I had to get the license key via the website as no email arrived (Gmail). Also:

"follow me" should be "Follow me".
"Choose Format..." should be "Choose format...".
Choosing the format to convert to needs to use proper capitalization.
Details: needs to actually show details.
Reolution should be Resolution.
Setting should be Settings.
aac should be AAC and ac3 should be AC3.
"Add File" doesn't apply a default filter for video files.
Blu-ray is also put as Bluray.
Under "Make ISO", "Choose Directionary to Make ISO..." would be better as "Choose Directory to make ISO in...".

Under Select Format:

video params should be Video Parameters (same with the audio section). Maybe capitalize the rest. Framerate had odd values: 23.976, 24, 29.7, 30. Why use 23.976 or 29.7?
Sumsang should be Samsung (it is correct under the TVs tab).
The entries in the above tab need to have spaces.
Same with the Apple tab.
In the Games tab, Ps3 should be PS3, Ps4 should be PS4, and Psp should be PSP.
In the Android tab, AndroidPhone and AndroidTab need to be separate words.

The Edit feature when a video has been added was a pleasant surprise, though the Effect tab needs to be cleaned up. Three times there was a zero instead of an o. In addition to the issue with spaces, there were capitalization issues. And it should be labeled Effects.

"fast mode" should be "Fast Mode" (the format dictates whether or not you can use it). I was able to play the video while it was being converted and increase the volume up to 200. Going from FLV to MP4 created a 206MB file from a 24MB one. Converting an MPEG file to MKV (HEVC) took 16 minutes on fast mode and without it. The size of the files was the same (going from 39MB to 139MB). Make sure to change the Output Folder since the default is your home directory.

Still going to keep it.

And as a further comment, the readme.txt file states that codes must be entered by January 7th?,2017...but NOT afterwards.....here's the info from the readme.txt file, and I quote..."Note:

"1. Please register the software before Jan. 8, 2017, and cannot do so afterwards.
2. The giveaway copy could be used and kept persistently after successful unlock, but formatting/replacing the hard drive or reinstalling the whole system will make giveaway license invalid.
3. Giveaway version doesn't support free upgrade. "

For once I was actually able to install a GOTD program without encountering an error message telling me that the installation files were corrupt.

HOWEVER, I am still waiting for the license for the Dimo video converter to arrive by email an hour after submitting my email address, and from the other comments on this page I can see that I'm far from being the only one who is still waiting.

GOTD's overly complex, failure-prone installation procedures, and the failure of its partners to follow through by providing license info, have turned the experience of attempting to install GOTD-sponsored programs into a frustrating misery.

I've finally had enough of this inability of the various parties to get their act together. Goodbye GOTD!

Reply   |   Comment by Erik K  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-2)

Erik K, License Serials are in ReadMe.txt given at Dimo site, once you follow readme file instructions,(AND / OR) go to their site,as listed above,on right-hand side of page....look for "Christmas Giveaway",enter your email address,at next screen, choose "FREE version" choice..Download file, open .ZIP file, there will be a "ReadMe.txt" file within the zip file,...highlight SERIAL CODE ONLY,press CTRL+V on your keyboard...and then select enter button with your mouse-click,if I remember correctly....(of course, you will want to run the setup file to initiate program installation, for the pop-up window to enter your license serials)... any further questions on problematic steps, submit another question here ,and I will try to answer them ..it's only good till 3AM,EST,I suspect...and as a further addendum,it's always 0420 somewhere...relax...it's all good,Dude. You can make it register, and work(To check Validity / Registration, click ABOUT after entering license serials)...I've got faith in you,Heck,if a chimpanzee like me can figure it out.......

Reply   |   Comment by vanierstein  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Erik K, given the numerous variations in how the giveaways are installed, I suspect that the fault lies with the partners and not GAOTD. The issues with corrupt files and such are mostly caused by antivirus programs not liking the wrapper that GAOTD uses to make sure that people can only install the software during the giveaway period (so that the partners know that GAOTD is upholding their end of the deal).

