Hi Jan, thank you for being present here.

I have 3 questions:

1/ When you say "You also get the option to sync and share your clips across all your PCs (available in this giveaway)" does that really mean that this "option" is available for free in this giveaway?

2/ If yes, to share/sync my clips between several PCs, do I have to install/activate the giveaway on each one?

3/ When you say in your registration tutorial (link in the readme text file) "You are getting for free not only this version but also all the updates published within the next 365 days", does that include the syncing with Android expected in the third quarter of 2017?

Reply   |   Comment by ouialaraison  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+21)

Hi ouialaraison,

Thank you for your questions. Here are the answers:

1) Yes, definitely yes, the cloud sync across PCs is included in today's giveaway.
2) Yes, you will use the same activation data on all your PCs
3) Yes and no. The Android version will be for free but will by default sync only first 10 clips. If you will need more then there will be some smaller fee, not decided yet how much. However with this giveaway you get for free all new PC versions withing the next year.

PS: Yesterday we realized a smaller bug with images sync. It is fixed already but not in the published version. So please do not be scared if your images seem not to sync correctly - you will be informed about new version available automatically within a week or so.

Jan,
Hello,Jan!

We really need the support of the Russian language and Windows XP
The program - fast(speed) and unusual!
Thank you!

Hi green8,

я говорю немного по-русски but that would not be enough for me doing the translation. The program is however prepared to be translated to major languages and Russian will surely be in the first wave. Let's hope it happens this year!

Windows XP will however probably not supported. Theoretically it is possible but XP is not officially supported even by MS... Let us think about that...

Jan,
Thank you!
We have already talked with you in the past!
Thanks for the help.
People questioned the reliability of the storage of personal data, with the support of your program of cloud computing!

Will the program the opportunity to disable these features?

For the support of the Russian language in the future - thanks!

Hi green8, thank you for making me aware there is a RU version of GOTD. I commented there.
As mentioned before I will create a dedicated page on Clipa.Vu website where I explain more in detail how the sync works but and should repeat here already now: Of course there is an option to disable Cloud Sync. Actually more than that: By default it is not enabled at all! It must be your active steps to enable it. Traditionally (I have been developing different clipboard managers since 2006) all works ONLY locally. Cloud Sync is an OPTIONAL new feature created in 2016.

Thank you again for making me more aware how sensitive the cloud topic is. I will try to explain as much as possible.

Best regards
Jan

This probably won't matter to anyone, but if it comes around again I should point out that it trashes the Control key handling in VMWare Workstation clients (with Clipa-Vu running on the host). Took me ages to work out what was causing the problem.

Note this reverts to a non-registered version after three months and you either have to perform three social media publicity steps for them, or to pay, to get the full functionality back. IMHO this needs to be stated if it is to be given away again.

Thanks for including this on GAOTD. I'm currently trying several of these clipboard extensions trying to find one that gives me the character AND the word counts of highlighted pieces of text or the clipboard content in a convenient manner in as fewer clicks as possible and keeps a history of my clips. This app is very well produced and comes close to being ideal for my core purpose, which is to copy text, edit it up/down to a specific number of words or characters and paste it back into the space in the main software. All in the minimum number of mouse movements and clicks, while fitting in with my work flow.
Suggestion for improvement: would it be possible for the authors to add the word count next to the "Xxx chars" on the clip details information and repeat this info at the bottom of the Edit window? And now the really useful feature request - would it possible to update the char and word count info on the Edit screen in real time 'on the fly'?
This would be really useful to me and other people, e.g. filling forms with maximum char or word counts, press releases, web page content, articles of all kinds, by removing the iterative process of edit - count - copy/paste - edit - count copy/paste .. until the text fits.

Hi Raymond,

This would actually be quite easy to implement!
Can I ask you to copy your original text above and send it to support@clipa.vu? That has number of advantages: 1) I creates a task for us 2) Once feature implemented I can give you a preview of that feature for feedback

Thank you in advance.

setup and installed ok. thanks for the year free update.

some parts of the UI or settings are partially cut because I have large font theme and higher DPI settings
mostly from the bottom or right side. for example I see settings and ? for help but the history icon is cut off
in the settings advanced, single clip checkbox and text just shows about half. not sure if there is more I missed.

one feature I like in ditto, it plays a sound on clip capture. this is helpful because I use autocopy in browsers and IRC
I forget not every program does autocopy, so I have pasted thinking I copied ok but never copied... can cause trouble.

stupid win7, every time a new program icon sits in the tray it's not available until I go into taskbar properties
and set show icon and notifications. no suggestions please, I've tried them all. it's just broken for some reason
probably so I will want to upgrade to win10. thanks Obama

BTW, the current theme and colors look fine.

Reply   |   Comment by e0  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

Hello Obama,

OK, we will try to fix DPI dependent behavior. If you manage to create a screenshot and shot it to support@clipa.vu it would be a nice little help.

