Wow! I left a comment that said the same things that everyone else is saying on here and it got censored. No swearing or name calling. I just said that if you don't like what is being offered, then don't download it and come back tomorrow but stop all childish crap about what you don't see offered here. I guess they showed me!!

I guess I will take my own advice and stay away on days that I know they are offering software I don't need. Jeez...

I like pie, pie is so yummy. I shove it in my face, and it fills up my tummy. Pie is for me, pie is for you. If you don't have a pan, just put it in your shoe. Pie is so wicked, pie is so nice. Throw it up again, so you can cat it twice. Pie really rocks, Pie really rolls. It you can't bake, yourself, trade it for your soul...

I'm afraid I have to admit that I'm a bit disapointed that today's offering was yet another screensaver. How many screensavers do we really need? I think I must have more than twenty decent ones that I got for free, and most I can reinstall if the files become corrupted, which I cannot do with any GOTD offers.

Nonetheless, count me in with those who will not give up on GOTD, if for no other reason than the one I really needed and missed one day when I was to sick to get to my computer. It was a folder tool, and I will not miss out on any tools that may be offered, regardless of limitations!

Thanks, GOTD, but a pass on this one.

It is okay, but will probably not use Dark Castle. It gobbles up CPU cycles. Even though I am not using the computer when it is running (duh), I think there may be more chance of it crashing the system. Went back to Waterlife, it doesn't use up the CPU nearly as much.

#80 Aileen, it's only a shame that GAOTD is not democratic. They censor substantial criticism, like the day they pushed spyware on us. My comment didn't appear then, I wonder if it does now.

Btw, don't mind screensavers. As long as it doesn't contain spyware.

No problem, graphics wise. Save your nerves and turn off the music. No awards on that ... score? Like the rain bit, but turned it off as it seemed alittle over used. Ignore the ingrates. Give us all the 3D screensavers you can dig up. The price is right and I don't mind at all. Thanks.

this is a nice screen saver but too unrealistic. since when does the moon appear underneath the clouds? A simple thought can make a huge difference in design!

Those who comment too much about screen savers and similar art works, I have only one thing to say: try yourself to draw something cool in 3D, then further animate what you've draw. So, after that, maybe you will understand why this might cost money and why you should be more tolerant to screen savers makers.

I lik the screensaver and it work fine on Radeon 9200SE.
Thank you Rixane Interactive and Giveawayoftheday for making/distributing this.

Started out ok, but as it played, there are streaks-dark lines. I don't think they are supposed to be there. didn't see the flowers, Bladedtoth, maybe I will have time to watch more, later.

Where do I go in the Forums to ask about the streaks?

Thank you

#30 Democracy has it that anyone can express her/his opinion freely, with no censorship. This is the reason everyone gets a bit of space to write what s/he thinks about the give away of the day. The fact that it is free does not cancel the right of personal opinion and judgement. We all thank GOTD for their initiative (which is in accordance with the general demand for free technology, education and communication applications). However, GOTD asks about our opinion, positive or negative; this is even more important. I'm sure that there is not anyone that feels constantly bad or constantly good for every application given for free at this site (except maybe you angel). Best Regards

This screensaver is chock full of moody goodness. Settings allow you to customize how dark and stormy the night is but not the speed of movement . If you ever wanted to lurk outside a castle on a rainy night, you might like this saver. Thanks for letting me try it, I like castles so this one is a keeper for me.

This one is probably one of the better screensavers that I've downloaded from here, it installed fine, runs smoothly, graphics look good, music sounds great. But those LOOOOOONG shots were kind of boring. I watched it for 2-3 minutes then switched back over to the free all the time Amazing Bubbles from the same folk. I'd like to keep the castle one on, because it IS rather neat (but why don't the torches go out in the rain! LOL), but am a little concerned about leaving that one going while I'm away from the computer; similar ones have been known to suck up all the system resources while I was away and I come back to find the system frozen. I don't know if this one will do the same, but I know that their Bubbles saver has proven itself to NOT crash the PC, so I switched back to that one.

Thank you, Fubar. And thank you Mik (#14) for the link where I found even more free screensavers at: http://www.acez.com/index.html .
I LIKE the occasional ss, and as someone already said, they are nice eye-candy. Rixane does pretty nice work. You should not expect computer art to look like a photograph, so I have no problems with the castle (but the 2D trees *are* a distraction). When Power Saver turns off my screen, I can still hear the music from the other room and I like the ambient background noise.
SO THERE!

DON'T stop with the screensavers, GOTD. As I have suggested before, you could move them to the Games page, where people complain all the time anyway. The rest of you, just come back tomorrow. Geez!

Good morning everyone! ;)

It's Sunday screen saver day! :)

This WILL HAPPEN every Sunday. It's not something new to this web site OR the initiative - it's a fact - and it's unlikely to change just because a few people don't like them.

If you just accept that Sunday IS screen saver day then you won't be disappointed. In fact you don't even have to stop by, if you're one that doesn't enjoy them. ;)

REVIEW:

At first glance I did think that this one was too dark and I could barely discern anything at all in the foreground. Changes in the settings were obviously required. The following are the changes I made:

* Gamma Control - 130%;

* Full screen anti-aliasing - 3 samples;

* David changed a bunch of NVidia GeForce 6200 settings for me.

