Very disappointed that when I went to run the program today, I couldn't as the serial number given to us by GOTD has been banned by Nimo. What's up with that? It's deceptive and cruel. If Nimo is going to allow users a legit serial number to use for life, then it should be kept valid for life. Very underhanded. Please re-enable the serial that started with "9ZmpRce..." Thank you.

So much for the lifetime license, mine just got banned. But on the positive side, it did an incredible job of ripping a new release Blu-Ray I'd bought before it was banned, and as it costs just £12 at the moment, I took the plunge and bought it.

Anyone having trouble, just get MakeMKV instead. It's free for DVD ripping, but costs to get the Bluray function. Well worth it though, it's fast and lossless ripping.

However, its output video format is limited to MKV, which is somewhat frustrated for those who want to play Blu-ray/DVD on iPhone iPad Android or other mobiles on the move. Besides, the output MKV video file is very large. Worse still, its Achilles' heel is that it doesn't seem to work with Mac's newer operating systems.

Aileen, Yes that's very true. I was thinking in terms of using it as a stepping stone to further conversion, but in hindsight that's not ideal for most people who just want to do it one sweep, not multiple.

Doesn't seem a whole lot different than the BDmate kindly offered by Dimo Studio 3/25/18 -- it looks like a more feature limited version, without BDmate's download feature.

giveawayoftheday[.]com/dimo-bdmate-4-0/

BDmate didn't work with a new release Blu-ray disc [Jumanji] -- it apparently didn't understand the DRM -- and I've no reason to think that using Monstune would be any different when it comes to working with new release Blu-ray discs. And I'm only assuming that Monstune will work with at least some older Blu-rays.

Otherwise just expect the sorta standard ffmpeg-based converter, though one that will recognize the Blu-ray format -- not all converters will. As far as speed goes, copying data from a Blu-ray disc works as fast as your BD drive & your hard disk will allow -- aside from getting faster drives there's nothing really that anyone can do about that. As far as actual conversion [re-encoding] speed goes, some formats, e.g. mpg2, require less processing, so re-encoding will be faster.

Some encoders are faster than other encoders producing the same size & format video files. Ffmpeg uses x264 for AVC, & the speed encoding to AVC with x264 is going to be about the same, regardless the software using it, or using x264 itself from the command line. And the x264 encoder itself cannot make much use of GPU hardware assist, whether software like Monstune offers it or not. In fact, enabling GPU assist in a ffmpeg-based converter can actually slow things down encoding to AVC, though mileage varies, so try it both ways. [When you use GPU assist, unless you're using something like a pure CUDA encoder, software sends some operations to the CPU, & some to the GPU. The problem with that in a nutshell is timing -- it's both easy & common for the CPU to spend time waiting for the results from the GPU that it needs to proceed, & vice versa. This PC has an i7 and a mainstream AMD graphics card, and enabling GPU assist with a ffmpeg-based converter slows things down quite dramatically.]

If you want faster, look for encoders designed to take advantage of Nvidia's CUDA, Intel's Quick Sync, or OpenCL, which works with Nvidia, Intel, & AMD, but be prepared for a quality hit -- how much of a hit depends on the software... some [AFAIK all proprietary, i.e. not free] encoders try to only use GPU assist for parts of the encoding process where it has the least impact on quality. Also bear in mind that the amount of assistance a GPU can provide varies according to the graphics card &/or GPU model -- those that have the most to offer are the ones in short supply, because miners are after the same thing.

I didn't find anything bad in BDmate, & neither did McAfee LiveSafe or Microsoft Security Essentials -- in terms of impact on Windows it had Very little. Needless to say any software on GOTD undergoes rigorous inspection for malware -- there's never been a case of malware in a GOTD offer, ever. And the same option to get the download link via email is there today, just like it always is.

Last, I would like to remind folks that re-encoding Blu-ray video is Not as necessary as it was a few years ago. Most reasonably current processors, graphics chips, & chipsets will handle it just fine -- that includes the lowest end ARM & Intel SOCs [System On Chip]. Nor is it as necessary to copy Blu-ray video into a MKV container [e.g. MakeMKV] -- more players today will handle the Blu-ray native .m2ts than .mkv. The catch? Video on a Blu-ray may be split over several files, so using something like the free tsMuxeR may make it playable in more players by merging those separate files into one. The advantage of Blu-ray video is that it's likely the highest quality video you can get your hands on, so maybe consider watching that highest quality video, rather than throwing some of that quality away by re-encoding.

As pointed out by multiple users, you need to have a social media account in order to get the key. Sharing is caring, while that may be true, it should always be optional, not mandatory. GOTD is not intended to be used as social media presence booster.

The program can create BD/DVD rips to iso or folder, you can aswell use it as a pure converter for media files. The Media Server is on board aswell again but the Youtube Downloader present in most other programs sharing the same hood is missing but that's not the main focus anyway. There are basic editing functions present aswell. Speed was rather slow compared to free(mium) alternatives like MakeMKV, conversion peaks the CPU and is rather slow too and kinda equals the media length being converted.

A combination with MakeMKV and HandBrake is a decent free alternative solution, a better one i might suggest.

Chose a copy-protected dvd at random to rip to xvid/mp3.
It took 3 hours 7 minutes to rip a 1 hour 35 minute movie on an 8 core cpu with 16gb ram. It also ignored my choice of 1280x720 @ 25fps and created 1920x1080 @ 24fps even though showing 1280 x 720 as being selected for output.
I'm not impressed.
Uninstalled.

Dimo are running Easter offers/giveaways.
Recent giveaway was Dimo BDmate - which helps with the BluRay aspect.
On the Dimo website they have DVDmate on offer, but still chargeable.

Since this giveaway - Monstune - deals with both DVD and BluRay, I guess it is the one to get.

Don't forget to download the installer also from Dimo to enable reinstall later.

Reply   |   Comment by nvingo  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Hi, nvingo,

Yes, DVDmate is not free but has a discount during Easter holiday. And Monstune is not only BDmate + DVDmate, it can also deal with multi-track Blu-ray and DVD by ripping it with keeping multiple audio tracks and subtitles.

Any issue, please kindly send it to support@mediadimo.com. We are pleased to help you as soon as possible.

You have to visit the Dimo website in the link in the readme file to get the "key" (serial number) but you get a little surprise when you arrive there that you won't get the code until you share a "like" on either Facebook or Twitter.
Not an option with me as i do not subscribe to either and have less than zero interest in any social media...especially considering the recent Facebook mess.
For grins i clicked on the Twitter "blue bird" link and was asked to log on to Twitter. I closed the Twitter "log in" page but - to my surprise - the serial number for the Monstune software appeared on the Dimo page and worked flawlessly while installing the software. Sooooo....if you aren't into social media as i'm not...you may want to give this method a go. Just remember to leave the web page up from the readme file as that is where the serial number will appear.