Having a sound would be a neat enhancement. Easy to implement but I guess we will set it disabled by default as I can imagine many users will not like it. If you had any particular sound in mind, please share again on support@clipa.vu.

Thanks a lot for inspiring ideas!!!

All the best

Okay, I've installed and activated a lot of programs from GAOTD and never had a problem... I've even laughed at people who do have problems when the insttructions are so simple and clear (sorry!). But I laughed too fast. :-)

I have downloaded, installed, and run the Clipa.vu program. The "readme" file says to run the program and click the "free red corner ribbon." Except there is no such ribbon, indeed nothing red in the entire program window, or in the Settings window. It's now only 45 minutes until the deal ends at midnight so I'll probably miss it.

This sounds like a very helpful program (and a very friendly and responsive team!). I'll try the trial version and if I find it useful I'll gladly pay the $7.77 for the full program, it's not that much. Wish me luck!

Questions for the Vendor:

extracted Readme.txt from the downloaded ClipaVu-rt2710.zip reads:
"... 5.There is also the registration tutorial provided by the developer
http://clipa.vu/giveaway-gotd/ ..."

Well I read the tutorial you kindly provided and it suggests that I have to use an PayPal email address "... the key has been sent to your PayPal email address ..."

hmmm PayPal ... Personally I genuinely dislike using PayPal: because I can't license software in the name my family have always called me since I was knee-high to a grasshopper (which is NOT as per my name on my credit card)

______________________________

Question #01: Can the GiveawayOfTheDay version be upgraded at no extra cost or will any upgrades/updates cost me exactly how much ?????

Question #02: Do you offer a discount to GiveawayOfTheDay User's ?????

Question #03: Licensing: So if I decide that I want to install this program on more computers in my house: is the cost $7.77 USD per computer, OR, $7.77 per household ?????

Question #04: What is Your Upgrades / Updates Policy: Are Upgrades/Updates ONLY available at no extra cost for the current version (for example meaning version 4.01 thru 4.99), OR, Are Updates/Upgrades free for the life of the program/user (ie. a "Lifetime License" as many vendors describe their license) meaning the user only ever has to PAY ... ONCE ?????

Question #05: License Verification Does the program require "Online Product Activation" to confirm the user's name/ email address and registration details, OR, only by email, or ?????

______________________________

I'm now going to attempt to install the product on 1x Windows 7 computer although I do have a few more in the household that the program may work well on.

Peter

Hi Peter,

Wow, that is a lot of questions. Answers to most of them you will find here

My comments:

Ad PayPal screenshot: That is because normally (out of this Giveaway) the only payment method we are able to support so far is PayPal. We could have modified the screenshot to avoid misunderstandings - that is true.

ad 1) The version you got you can use for the rest of your life for free. The same is valid for every version that will be released within the next 365 days - all updates in 1 year period are free. If you want to update in February 2018 you will be asked for 7.77...

ad 2) Discount on $0.00? Not really ;-) I think the overall offer is very generous already...

ad 3) For non-giveaway users 5 computers per license, for giveaway users 3

ad 4) Explained above and on the provided link.

ad 5) Yes - the online activation - one time only - after this done program is licensed and activated for both online and offline usage.

Thanks for a good questions, we will try to make FAQ out of it...

Best regards
Jan

Quickly and easily installed, registered and activated. Just in time for me. Have been through a lot of these types of programs but never found one I really liked, until now. This program is quite nice. It will take a little time to learn, but its most interesting. The only complaint I have is the program is a little buggy on my computer. But hopefully the first update will smooth things out. [Win 7-64].
I don't care for Clouds, except for some small unimportant pictures. Can I back up my clips on my computer? I had been using CintaNotes, which is not really a clip board, but nice to copy clips to with date, time, and alphabetical listing. It does allow for backing up locally.

Big Thanks to you Jan for hanging in. Most developers dont. I will be happy to promote this little gem!
Thank you Clipa Vu and GOTD.

Hello, glad to read that! When you mentioned buggy, please provide more detailed description on support@clipa.vu so we know exactly what to fix.
The request to backup or export/import the clips collections keeps popping up and should not be that difficult to implement. Let's see how quickly we will be able to finish it.
You are very welcome and I thank you for your contribution!

Jan: Thank you for this very interesting program. I'm able to use it after just playing around a bit. I can see it will take a little time to learn all the tricks. From what I see so far it will be worth the effort.

As others have posted it would help if the help tips appeared after about 1 second rather than 4-5 seconds. And some of the icons are just too small to figure out what they are or might do.

In all the years I've been using GOTD you are one of the best of the authors of programs in answering all the questions so clearly and completely as you have today. I really want to compliment you on that. It will be interesting to see what changes you make during the year.

I currently use ClipCache Pro ( www.xrayz.co.uk/clipcache/ ). I frequently use it to merge a number of text clips into one combined text clip. It drops out all text formatting in the remaining clip. I have set options so that after the combined clip is created the original clips are deleted.

I have been looking for a suitable replacement for years. I am worried that ClipCache development has peaked and is almost dead in the water.

