In my XP Pro I had 5.8
Installed today's BitsDuJour Offer (which uninstalled 5.8)
I cannot see where to enter the key
I did have the BitsDuJour key in the clipboard. Perhaps it saw that and quietly registered the program ?
The text file says click the key icon top right.
I cannot see such an icon.

Rob Crombie,
If you have activated previous versions of Do Your Data Recovery, you don't need to activate it again. After installing the 6.6 version on your PC, the software will be automatically activated if you have activated it before.

DoYourData,
The previous version was a giveaway version, so it's key should not have carried forward.
I installed into my W7 computer. Identical scenario (except this time I made sure the key was NOT in the clipboard). Identical result.
I installed into my W10 which also had giveaway 5.8.
This time I used the download from YOUR website.
After it installed, it went into trial mode. I entered today's BitsDuJour code, and that registered it.
If the XP and the W7 are unregistered, does it show the word Trial somewhere, or some other indication that it is NOT registered ?

I used it to recover data from a USB thumb drive that simply crashed because it got too full (my bad on that one) and it appears it was able to recover files intact that are very important to me as I archived a lot of installation files and information on that drive. Thumbs up on a great program! The only thing I didn't like but is probably going to be true of any program is that it separated data by type instead of retaining everything in the original folders. Since the drive crashed, the index data was probably not available so again, my fault. I just have to find time to reunite everything back onto a new, bigger thumb drive or two of them since it needs to be USB 2.0 compatible.

I had version 5.8 from an earlier giveaway. I installed it due to the positive response at the time. I just checked it and found it had reverted to a trial version. I find that unusual as I did not upgrade the program. I rarely opened it so I see no reason for it to go back to a trial version. Not very encouraging for me. I uninstalled it an will review the comments to see if this latest offer will be worth my time and effort.

You might think of a hard drive, or whatever storage device, as a digital book. When you've got lost files you want to recover, think of that book as 1) missing the table of contents & index, and 2) the words are jumbled around in no particular order. The data making up your files is still [hopefully] there, but you have no way of making sense of it. Do Your Data Recovery Pro & similar scan the storage device for any & all data, then try to piece the fragments into files, kind of like taking the jumbled words in my make believe book and trying to put them back in sentences that make sense.

In order for Do Your Data Recovery Pro to do its job of course the data you're after has to be there. If the files went missing because they were accidentally deleted, that data's most likely there immediately after it was deleted, but if the files went missing because of some other sort of problem or glitch, there's a good chance that some of that data's missing. If those files were stored on a SSD, time is important, since a SSD will often clear deleted data the same way as Windows when it runs the Trim process on that SSD -- unlike a conventional hard drive, the old data has to be cleared before new data can be stored in its place, so with SSDs deleted data's cleared proactively, so you don't have to wait for it to be cleared when you write to that SSD.

With a conventional hard drive, the OS [e.g. Windows] assumes that data was deleted intentionally, and that it can write new data in its place -- writing new data over part or all of a missing file means it's gone forever -- so you want to stop writing to the drive partition where your missing files are ASAP... If your missing data is on a separate partition from the OS [Windows] that's not usually a big problem -- don't open or save any work to that partition. But if the missing data is on the system partition where the OS lives, it's not a terrible idea to pull the plug immediately, because as long as Windows is running, even if just long enough to shut down, it's writing to that drive. Note that when you get a message during installation to not install recovery software on the drive partition where you need to recover files, it's because in writing the app's files to the drive, any missing files may be overwritten.

It's a great practice Not to save any files or work to the system partition in the 1st place -- store that stuff on another partition &/or in the cloud -- but if you're caught with missing files on the system partition, and you've shut Windows down [pulled the plug], you'll need to access that drive some other way to get your files back. You can physically attach that drive to another PC or laptop; if you've got more than one OS installed, you can run another OS; you can use a bootable USB stick or drive with another OS installed -- some recovery software includes this option, or you can use something like a Windows 2 Go drive; using the bootable USB stick from a disk/partition image backup app, you can backup the complete partition -- all sectors so it includes free space -- and then back running Windows normally you can restore that backup to another drive or partition, & run the file recovery there. [FWIW, on our PCs I have a 2nd, base copy of Windows 10 installed just for stuff like creating/restoring backups, or when there's a problem with the primary copy of Windows.]

