Not a bad concept and the gui is not bad but this thing is buggy. Especially the audio portion. Trying to sync up your audio with the timing of a tutorial is difficult espec. since you can't record audio 'real time'.

Importing an audio file caused me more bugs and issues. No free support so I think I'll pass and go with Wink or Camtasia. This program is 'pretty' but just not functional enough.

I just wanted to make a movie in real time of things that happened on my desktop. Instead I just got a series of frames that lasted 5 seconds each - defintely not in real time. Plus no sound was captured. Along with the index errors that I got when I hit the preview button, this is really a poor excuse of a program for sale. This is nothing like Camtasia. How this got a 95% thumbs up rating seems very suspect since half of the comments here are bug reports.

I'll be using this one for tutorials - MUCH better than lots of screenshots!

I read BladedThoth's review (of course) and I wanted to note: I've had best luck downloading via IE7, not Firefox. I prefer Mozilla; I've been using it since before Netscape went public. I have found, though, that IE7 is superior when it comes to downloading. If anyone can shed some light, I'd love to learn!

A great program! Installed and worked without a glitch on my Windows XP system. I've tried crating a couple of test demos and it worked beautifully. Though will need to play with it a bit more to get the audio timings right. :-)

Just as several other people here, I'm the 'go-to' computer 'expert' for several of my family members, friends and colleagues (although I'm certainly no techie myself!). This program will be a fantastic help.

A final note in response to #9 above ... it only automatically loads the Wondershare site at the end of the video until you change that option yourself under "Settings".

Go to "Settings -> Other -> Action at End of Demo" and select your own options from the drop down list. If you choose "Go to URL" you can then select any website of your choice.

Another gem from GAOTD in my opinion. :-) Thanks GAOTD and Wondershare!

#9: It capturea as much as you want. You can edit the timescale later (reduce/expand, move/delete elements), etc. There are all sorts of balloons, shapes, text, image, etc., effects that you can add. WTF are you babbling about regarding linking to their website, backdoors, etc.? Smart aleck!

Wow thanks alot! i asked for this 2 days ago and here it is! thanks alot Wondershare and GAOTD!
Very use full. THis can caputure single windows. You can also add baloons with text in them for tutorials and otehr stuff. YOu can export as an .exe but it might seem risky for your customers to download, a SWF and something else. YOu can also FTP this to your site or blog.

Installed the software, and immediately my Trojan Virus scan software alerted me the dllmouse.dll had a known trojan inside it. The trojan was "cleaned" and now the software doesn't work because dllmuse.dll is a required component.
Did anyone else find this?
Can I get a clean copy of the dll?
I like the sound of this tool, but at the risk it might pose...

Amazing program! It keeps file size down by only taking screen shots and animating the mouse cursor from point A to point B. Plus, you can drag the mouse anywhere to fine tune.

To the people that keep saying that CamStudio and the other freewares make better videos: just look at the file sizes produced!! The first freeware above produced a 364 meg file, for a few seconds of video! CamStudio is much better, and probably the best choise if you need actual video, without the little mouse floating around with a mind of its own. Alright at 13 megs. But Democreator produced the same thing with less than 700k file size!! Yeah, not real video, but it looks enough like video for my purposes. And if you need to put this online (I do), this is so much more convenient, and you don't have to fiddle with video compression settings and such. Something to consider.

Thanks GAOTD for a really useful program.

Awesome, this program is excellent! It REALLY is something I've been needing (for making tutorials in my case). Downloaded and Activated ok (I used the mirror link) program worked like a charm and I made a decent looking .swf file with it in a relatively short time :).
Several output options as well, mouse movement recording can be turned off. Unlike #70 I had no problems whatsoever with that with it on or off. I didn't have/know about any of the alternative free softwares listed by the other commentators so this was a GREAT find for me.

Despite the mimimun requirement this ran great with Microsoft DirectX 8.1.

Same as # 64 "sweet!!!!!"
I'm a PC Tech/Programmer and often help people figure out how to do things/solve problems on their pc, so this is another great tool for me.

To anyone getting an Invalid Key message I would suggest uninstalling the program and then re-downloading the file from the alternate link and overwriting the original download file, you SHOULD get a new activation key with it.

I give it Thumbs Up and a 9 out of 10 (Nine only because of the people listing that there is free software that MIGHT do the same thing).

