I had no problems with the registration, but my German is better than my English. The navigation on the surface is much more complicated than with other products from Franzis.
At the moment I do not know yet. One must take time to study it thoroughly. I am sure it is worth the quality! Otherwise it is subjective how someone wants to spend his time. Nothing is for nothing!

It looks the same with me/ I am sure that it is worthwhile to take the effort to study it thoroughly, but it will cost in any case time.

Thank you GOTD and Franzis for this great program. Downloaded, installed and activated without incident. I like the interface - cool style and themes. Looking forward to putting the software to use at first opportunity. If it performs near as well as all other Franzis products I've used over the past 3 years or so, I'll be more than happy. Thanks again.

I followed their directions to change the language to English. It "took" fine after I restarted the program; now it's in English. I think this program will be very useful to me; another great program from Franzis! Thanks very much, GAOTD and Franzis.

Jumped through many hoops to install a program with an unreadable interface.
Unfortunately, have found it impossible to use as I can't see what is available in the interface.
From the comments it would appear that it is a useful program; what a shame it was not tested on people with less than perfect vision.
As there is no necessity for such a hideous interface I wonder what the developer was thinking about.
Maybe he put as much thought in the program as he did with the registration process, zero!
The best example I have seen of creating an absolutely ridiculous program to irritate the user.

I purchased Cutout 5 last year for $19.95. I previously used Microsoft Picture It!. While Picture It! is easier to use, it does not work with Windows 7. Learning to use Cutout 5 was hard but once you get the hang of it, it produces better results especially around the fine details like hair. I waited a long time for GOTD to offer Cutout before making my purchase. If you need to cut out items a lot, this is the program for you. I think Franzis programs are very useful, but difficult to master. Once you have a Franzis account, downloading and installing any other GOTD from them is a piece of cake.

Too many hoops to jump through just to get through the registration process. Forced to accept newsletters, even though you can change your choice later, but still that is just one more hoop to jump through. So, no thank you, I am not going to waste my time

I downloaded and installed okay using Win10 x64. I used Google translate at one point to tell me which button to click. The detail in the .txt file inside the downloaded .zip file were in English and easy to follow to complete the install. Along the way there was screen with three choices, 32 bit install, 64 bit install and "the manual". I installed the 64 bit. After I completed the install the screen with the 3 choices was still in my taskbar. So I clicked on "the manual" and it gave me a manual for Cut Out 4 in English. Maybe the developer read the above comments and fixed that. I have not yet used the program but the Cut Out 5 manual linked above looked interesting. The download and install process is not difficult if you read and follow the directions precisely.

I got it to cut out a person but the .pdf instructions left you one crucial step. They did not tell you that in order to complete the definition of the "inside" or "outside" area, you double-click when you have finished. I only found this by looking at a YouTube video in English for Cut Out 5. With that it worked pretty well.

I spoke too soon, perhaps threw too much shade. Received the ID and Registration more quickly than I was anticipating. Had no trouble getting to re-open in English. Only thing is, it looks or reads (manual) more complicated than I think it needs to be. The English manual for the 4 version comes with the program. Hopefully this will be fun.

I should have been scared off by these reviews, but I need a program like this. The waiting time to have an email sent to me with the ID and registration is long, I finally got an email which only told me I will be getting an email with the necessary information! Giveawayoftheday needs to be more discerning with the companies they promote. I may sound ungrateful, but it has been awhile since I have had zero problems with installing some of the programs. Meanwhile, still awaiting that 2nd email...

Hmm I thought having read nothing about the offering an all about the registration process.
WELL. Apart from me wait for the codes to be sent (Cos it says they are being sent) then after a min or two opened up the whole page wehere I learned I have to still click something the code delivery took around 5 mins.
entered that no probs and then got the prog up & running and looking DAMN good - then in German it asked soemthing about registratio so I pasted the long reg code in there AS WELL(Strange) and that window closed then clicked on the symbol resembling a typed doc and there I found how to change to English.
Saga yes but difficult - not really.
You guys at Franzis are good but you need to do better than this pathetic attempt to make it completely impossible for us all.
I am convinced from the Video that this is going to be fun AND useful.

Incredibly complex registration process. Why oh why is there no option to switch to English at the beginning of the whole process? I have managed to download and register but I am still in German and unable to locate a Menu button to do the switch so can go no further.
I fear that I will simply uninstall.

Cons already exposed. I can only add that this program is cumbersome (as cumbersome as the registration process uis), not intuitive and useless for non German speaking users due to the lack of English instructions.
No time to go further now, so I will try it later to decide to delete it or not.

M. H.,
Hi,
I think that Ashampoo may well be a a partner company to Franzis and their installer seems to be exactly the same software, albeit through a different wrapper than the Giveawayversion which is the German version. In this version, English is offered only as an option once the software is registered and installed, not as an English version of the software.
I don't know why one version installs better. Like many users , I tried to get the Giveawayversion version to work, but I ended up uninstalling it completely and installed what seems to be exactly the same software available through Ashampoo. It worked!