* Textures appear more real, with more detail;

* Castle had way more detail;

* Layers of clouds, instead of a single layer;

* Trees in front of the castle have more definition and texture;

* Garden of skulls! Not discernible before;

* Tall ornamental grass foliage discernible AND green!

* Flame torches at entrance - incredibly real;

* All brickwork clearly defined;

* Inside shadows (of people perhaps?) in lit windows.

I'm sure if I'd watched it for longer than 20 minutes, I'd have noticed even more positive changes. This screen saver is a keeper for me, along with others I've kept from Rixane Interactive in the past.

I give only thumbs-up/down for screen savers, as they depend largely on what software you have installed on your machine and the personal settings that one chooses. Thumbs-up.

Thank you Rixane Interactive for returning to us. As always, I'll ensure that I recommend your site for screen savers to others. I still have my fingers crossed for the 'Canyon Flight,' to review! ;) That one, sounds truly promising!

Thank you GotD, personally I look forward to screen saver Sunday - it's a welcome break from system/work-related software. I can get pretty stressed out while working sometimes and just watching 15 minutes of a favorite (different,) screen saver, works wonders, providing you actually allow yourself to unwind.

They can be useful (to some) as well as eye-candy. :)

I hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday!
~ Swan

Ok guys and gals, yes it is another screen saver, but what the heck. Please, at the very least, appreciate the good software we get on other days. Free is free, appreciate it while you can. I have been putting off these comments, but I have reached my limit of tolerance. I am getting sick of those that do the hardball complaining about GOTD. GOTD is doing the best they can with what is allotted to them. I suppose now you hardball complainers what Photoshop free. I will still be coming to GOTD daily to see what they have, but I will start ignoring the hardball complainers, so don't waste your effort in typing what most of us find disgusting. Don't worry GOTD, there are stll some good people that really do appreciate every effort you put in by providing us with free software. Thank you GOTD.

#4, Get a life. There is more to this world than free software.
#8, Sorry, you're not funny. Try harder next time, I'll clap for you.
#15, Your graphics driver fails. Fire him. Hire a competent one.
#18, I don't what the hell's your problem, you have a lot more garbage on your computer. Don't blame your own computer illiteracy on others.

#1, #3, #6, #11, #16, #17, #19, and all the other complainers: You guys are a bunch of spoiled twits. Give a beggar a penny and he'll want a dime. GAOTD has no obligation to give you this stuff. They're doing you a favor, not being your personal slave. You're getting all of this for free. Let me put a strong emphasis around that. Free. If you're going to complain about free things, get the hell out of here and make room for those of us who appreciate it. While GAOTD's mission of "give away every good piece of software" is ambitious and commendable, it doesn't justify sitting on your dead asses and wasting their bandwidth every 24 hours just to complain more about free downloads.

This is a "comment" section not a "whatever we say goes." This isn't Digg where you get to be a bunch of retarded rebels that think they're cool by spamming illegal hex codes.

Grow up.

To the Developers:

If you are going to have wide-screen support, you can't just stretch the screen! You have to render additional information to the sides. Other wise you get a short and squished image which makes things like the moon look oval in shape.

I don't mind the odd screen saver, as it saves me reading through all the comments and then realising the program on offer is still over hyped junk. But $17.95 for a screen saver? What's that in real money - 10 euros? Maybe 12? Do people actually waste their hard earned money on such rubbish?

Product review below, but first, an observation on pathetic human behavior.

You know it just amazes me how people will complain about something that is offered free. Or beg them to stop offering something just because YOU don't like it? When I first discovered this site I was blown away at the concept... We're offered, for the most part, fully functional software to try out and all we have to do is open a web site and if we like what they are offering, click a link and download it. Then I started reading the comments. At first I thought oh they are just kids, but as time has gone by I realize, no, you aren't. You are adults in the chronological sense anyway, who have nothing better to do than complain about something that doesn't cost you a penny. Do you even realize how pitiful you sound whining about something that is being offered to you? If you don't want it, don't take it and shut up. No one is MAKING you download this. No one is forcing you to visit this site. You have the power to say no thank you, and go ahead and use whatever program you claim is better, cheaper, or whatever. Sheesh!

I thought the idea of this screensaver was cute so I downloaded it. It installed just fine since I FOLLOWED THE DIRECTIONS in the file named READ ME.

It runs smoothly and yes, it is cheesy and cute, It took all of 20 minutes of my life, most of it needed very little action from me so I could eat my breakfast and just click a button during the installation process, with one hand I managed to click give myself a little preview and play with the settings. By the time I was done with my coffee, I determined that it was ultimately not for me, but certainly worth a shot since. It's quite likely that many people will find it appealing because while I personally don't like it, I do not claim to speak for every single GOTD user like some arrogant people do. So I uninstalled it and that was a smooth process as well. No harm, no foul, and I look forward to what treasure I might find tomorrow.

I will pass on all screensavers from here on in as i have enough to keep me amused for the next 12 months.

I agree with all of the comments of #24. I still prefer the Ancient Castle screensaver, which allows you to take screenshots of the scenes. One major flaw that REALLY bothered me was that the moon is obviously in our atmosphere since there are sometimes very dark clouds behind it, and the seemingly dark clouds moving in front of it are apparently transparent as they don't cover up the moon at all, although you can see that it does go in front of it. The details of the castle are very detailed. The flowers make it look too cheery.