Thanks to everyone who posted their Free alternative software links/Info!

BIG BIG Thanks to Wondershare Software and to the GAOTD team for another great program!

This program is terrible. It does screenshots and video, but the video is put into screenshots and placed like a PowerPoint slideshow.

What is the worst part is that it records mouse movements and clicks, but not accurately. If you move the mouse it will put the movement on the previous "background", and then put the click on the next "background". This makes the mouse move while you are somehow typing in the demo (which looks like 2+ people are doing the demo somehow). That mouse movement then distracts from the typing, or whatever else is happening that you are trying to demonstrate, which makes the demonstration pointless.

They didn't think about the mouse movement enough before they made this application, which is very important in corporate demonstrations. I will unluckily be uninstalling this application and going with a different application that our company had found previously that can accurately record video demos. Also, we will keep SnagIt as our screenshot application as it has been reliable and effective.

Other downloads I've tried work fine. (Single user machine - administrator - XP-SP2)

I suppose I can demo it for 30 days, but was hoping I might actually USE the program.

Update to my earlier comment about Vista. As #59 says, you have to run activate.exe as administrator as well.

I've found within Vista that if an application (whether I download it from here or anywhere else) has any problems, if I uninstall and then re-install as administrator, that usually resolves the issue.

This is a fun little application!!

NOTE TO OTHER VISTA USERS!!

I'm on Vista as well and I've found that after I download anything from GotD I need to run the install as administrator (right click on app and chose Run as Administrator). As long as I do that, I don't lose the registration or get prompted for email address, etc.

There are apps that I've been using for more than a month with no problems.

Sorry I don't read all post after 41 because i'm tired : )
but I was problem with Vista Premium and activation, and now it's ok :

the activate.exe is not fully compatible with Vista UAC, so you must disable it temporally, and enable it after activation.
For that go to control panel and go to user account look at an advanced option to disable User Account Control.
Reboot windows , activate, and it's done, you can enable UAC now !

Thank you for your comments. After reading the comments from a couple days ago I found that I needed to run Activate.exe as an administrator (right-click on file) AFTER I installed the software for the program to register on Vista. At least this worked for me. You can check if this software is registered by clicking the first little icon in the top-right of the application window (on mouseover, it shows "Order"). Thanks again GOTD and Wondershare!

Another Vista user here... Activate.exe shows successfully activated, but when I install the program and run it the registration box pops up and shows I have 30 days left. I closed it and tried reactivating it but that did not work. I am running the program as an administrator- it seems to crash if I don't. Otherwise, great interface and this program looks like it has lots of potential. Thanks GOTD and Wondershare!

I second the recommendation for CamStudio (http://www.camstudio.org)

This looks good, but I have a few problems with it...

====================

When I click "Settings", I get an error dialog box that says "Unspecified error" but lets me click OK to get to the settings form.

When I click "Audio", I get an error dialog box that says "List index out of bounds (1)" and when I click OK I am returned to the main application.

When I click "Preview", I get an error dialog box that says "List index out of bounds (1)" and when I click OK I am returned to the main application.

====================

This is on a Windows XP SP2 (fully patched) virtual machine with absolutely no other software installed. I always test my GAOTD software in a VM before installing on my workstation.

I just got it to work with vista, I also had the problem with registering it.. I did a few things which i'm not sure which one was the fix but.. basically i did it like this...

I extracted the whole folder out, right clicked on activate.exe and clicked "run as administrator" then.. I think it still didn't work, or maybe it did.

But then, i went to i guess.. "start" and then to the "Wondershare" folder and instead of clicking on "DemoCreator" I right clicked on it and selected "Run as Administrator" and it seem to by pass that whole registration window... you can also right click, go to properties, then go to the compatbilitiy tab, go down, and check the box that says to run the program in administrator mode or something.

Try downloading again (use Mirror link). You don't have to register it, just get it to activate and that prompt screen should disappear.

Are you using XP, Vista or what?

Try closing it, then run "Activate" again. If that doesn't work, you may have to download it as Administrator (I don't have Vista, but that is what people have reported for other giveaways). If that doesn't work, maybe one of the Vista users who have been successful will offer some help - Let us know how you are doing.

Failing that, go back a couple of days and read through the comments for more specific explanations for Vista problems, or go to the forums (link right above where you posted) and you can get detailed help there.

Good luck.