Hi vanierstein,

Thanks. That worked! :)

The file that contains the license info mentions that the program must be registered by 8 January 2017, so anyone who has not yet registered the program still has time. (I successfully registered my copy after the official expiry time of this giveaway.)

It doesn't matter how many people say they have no downloading /installation / registration problems, there will be people with the exact opposite experience. Is it because of their security software, system, or the way they're doing it, hardly anyone might know, but most of the time, it has nothing to do with software developers, or software itself.

As for today's giveaway, it seems to be can't handle while spaces in the key. Ideally, it should have trimmed them off, and not require users to be so careful when they are selecting it, as long as they have copied all the keys, it should work. Can't think of any other reason why they can't paste it.

Of course it's just yet another converter. However following the link to the website of Dimo Studio, and with entering mail addy, download started immediately. Chrome, latest version is my browser of choice and there were no hiccups or warnings against the website. Not surprising unzipping was also no problem, txt file with key (btw; whoever could not type that key manually should not work on a PC anyway, but of course copy & paste make the process easier). Check with Norton = green OK, insight check alway OK, so on with installation which took no time whatever, desktop as chosen was created. Starting the software immediately called for the key, pasted in , followed by the usual redirect to the maker's page.
First impression of the app. Window not resizable, in this case, as far as I'm concerned, not need for it either.
An extra features as I understand is that the own TV can be used as media server, my local network IP is shown with Port 8868 as default. This feature is a new field to me and I need to figure out connection in the first place.
Maybe somebody with more knowledge could shed some light on whether this actually works as claimed. There is some guidance on their website but to a novice as ever "all Chinese".
As far as the actual converter is concerned I'd say "you get what you pay for" by which I mean nothing negative. The GUI is basic, the choice of input and output formats probably not comprehensive enough to meet al demands.
Practicable experience: stable software with moderate processor and moderate 12 GB RAM, max 38 % CPU and max. 388.000 k RAM load.
Better processor and more RAM would certainly speed up conversion time.
Output quality: quite remarkable for my test pieces.
One of the XMas giveaways by ON1 included 3 videos on landscape and travel photography in m4v video format. Chose to convert to mp4, with uprated framerate. Technically speaking nonsense - so one would think - however not quite so in reality.Whereas the original was atrocious in quality when in full display on my 27 inch monitor, the uprated (converted) version was amazingly sharp and nonjerky, of course at the cost of 18.4 MB to 340 MB output.
Resume: a piece of software that works and which I shall keep. Real rating3.9 out of 5 points, as freeware 5 points.
Don't blame the software company if download and installation fail.

Reply   |   Comment by cecile  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Hi cecile. :-)

GAOTD users reported problems with these antiviruses/firewalls, in past months/years: Avast, Avg, BitDefender, Comodo, Kaspersky, Norton/Symantec, pados.hu TinyWall, Zemana antilogger/antimalware.
If you have one of those AV, you could try these possible solutions:
1) If the package has been correctly downloaded, right-click it, click properties and:
- Win8, 8.1, 10 users --> tick/select the unblock checkbox, click apply, click ok.
- WinXP, vista, 7 --> click the unblock button, click apply, click ok.
2) If the package has been correctly downloaded, put the setup.exe and the setup.gcd (or their entire folder) in the whitelist of your antivirus
3) Disable the real-time/on-access scanning, just the time to download/install the software (then re-enable that function)
4) Disable your AV completely, just the time to download/install the software (then re-enable it)
5) Boot windows in safe mode with networking, just the time to download/install the software (sometimes this is necessary with kaspersky antivirus)

By the way in these months/years, almost all the engines on web services (virustotal, metadefender, jotti, virscan), that are problematic for some GAOTD users, i.e. AVG, AVIRA, AVAST BITDEFENDER, KASPERSKY, (NORTON) SYMANTEC, showed NO PROBLEMS.

Hope this helps.

Hi everybody. :-)

I'm using:
- Windows 10 home/standard x64, DEP always on, Custom scaling 150%.
- Resolution 1920x1080, color depth 32bit, refresh rate 60Hz.