Where to start...? The installation registration... /me sighs... (enter the registration key again after restart that initiates the Standard English option...)
NOW MY REAL CONCERNS
I got very excite to see this type tool for images BUT even after the ridiculous required agreement to store my personal information AND DATA (whatever "data" refers to...) there is no help files other than the installation accessible User Manual which is written entirely in the German language. Upon clicking the translate button it is required to purchase a program from Foxit and while I do use the free Foxit PDF reader I have no intentions of being extorted to buy any other Foxit products. Without a User Manual this complex and apparently worthy application is totally useless to me as it is not intuitive.
The registration process requires that we "temporarily allow" all scripts from links in the page if we use NoScript... I tried the task of allowing each individually... It took me almost 20 minutes to register the product and that in itself is excessive. Why is my exact physical location required? Privacy is a necessary consideration involved in computing and it seems this product is not interested in protecting our privacy. What data is being stored with this product? As it scans all the computer to find images... how much recognized data is being recorded as agreed to in registration?
Maybe I would not mind so much if there was a multilingual user guide... If I'm not able to learn how to use this application it will be uninstalled and I will ask my registration be deleted along with all personal "required" data...
This leaves me frustrated and intimidated...

Hi, Franzis Software is (ist:)..generally very good and interesting, but I cannot recall any Giveaway that doesn't involve 'troublesome' Registering of their Products.
Franzis Site partially remembers settings to log in (what's a point of having Account with You?), always appear in German (for those not speaking German involves guessing), after good few attempts to get it correct correspondence arrives in German as well. Yes, any 'idiot' can figure out what to copy and paste from that e-mail later into the halted installation window on Desktop..
Dear Franzis, Guys! Why are You making this whole experience so unpleasant and don't cater for at least these two languages (German and English, or for that matter many other) in proper and decent manner when promoting and introducing something that supposed to bring pure joy and pleasure to use (not to mention: purchase!)??, please!!
Why does it ALWAYS have to be a bitter-sweet Experience? Why do English speaking users look at Your promotions on GOTD with mixed feelings: Oh good, something from FRANZIS, oh dear, bet it'll be the same old rigmarole with obtaining Reg Keys.. And IT IS!! I know that one should not 'look gifted horse in a mouth'.., but time after time, whilst each of Your Product is being improved and patched with newer ideas - PRESENTATION needs to be IMPROVED too!! Upon installing - choice of Language ought to appear straight there and then - so AFTERWARDS everything inside actual Software Console bears that Language, and that Language only! Goes for Help/Manuals too. Learning curve of Your Software(s) is steep enough without further adding to utter frustration!??
Please note - this isn't some Demand on my part. Just a polite REQUEST.
Yes, I'm looking forward to try, use and like 'Cut Out4'. I'm genuinely interested in obtaining clean and decent 'cut-outs' as I work on creative photography a lot and deal with separating objects all the time to be used as layers. My expertise goes back to Adobe Photoshop when I managed to get my first grip on cutting objects with quite a success, and later moved on to do the same creating 'tubes' in Corel PSP. Now I'll see how good a job 'Cut Out4' will do. So far - I did not manage to translate it's Manual into English. I would be very grateful if someone from Your Team could point us, English speaking Folk to English version of it. Thank You.

Looks like a good piece of software, but the help file is entirely in German. Other than that, the interface isn't intuitive, which is not a problem if anyone can find a good help file in different languages. I'll keep it for now, but if I can't find help I may have to uninstall. Thanks anyway.

The site is not very easy to navigate, with the heading blocking much of the view. If similar mentality applies to its products, I wouldn’t expect them to be particularly user friendly.
So I had problem finding cutout programs and prices by navigating, but there seem to be several versions, of which we are offered the cheapest:
Cutout 4 Classic price? (here mentioned as $29.95)
Cutout 5 Standard: price?
Cutout 5 Pro: Euro 68.68 for upgrade
Cutout 6: from 69 to ?
Cutout 6 Pro: from Euro 99 to ?
We cannot complain about getting something for nothing, but the alternatives could have been made clearer.

tomcat,
Yes, Franzis doesn't always make it easy. They have their projects-software site, both .com & .de, which only has some of their software, but more ad copy for what they do list. Then they have what seems to be their regular [& much larger] site: franzis[.]de . There it's a bit sparse on individual program details, but you can see everything they sell -- in this case that would be:
franzis[.]de/fotografie/freistellen
But, there are also a few limited variants they sometimes give away, like the Elements version of Cutout. And, from time to time Ashampoo runs promos on different Franzis software.

Plenty of pop-ups during and immediately after the long installation - all in German.
My German is poor, but I managed to get thru' - find the Menu - and so changed to English.
Sadly, help files are in German too with no option to change. (Comment?)
A prominent click for tutorials would be a big help too.
Franzis are keen collectors of PI, no details as to what, when or why, opt out is a must once install is done.
Other Franzis software I've tried has been pretty good and is well used.
Thanks GOTD, and Franzis.

I guess this program is mostly a background remover, like we often have here, but probably better, because Franzis products are usually pretty good. The problem is... I am doing my best to sort it out, but I am not very successful so far. Although I switched the interface to English, as indicated, I found nothing to help but a 31 page PDF manual... in German (through the Help button up right). Cut out 4 is seemingly unknown on Franzis site. I got hold of my old German school textbooks and I keep trying. Stay tuned. :)
Save | Cancel
UPDATE: actually it does much more than just removing backgrounds, but the learning curve to go beyond basic image enhancement is a little bit steep, at least for my old brain cells. There are tutorials on Youtube in German and English, but that §%$*£@ PDF manual should be made available in English.
It seems (it is nowhere indicated) that what we are offered here is the "classic" version:

PS - The liquify ("Modify shape") tool is real fun!

Installed as per readme file on win 7 64 bit. Window control menu at top left hand corner does not work. Dark theme looks ok, but no option to change theme or font size. The font is very dim. Does not support drag and drop of a single image which is what I expected. I dont need the functionality of the windows explorer inside this app.
Window does not move or close using keyboard shortcuts. Not intuitive to me.
Image editing appears to be in place edits.
