the icon you chose should be visible.
Shortcuts have the small arrow (by default), which can hide some of the icon. There are other utilities that can remove the shortcut arrow on all of your shortcuts if you prefer.
Keep in mind that you can change one icon at a time only.

Easy installation and registration. The interface makes sense and is friendly. The program window can even be maximized -- so many programs have a fixed window size and position making them difficult to use. Lots of folder icon options which I will be using as an alternative sorting method when I don't want to change my current sort option -- great for visual sorting. No muss no fuss, does what it says on the tin, and a generous giveaway offer. Even has a built-in image-to-ico converter! Thumbs up.