I didn't find the developers' address in its website or through three whois webservices.
No problems during download.
No problems detected after doing scans with Windows10 Defender, SAS free 6.0.1230, MBAM free 2.2.1.1043, EEK free 12.0.0.6971, GSAM 3.0.67 (all definitions updated).
*** Web services results are at the end of the comment ***
No problems during installation.
No problems also after doing scans post-installation (with the same tools).
No problems at program startup.

The test I made:
- I chose a mp4 video file: 3:06 minutes, 1920x1080, H264, data rate 3054kbps, frame rate 25kbps, audio bitrate 125kbps, size 71MB.
- I trimmed/clipped it to about 2:03 minutes.
- I modified video and audio settings: 1920x1080, libx264, bitrate 5000kbps (3000 not present), frame rate 24kbps (25 not present), audio bitrate 128kbps (125 not present), samplerate 44100.
- I wasn't able to select/tick fast mode.
- output: mp4
- I started the operation at 14:09:00 and finished at 14:12:10 (190 seconds).
Result: the size is bigger than the source, 77.9M. Maybe because I wasn't able to select the same video data rate (3000), or maybe because I wasn't able to select the fast mode, or both.
The size should have been smaller, or that was the result/aim I had in my mind.

It needs corrections, but it's a nice-to-have program.
I didn't try other functions (I don't know if I'll try other functions today; probably yes, and I'll keep you posted).
I'm submitting my suggestions to the dedicated section (idea informer).

Thanks to the GAOTD team and Dimo Software Inc (Dimo, Dimo Studio, DimoMedia, mediadimo.com).

*** Here are the results from virustotal, metadefender and jotti. ***

Virustotal Qihoo-360 engine found: HEUR/QVM06.1.0000.Malware.Gen
Metadefender Filseclab engine found: W32.OutBrowse.kdex
Jotti ClamAV engine found: PUA.Win.Spyware.XPCSpyPro-1
ClamAV engine on virustotal and metadefender didn't find anything, instead.

So how long a I suppose to wait for the "Key" to arrive via email? I entered my email and clicked on the button but a half hour later I still haven't gotten an email from them. The registration box sits empty on my desktop wait for one to arrive!!! So have the send one already! It really gets old having to jump through all the hoops for these giveaways with no keys at the end! Someone needs to figure out a better mouse trap, so we don't have to get so frustated at the copmanys givingaway their programs. If I ever get the code I'll let you know!

Well I sent an email to their support. From what they said & I could figure out, after downloading from GAOFTD you have to enter your emai. When the download button appears you click on it & another box will appear. 1 of the options is the text file containg the registration code along with an option to download the program. Just click on the .txt file if you already downloaded the program & the Code will appear. You can,t righ click on it to copy & paste. You have to highlight it press control "c", then click in the code entry box & click control "v" to paste the code into it!!! Good luck!

Ron Dunn,
They NEVER email you a key in this particular offer. Therefore, do the following.
1. Download GOTD offer from the link they provide.
2. Open the Readme.txt file. It there, they provide you with a link to not only download the program AGAIN but that download also has a License Key in it.
3. Go here: http://www.mediadimo.com/big-giveaway (given in the Readme.txt file)
4. Enter your email address, at bottom of page. Click on Get Free License button (red colored button)
5. You will get a popup window. Click on the green Giveaway Version button at the bottom
6. The download will begin. When finished, inside the zip file named video-converter-ultimate-xmas.zip you will find the installation file Dimo-vct-install.exe along with a text file named License Key.
7. After downloading from their website, you can delete the GOTD download as it is the same exact size as the one from dediadimo website.
8. Install, register with license key given and you're done.

I can normally copy and paste these silly keys into the software reg box but not with this software (which, I must admit looks good). Instead I spent a while typing in a most confusing and long winded key only to be informed 'wrong key' I was not going to spend time doing it again. There are more video converters out there without the need to be stressed by this silly key typo. Uninstalled. Great Christmas giveaway Thanks a bunch....NOT.

Today's developer is offering this software as a Christmas giveaway on its own website, so anyone who for whatever reason might be encountering difficulties here can always go over there: GOTD has, as usual, kindly provided a direct link.

