Very disappointed to find that i missed downloaded day for this. I am really looking for this kind of software, all the freeware outthere came with low quality of pictures. Can we have a rerun on this one, please... Thanks GOTD. U r the best!

My first GAOTD download - installed easily, and on my first try I was able to develop an animated SWF to use on my personal web page. It's full featured and provides lots of innovative ways to be used to add a little attention grabbing graphics on your web page. Well done!

@#62,Lu Hulu: Yes, of course I've tried it with WindowsME and yes, the system requirements are wrong in that way - it does not work with WindowsME (error message says it requires a newer version of Windows)!

Thank you very much for this product. I like it a lot, and what I particularly appreciate about it is that, unlike 3D Text Commander, it includes presets so I can get an idea about how the technique works. My only quibble - I created an animation, and saved an animation, but there is nothing that actually runs the animation once you've created it.

Once in while there is a real gold mine in GAOTD. This is it! The programe installed perfectly on XP. I created some graphic designs with powerpoint and saved them to "jpg". I uploaded those images and used the Cover Commander 3.0. Perfect. I would have bought it for $70 bucks - but it was free. I love this site. Thanks Insofta Development and GAOTD!

Intend to use this to create my own icons. Great program. Ignore the negative reviewers... They get something for nothing and still they complain. Thumbs Up! Very easy to use.

A really nifty program, thanks very much. One small request: when selecting the image, it would be great if the dialogue box had a 'preview' block - just something small, the way many other graphics packages have.

Installed it on top of my version 2.3, also from GOTD. Although I have no actual need for this software, I have fun using it to make various icons for various uses. Easy to understand, self-explanatory interface, without much need for Help. Thank you for such a fine software.

This downloaded to Vista and ran without problems. Proboably obvious to everyone but me, this does not output templates you can fold into boxes - it is purely Virtual, for web pages.

Because of comments mentioning two different scans that said this software "inserting" code into windows, and the developer not answering and saying why....
Not going to risk a DL.

Looks great with my paintings on the "box" option. However, in swf the size parameters for the box are not "taking" in firefox browser. Doesn't matter what size I make the box, it still shows up the same size on output - which is huge - no matter what size my source image. Also the File / Save Animation / Browse button has a glitch from time to time where it won't browse. Hope I can get it all to work. Very nice!

#75 - The is no trial messages or watermarks on output. Did you properly enter in the registration information that is in the text file that is included in the .zip file?

For what it's worth regarding animation rendering speed:

The .swf output isn't too bad. It's a bit of a wait, but no more than is to be expected with animated 3D rendering.

For me the .avi output is another story. It take soooooo long.

A workaround for this is to save it out as a .swf, and then bring that .swf into a conversion program.

I saved as .swf and then brought that into Sothink SWF To Video Converer that I got here at GAOTD.

It's much faster this way if you need an .avi.

Also, I'm not getting any type of warning at all from Avast Antivirus.

I haven’t posted any reviews on any of the Giveaways here in awhile but after trying today’s giveaway, I thought I’d drop a few lines about this product.

Opening the program you get a very easy understandable interface. Four tabs to work from. First tab choosing a template, next tab for inserting your design photo, another tab for shadowing and the last tab for reflections. Moving the 3D template around in any position is handy to get the best views before saving a project. Nice to have.

First problem I had with this program is that when you go to browse and insert a photo or design, it will not allow me to see my choices in my photo folder in thumb nail view. All my photo files would just show up with windows default icons. After a few right clicks in the file box switching from all the other modes like detail or list, the thumbnail view just doesn’t work. I’m first thinking some where I might have done something in my computer settings somewhere, so I open a few other photo editors, converters and whatever other photo software I have. (And coming here every day I’ve seemed to have acquired many good ones too.) They all work fine in showing my photos in the file box in thumbnail mode.
If you don’t know the name of your photo file then already this is a handicap when pressed for time and more difficult in deciding which design or photo to first choose from making this very time consuming.
I had to work around this by having this program in a small window view and have my photo album folder open in thumbnail view side by side with this program so I could see what photo or design I wanted to try.

To top it off I never got to finish a project with this program it keeps freezing up before I get to save anything, and happens no matter what part of the project I’m at. It crashes when I load a photo, it crashed at times when moving the design around, crashed adding a photo and it even crashed when hitting cancel. It seemed to freeze when ever it felt like crashing. Had to use the task manager to shut it down each time.

In fairness I do have Insofta 3D Text Commander and that works great. I have no problem at all with it. Don’t know why today’s program shouldn’t work.

All drivers updated as well as directX, all netframes installed. The only updated I haven’t done on this computer is installing xp sp3.