Do bear in mind that you might have better luck with one recovery app than another, so it doesn't hurt to collect giveaways like Do Your Data Recovery Pro, and try them all if or as needed -- if you lose files for some other reason than you simply deleted them, in my experience I don't believe there's any way to predict which recovery app will work best for you. Earlier this year I lost all the data on a drive used purely for data storage because of an odd ball Windows glitch... I got most of it back, but I used several apps, results varied quite a bit, and the often recommended Recuva was the 2nd worst of the bunch [EaseUS actually turned out best in this case].

I may have had a similar issue so I went to the website and downloaded the trial version exe which I scanned with anitvirus and spyware software. I then extracted the readme.txt from the zip file and used the license provided to register the app. It is working - actually recovered data from a memory stick. Win7 64bit home.

Hi Lads from DoYourData, is this license for Pro Version a lifetime license or what?
Thanks

Ricardo,
It is lifetime license code for Pro, but not support to transfer to new computer after your PC crashes.

Installed fine, says "scanning disk", but won't show any of my 7 disk drives, likewise for my USB flash drive and the iPod.
No visible disk activity, no CPU usage - nothing, although it has opened handles for all the drives...
Currently unusable for me.

Running on XP Pro SP3

DoYourData v6.6.0.0 is "clean" with no hits at VirusTotal:

In Google Chrome, just click on the right-marker on the caution notice and select [ Keep ] -- beware of warnings that have no explanation, such as this goofy one from Google Chrome ... "not usually downloaded" is a "warning", seriously?

If you click on the "further information/options" button on the download when you are in Chrome, it gives you the option to "keep".

My Google Chrome refuses to download the ZIP archive, saying: "DoYourDataRecoveryPro66_dn26st.zip is not commonly downloaded and may be dangerous. DISCARD!"

I have never experienced this with any ZIP archive downloaded from GOTD.
Any suggestions?

Please all experts , give me all possible advice which software can recover
clicking and inaccessible,HDD and even erased HDD?

Thank You all in advance for any advice.

Reply   |   Comment by Madeleine  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-5)

Madeleine,
It can recover inaccessible data. But if you use data erasure to erase your hard drive, the data can't be recovered because of overwritting.

Reply   |   Comment by DoYourData  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

Madeleine, clicking drive would indicate the actuator arm that reads/writes data to the plators has become misaligned and is stuck. No data recovery software will resolve this issue. You could try removing the drive and tapping the top of it gently. If that doesn't work then I would recommend replacing the drive as having it repaired professionally would cost way more the cost of replacing the drive, unless of course your drive contains valuable data that you can't afford to loose. Don't attempt to open the drive yourself, it requires expert knowledge and you can easily damage it beyond repair.

Reply   |   Comment by Blackhat  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

Madeleine, if your HDD is mechanical dead (clicking noise, inaccessible) no software will be able to recover the data. There are professional companies that can repair a defective HDD, but it's not cheap.

as connected and not shown in computer management even though I connect such hdd to the computer with usb cable

Madeleine, clicking drive is NOT RECOVERABLE, it can not read nor write data on it. Only way to recover the data is to remove the disk plater(s) and mount them on a working drive, again impossible to do it yourself, you need special tools and a clean (dust free room), again impossible to achieve at home. If you have not made a backup from that drive while was still working, again you are out of luck.

Madeleine, a professional might be able to extract the magnetic plate (or plates?) inside into a new drive casing and you might be able to resume in that way but as others have said, it's not cheap. Don't try it yourself as you would likely zap all the data.
