Desktop Secret Lock Standard 2.10.2022 was available as a giveaway on September 24, 2022!
Desktop Secret Lock adds an additional level of security to your computer or remote desktop server.
Desktop Secret Lock uses a non-standard locking method for enhanced security, and its own unique password which is separate from your computer’s password. A locked computer looks like it’s unlocked, but it is in a mode which securely prevents anyone from accessing the working desktop. You will be notified if someone has clicked on your desktop or pressed any key in your absence.
Features:
locked desktop looks like the everyday, unlocked desktop, ready to be used.
Desktop Secret Lock creates its own desktop and displays it instead of your normal Windows desktop.
Desktop Secret Lock can lock the desktop by use of a shortcut key, or by specifying a certain period of inactivity.
Desktop Secret Lock has an option: "Saving key file to USB flash stick".

If the rating system were less binary, I would give this a 4 out of 5 stars.
Pros: Fast and easy installation with a simple registration process; Generous license for personal use; Clean, modern interface with the option to scale; Easy-to-understand options, and options that make sense; Option to make the program play nicely and minimize to the system tray or close; Auto-lock by time countdown (idle time) or specified time; USB key; and more. Log file (with flexible settings) shows all activity including a screen grab of the mouse click that initiated an unlock attempt.
Cons: (1) There is no way to maximize the program window -- you can minimize to the taskbar and tray, but you cannot maximize it. This is just bizarre and doesn't work with my screen. Part of the window is always hidden by my taskbar. I could change my display settings, but not for just one program when all other programs work nicely. (2) If the Lock Options is set to transparent mode, the screen flashes blue before locking, and it's the horrible BSOD shade of blue -- not comfortable. (3) Also, if in transparent mode, if you click on the screen while it's locked, you're hit with a HUGE "locked" window. The person who clicked on your desktop can type you a message in this window, but don't we know what the message is? "Hey buddy, I tried to tinker with your machine while you weren't looking." Also, you can't unlock from this window. As it tells you, you have to close that window then right-click to enter your password. Even after unlocking, you get two more windows. As least one of these goes away on it's own, but regardless, transparent mode may be more in-your-face hassle than it's worth. I recommend using Windows lock mode to keep things more seamless and even stealthy. (4) Date & time formats are inconsistent. In settings, both 20:00 and 8:00 are used in the same line -- a mix of 12h and 24h. The log file is formatted as: "September 24 2022 9-19-36" -- which would be better read as "September 24, 2022 09:19:36" (5) The log file isn't very clear that there was a message left for you -- you have to really look carefully, then click the log line item. Easy fix: please make lines that include a message or image show a different icon so it's easily visible.
Nice program. Could use some tweaks. Keeper. Thank you for the chance to try this out.

Correction on the "mix of 12h and 24h" as 8:00 is used in both formats, but I still recommend using a simple AM/PM format for all times, else offer the option for users to select which they prefer. I'd rather see 08:00 for 8 AM if using 24h.

yanla,
Thank you for your review!
It is very useful for me.
1) I will add Maximize button to the new version.
2) "flashes blue before locking".
I don't see this issue on my PCs.
I have a guess that it may be caused by the delay with creating new desktop with blue color on your PC.
3) This window has the large Unlock button on the top of the window.
4) I will change the date/time format to the default on the PC in the next version.
I don't understand what is:
"Easy fix: please make lines that include a message or image show a different icon so it's easily visible."

Dmitrys, thank you for your comments and your attention. The "easy fix" part is for the log window. It's not very evident that someone has left you a note. A special "note" icon on that line would help us visualize that there is a note with that log event. (Also, instruction that we should double-click that line to see the note; a "view note" button or link would suffice.) An image icon would be helpful, just the same as having a note icon.

What happens if the PC is turned off and then turned on again. Is it still locked?

Gary, I think in Options you have to toggle on Start with Windows, but I just installed so will test this.

Gary, On the page it says the app auto locks when the system was reset without unlocking first.

Gary, I checked this, remains locked according to some good settings in Options. I like that variety of settings for startup. Not shilling.

Yep, it has an option for that, if you look at the feature list on the product page.

Gary,
Set the option: "Lock if reboot without unlock".