Using a tagline culled from an American 'life coach' blogger -- proof positive that if there's anything more irritating in life than a life coach, it's an illiterate one -- the worldwide "pursuit of better" by this obscure Chinese developer has, it says, resulted in a customer base of 30 million users.

As any product is only as credible as the claims of its producer, I'll pass up the opportunity of being customer 30,000,001.

This video converter is so simple to use that even a novice guy can use it with fluency without referring to any user manual.

I used this software to edit mts files. It was a pain looking for reasonably video converter software that could do the job. First things first, it does not take long to import media. As a matter of fact it goes by extremely fast. I tried it with other video formats (mp4, mpeg, etc.) and they all work fine. Now to the editing, it is a basic editor with filters, titles, cropping, rotating, etc. (you can read more features on the Dimo website). When you export, there are tons of options with estimated file sizes as well. Anyway, this is an amazing, simple video editing software.

Downloaded, installed and registered without any problems, it's just a great pity that the video converter doesn't actually work. I tried converting several different file formats and not a single one worked. As soon as I hit the start button the progress bar went straight to 100%. and nothing was converted. Another epic fail from Crapoftheday. Don't know why I even bother! Big thumbs down, again! BAH HUMBUG!!!

The web site doesn't work properly (i.e. as intended) if javascript is disabled. Where the good old days of pure HTML/CSS have gone? How do they justify the (ab)use of javascript anyway? Thumbs down because I can't get any useful information about the product and typos not fixed (e.g. "restiction" in lieu of "restriction"), which is a shame for any web site.

Easy to use. At first, I use it to convert videos; later, i found it is amazing in sharing videos onto mobile devices. Thanks a lot. I love it.

I finally got the program to install! Unfortunately I can't get it to work. I transferred a Tivo file to the computer. The program the asks for my Tivo Key. When I enter the key, the program stops working, Windows searches for a solution, then the program closes. Another disappointing program. Any answer from the publisher??

Tom, I had the same problem - program crashes after entering my media access key. I recommend kmttg for getting files from a Tivo. Takes a little effort to set up initially, but it works and is updated regularly.

it won't let me PASTE your 1,000 character, (I am not typing it all in), License key. I have tried everything...Key is way way way too long to have to manually type in. I will unload this and move on without it.

Earl Hayes, if you have tried everything and couldn't past a key, which is text...... it just supernatural.

Earl Hayes, I had the same problem. It would not allow copy and paste, but it would allow typing... strange that. No software that did not cost me a thousand bucks is worth this aggravation... Installed, then removed.

Earl Hayes, MAKE SURE you're selecting ONLY key characters, and NOT any white spaces at the beginning or end, OR, at the beginning AND end. Just select ALL the key characters WITHOUT white spaces!

Hi everybody. :-)

Copy the license key.
Open the program.
Press and hold CTRL, press the V letter (CTRL + V), release all the (keyboard) keys, and the license key should be pasted in the license key entry.

But I agree the length of the license key is too long.
If you check the changelog for the latest version you'll find "Shorten the registration code"! :-D

Giveaway of The Day, and other giveaway sites regularly give away video converters. This is why I already had 24 different video converters installed before installing today's giveaway. Like the majority of these giveaways, Dimo Video Converter comes from China and has a fairly familiar user interface.

As to how well it works, that's really up to you to decide, as the best video converter will depend on what you need to use it for. Some devices are very picky about what videos they will play, and sometimes they won't play videos converter by one video converter, but will from another, so it can it be handy to have more than one video converter installed.

First I get a message that Windows has protected me from running a program from an unknown publisher. When I click run anyway, I get a message that the setup files are corrupted. Too bad - I've been hoping for a video converter that worked on Tivo files.

I have installed 3 Video converters from GOTD. Why do we get converters' giveaway so much? and instead of useless games can we please get some real games like Assasin Creeds?

Mahesh Shrestha, Assassin Creed 111 as been free for about two weeks, just google it

Buckoooo , i have it installed already but what i am asking is providing latest Assasin Creed not the one 5 years ago ACIII.
P.S. ACIII was provided by Ubisoft on their 30th annivarsary not by some thirdparty collab!
