#196. I know that a system crash and the rebuild is an awful experience, having just got over one two weeks ago. To my mind the comments reflect the angst of that experience rather than anything I have seen of the ConceptDraw products or people.

Living in New Zealand and using a lot of software from US companies with no local support means relying on overnight responses to problems due to time zones. Therefore getting a poor or sloppy response to a problems means effectively a 48hr turn around and really high blood pressure. Not something I have experienced from the ConceptDraw people.

Surely the issue here is a lack of backup from the user, as in an emergency you can download a trial version of the current software and run that. I have not read the license agreement, but the norm is 12 months support unless you are paying an annual support fee.

I do not know many companies that would offer suuport this long outside of the EULA, if the user lost his software (disks or downloads) for a three year old version of the software.

Bad Customer Service....
I have purchased ConceptDraw V Standard from the Internet for USD149.00 in November 2004.
I was quite happy with the software until my Mac crashed two weeks ago and with it I have lost all the software.
Now since over one week I try to get in contact with the ConceptDraw company to get a copy of the software but nobody is interested to answer…what about after sales service, or the “famous” customer service = customer is everything….yeah right, sorry to say, but I slowly going in the direction of supporting pirate software…why should I pay a lot and nobody takes care…right? With the pirate software I would pay less and get as well less-no support.
My recommendation is, when you don’t need support ever you might be ok with ConceptDraw otherwise get an other one and even a better one cheaper.

@ 188 I think you do not understand, I can not download the file because gotd never sent me anything on may 11. I have the same thing as #187, conceptdraw came the same day as may 12 screen saver offer, with no way to down load the file.

@ #185 Ron Coleman

Below is a solution from Bubby. This worked for Kail and myself. I put it here in case you don't check the forums (you should if you don't) :)

@ByteMaster and Kail,

I may have a solution for you...

If you go to the folder:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\Runtime

You should see a file called ISProBE.tlb. If you rename this file and then immediately attempt to run the Conceptdraw setup.exe it will create a new ISProBE.tlb which will now be updated to a size of 116 KB. The install should work correctly at this point.

Good Luck.

My offer for this download came with my May 12 screensaver download.
I clicked it, only to find out it was not available today. I kept the email if you want to see it!
Any chance of still getting it since this was not my miss, but your mess up?

Correction for 181.........Start > All Programs > to select (run the intended software) and then right mouse click. Not start > run. Sorry.

For 179, try right mouse click on the desktop icon or the start > run > program name to see if "run as" appears. If so your Win ME version has Microsoft's virtual machine software included. Select that and a menu should appear RUN AS and select NT which will possibly help the software run. I haven't used ME that much but VM was included in most all MS o/s until about 2003. If run as does not appear it may not have been an option fo ME.

Also, may try MS website for a download for ME or NT by that name or now named "virtual pc" eventhought support has been discontinued but downloads are still available. Be sure to read the application info page >>> before downloading as their software sometimes auto installs and some cannot be deleted, such as DirectX 9 without third party software.

Hope this helps,
Ken

I think the time the activation is availible is automatic. For instance, they didn't fix thier servers for the daylight savings time change, so for a few weeks it was an hour off, then it changed during the previous standard time of DST so now its set properly.

If they were manually doing it, you'd think they'd have noticed that.

As per 114, I registered my copy at their website and entered "GiveAway of the Day" and was accepted with a confirming email quickly sent. Possibly those with dialup could try this registration method advising downloading delays and be sucessful with their free trial download. Be worth a try.

Thanks again GAoTD team for super fine software.

And spread the word about this site as I believe this will continue to bring us the really nice software.

I was downloading over 4 hrs (dial-up)- staying up until 2 a.m. local time (deadline) just in case it would finish downloading and I could quickly activate/install. Time ended, no program.
Please repeat this offer/ enable something that would let dial-ups complete and install up to a certain time after the deadline.
Thanks.

Same as #6. On dial-up would take a long time to download. Would be nice if files tat large were split for those of us in the boonies who can't get bband/dsl. I want it and know what it can do, but I download at 5kbps and there's less than an hour left to try to download a 59mb file, don't see it happening. Looks like a very nice proggy, congrats to all who were able to get it.

This seems a briliant piece of software. Like #6 and #51 I am on dial-up. Am not sure if I will be able to download it all before the cut-off time. Have been downloading for 2.42 hours and have 1.28 minutes to go. Won't quite take "all day". Any chance of an extension? Wish I had woken up earlier. Anyhow thankx 4 trying. GAOTD are really on the mark here. Thankx to CONCEPTDRAW and all the other software publishers who are giving us a chance to get software we would never otherwise dream of.

Hi. Please help me if you can.
I downloaded, activated and set up twice. Each time when I click on the desktop icon, I get a:

Microsoft Viual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program:C:\program files\CS ODESSA\conceptdraw VI\CD.EXE
The application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more info.

Please advise me as to what I can do. Thank you!

125:
Yeah sure, but what is the point of a fresh reinstall of windows if you do a registry backup and restore?
Unless you get everything in your computer to EXACTLY the same state as it was before the reinstall, you will have issues from the registry not matching how windows was setup. And if you are trying to match your old windows exactly, what was the point of format/reinstall anyway? If its a new larger hdd, just clone the partition over to the new hdd.

"OLE initialization failed. Make sure thats the OLE libraries are the correct version."

Any ideas? :\ Ive tried uninstall and reinstalling several times but to no avail. I get the same error every time.

I meant to say that that there is a free ConceptDraw Viewer that allows you to send the projects to your friends. Quoting from the page:

In ConceptDraw Viewer you can open, view and print documents created in ConceptDraw VI, ConceptDraw MINDMAP, ConceptDraw WebWave, ConceptDraw NetDiagrammer.

ConceptDraw Viewer also supports opening Visio XML files and other popular graphic formats, including JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, PSD, VDX, TGA, TIFF etc. "

Reinstalling after a nasty crash'n'Burn is simple for most of these programs I Backup the program in question Reg files only by selecting
it in the registery tree Like... 'Computer Systems'>'ConceptDraw VI Standard'. and export that one to a disk or elsewere safe, So finding it on another computer and importing the reg key to your computer would work the same as restoring a backup of yours. then install the app and wallah! just as getting it on the day.

Now this is a nice piece of software! Thank you GOTD and CSO for a quality offering. Installs flawlessly (on XP), opens fast, and seems quite a powerful application. Even in it's limited state it's very impressive! A must dwnld.

I Give 8.5 out of 10. Addition of remaining templates and features (i.e... offer Pro version)), I would've given the full 10 points. But never-the-less, thank you both much for a great tool even a beginner could navigate easily!

You could use this for anything from simple maps to the family reunion, designing your next basic office, or even your next complex building layout, ...floor by floor! ...and much much more. Need to layout your own electronic schematic? You can!! Plenty of uses for this one. Don't miss out!