Windows XP Pro Media Center Edition SP2
Duel Core Pentium D830 3 GHz
Onboard Intel 829945G chipset / Intel GMA Graphics 3D Accelerator 950
2 gig ram

Seemed like a good program to try out, but for the license prices they have for this software and if this program is geared towards the pro media base, then there’s no reason this 3 year old XP Pro MCE couldn’t run this.

As always thanks GAOTD and Insofta for trying this but too bad it didn’t work for me.
Of about 300 or so programs I’ve tried here only about 10 have ever given me any problems counting today’s.

Downloaded, installed it and I did so because of an ebook I need a cover for to make it more marketable and visually appealing on my website, therefore it's very useful. A few of you people act like you're being forced at gunpoint to download and install GAOTD software. If you don't need it, don't waste your own time but please don't speak for all of us when you say it's worth nothing. I don't play video games but I bet I'd get jumped all over if I said a game was worthless, which obviously it would be to me. Thanks to the developer, nice software!

The program installed, registered, and ran without a problem on my HP WinXP (SP3) computer as did the previous giveaway version v2.9. I do have two concerns:

1. In uninstalling v2.9 prior to installing the v3.0 update, I was given feedback from the programs own uninstaller that it could not remove 2 keys in the Registry nor the Data folder in the Program directory. I noted it didn't uninstall the individual Program folder, either. This doesn't make for a clean uninstall process.

2. I've commented before and here it is again: When we're being offered an upgrade to a previous giveaway, I'd really appreciate feedback on the giveaway page or the included text file whether we need to uninstall the earlier version first or that the updated program will install over it, beside it, or uninstall the prior version itself.

@2, @79: Code injection is caused by Armadillo copy-protection system which this software uses. Many softwares use this protection system (for example, most products from Eltima Software or Virtuoza which were offered here in the past). This system just protects the software from reverse-engineering and does not do any harm to your system.

Weeeeehaaaaaa! An alreader great program is even BETTER with this new version!

First all...people this is NOT a CD cover designer. This is what is termed 'box shots'. You can see here some examples I made with the last version of this that was offered here what a little of what this is/does.

Okay...that out of the way....

The MAJOR thing with this new version is the ability to now export animations in .swf, .avi or animated .gif! It's awesome!

If any of you have the last version, don't pass the new release up! I almost did, and then I actually read what the updates are, so I grabbed it.

If anyone hasn't gotten this yet, and you think you need it, grab it now!

You do not need to un-install the older version first. I insalled this and put in the registration info and it updated my old version.

It installed, activated and runs fine.

Think you may not have a need for this? Be creative! I intend to use this to add some effects and interest to slide shows. And now with the animation....WOW!!!

My one little nitpick is that it doesn't support transparancy in .swf output. It also says no transparency in .avi, but I'm pretty sure that the only video format that does support transparency anyway is Quicktime .mov files.

THUMBS UP for this updayed Cover Commander! Thank you Insofta and GAOTD! You rock!

#78 Fubar,

Really enjoy your inputs here. I have always relied on your inputs than on others here, so keep it up.

With regards to the code injection problem faced by us, is it true that only when the software Cover Commander is running, then we see this behaviour? Can we find this process running when we view Task Manager? If we can find it there, can we kill it then?

@1 NguyenVinhDung,
The "code injection" (see comment 2) is also noted by Agnitum firewall. I feel an application has no valid reason to exhibit the malware behavior of altering the contents of other programs. (that behavior also makes it *not* compatible with Vista) I must therefore give today's offering a thumbs down.

Same as some other Insofta products, has some undocumented mouse features in the preview window: left-drag rotates horizontally and vertically, right-drag zooms, mousewheel zooms, shift-left-drag rotates horizontally, ctrl-left-drag changes perspective.

For those asking about process memory injection, hanging when browsing images, incorrect response when browsing images, super-slow when browsing images, etc., that's probably a problem with the tools used to develop the software. Like a lot of software, it requests direct disk access when it doesn't need it, which you can block. The process memory injection is actually a form of window hooking; on Vista, this is to the Desktop Window Manager API. While this is generally harmless, it isn't necessary, and is obviously causing some problems in some software environments. While it makes no difference whether or not I allow these behaviors in Cover Commander, Agnitum Outpost (I use the Security Suite, but the Firewall probably does the same thing) permits blocking these behaviors without blocking the program, so I block them just to be safe.

An interesting little product, however even as a free product, with the trial message that appears over the rendered picture it's fairly useless. At least that should have been removed for this "free version", but perhaps some of the other features could have been removed instead until upgraded to the full version?

I installed the program while running a process/memory inspector, and sure enough, the software did attempt to modify code belonging to window's components. It may be that GOTD's version is infected. I doubt that the author would have put this in on purpose.
VIPRE was able to prevent it from infecting anything, and cleared up the install so it's fine.
