Well, this is one I will have to pass on because it appears to be something I would get myself into trouble with due to my lack of experience in this degree of technology. Thanks GOTD for the offering and thanks folks for the comments.

Well, today it's free, and it could be interesting to try it out. However, I allready have a fine little gem for monitoring my hardware - Moo0 System Monitor, and even it hasn't been updated since late 2013, it's very accurate on all Windows versions. Since it's portable, you can just check it out at the home page, but don't use their dl link, since it's CNet's domain. I'll advise you to get it at Softpedia. Greets from Denmark

And what are you supposed to do when presented with a huge number of files. !00's and 100's of file changes occur simply by say...opening up a browser.
I don't get it.

We had diskpulse installed few months ago and removed it the next day, reason:
It created huge useless files and info that jammed our SQL server and the email server.
It happen when windows was doing updates overnight and created d-base files of all of the changes including the 0 bytes files and just the regular replacement of old files.
There were tens of thousands of files mark with red dots and marked for deletion and every single file was sent to our mail server as separate notice.
It took out IT department all day to re-load from archives to restore our SQL d-base and server.
Recording everything can be good but comes with a price to be paid down the road. It slowed the server and created useless file access record that can be detrimental to everyday use of a computer system.

jebby, Great review. Thanks for sharing that, which is one of the main reasons, that I use MooO System Monitor portable - as you see in //comment 1/ as down voted ;-)

jebby, Please take a look at HDD Guardian, which is open source. It could be interesting to hear your opinion, since you were kind to give today's offer the first sufficient review.

Have not downloaded yet.
1) Would this show what happens - what files are created or changed - when a new program is installed on the PC?
2) If yes, could it show HOW a file was changed? I am guessing not and that the info might not be useful anyway.
3) I'm just a real estate lawyer who keeps four PCs and two routers running. Workgroups, not domains. How is this useful to me?
Thanks.

Apologies, this is not about the DiskPulse, as I already bought Hard Disk Sentinel when it was offered as a give away some while back.
Downloaded Sysgauge, which is shown a as a free utility, but on running, it immediately produces an error,
SCA_DsmManager:AddCounter: Cannot ad a counter - 0(ERR-100188)
If you click OK, it logs the error then immediately produces another error, but never lets you into the main screen to see what is causing the problem.
Any one else tried it?

One thing is missing from the description of the product, here but also on the publisher's website : what would be the point of all that monitoring ? What are the benefits ? What type of users does this address ?

This looks like the old diskmon utility with a nice GUI. Can't really see a use for it, except perhaps snooping on changes made by another user. Maybe someone else has a better reason to run this software in the background.