Does Clipà.Vu support this type of function..?

Hello,
first couple of beefs:
- on a 2516x1440 resolution screen the settings do not show all text properly
- no screen tooltips`even after application re- start
- I miss seeing a "normal help", the link to your page help shows a big bottle and a not very obvious search magnifier glass graphic. Perusing it to find "Guids" got me an unhelpful June 26th text by Jan (is it usually Jan or Honza, btw?) with a 'read more' that goes right back to the bottle. I am ashamed to say that it took me a few tries to realize that there is some useful stuff much further down; only then I find that I should ignore Guids...
- seems a bit slow, for short clips like the italics tag
- would like an option to paste with a single click on the clip.
Otherwise looks interesting, still testing, to see if I get to like it enough to keep :-)
Regards Emil

Reply   |   Comment by Emil Kucera  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Hi Emil,

- I will check the resolution mentioned.
- Tooltips exist but their delay was wrongly set to too high number of 3-4 secs. Will be changed soon.
- Help will be improved - but only the online one - not having mental powers to write down the 'normal' one - at least not yet ;)
- Settings > Advance tab will be your friend in reaching single click and direct pasting

Vzdy nadseny, kdyz mohu domlouvat detaily cesky, takze urcite odepisu na cokoli zaslane na support@clipa.vu.

This does look like a keeper. No doubt about it. And the addition of a years free updates goes beyond the vast majority of give-aways we see here, so thank you for that.

I am interested in the dropbox sync between computers, but my laptop is not with me tonight. Will the package be installable onto a second machine after the give-away is over?

The same question would apply to any additional computer we would want to install it on for using cloud sync. As we are using a shared serial number, how will this be handled ?

I have been involved in software creation for many years. I have used Clipà.Vu Clipboard since it's early development period. The developer has always been very responsive and worked diligently to add needed features and improve the program. I've tested most of the clipboard managers (free and paid) and I really feel that none are more reliable or easier to use. This is a great program (well worth the $7.77 usually charged) and I encourage everyone to try it. Thanks Jan for putting so much time and effort into this - it is now my favorite clipboard manager. When I saw the description of this software I didn't think that I'd have much or any use for this type of software but having read the reviews curiosity got the better of me and having tried it out I've discovered it does much more than I thought it did and easy to use, pleasing on the eye. It's obvious that Jan has put considerable thought in to creating this software. It's also nice to see the developer actively supporting users and replying to their questions. Thanks Jan, I'll make good use of this. Other developers should follow Jan's example.

Reply   |   Comment by Ck  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Hello Ck, There should not be any problems running both side by side for some time but be aware that both your old clipboard manager and Clipa.Vu will gather each others clips. I never personally tested ClipCache but I do commonly run our old gadget clipboard manager together with Clipa.Vu and one does not disturb the other...

I would actually to everybody RECOMMEND TO START WITH LOCAL functionality only - just to learn the program itself and its possibilities... Best regards, Jan

Hello L. Cleveland Major, as mentioned couple of times there is no any requirement to use the Cloud Sync feature. Just use it locally as it is set by default. It would have to be your active steps to enable the cloud feature. I very much understand your concerns, I myself hesitated few years before I skipped into the 'cloud train'. See my cloud comments below and above where I tried to explain why I consider Clipa.Vu approach relatively more secure than the plain text cloud storage.. Best regards, Jan

Jan, I appreciate your response. Just do not have a real need for this application. I have two computers and one smartphone. It is not the cloud that I don't trust. It is the internet period. There are lots of hackers out there and many are able to find ways to get your information. For that reason I keep externals for my most sensitive documents. As long as they are not connected while I am online, there is no way for anybody to get to that data. It is my preferred way to do things.

Hi Andy,

As said we will consider it. Actually we even consider logo change, so that would go hand by hand with new (less vivid) color scheme. I would greatly appreciate if you dropped a mail to support@clipa.vu and elaborated bit more closely what parts you consider 'too loud'. Having completely customizable UI would also be a good option but I am not sure that is doable anywhere soon...

I used to use a clipboard manager years ago, but never remembered the name of it or it was from here. For some reason I never found it again. I am so happy to finally find Clippa Vu today!

I've downloaded and installed very quickly. Using the new installation, I used Clippa Vu to copy and paste the license with no problems.

I came back here to leave a comment on how easy it was and saw the video. Loved it! Can't wait for Google Drive to be supported. That is my suggestion so far.

Installed and registered in a flash. Thank you Jan and GOTD for this super utility. One question: what's the location of the scene on your desktop. It looks like a miniature Great Wall. Thanks for your answer.

Hi Jacob,

Thank you! Happy it went smoothly. Regarding the desktop image... To be honest I do not know, I love traveling but this image just happened to be my current desktop the day I did the screenshots. If you figure out, please let me know ;)

Have a great day

Jan, Gaztelugatxe is an islet on the coast of Biscay belonging to the municipality of Bermeo, Basque Country (Spain). It is connected to the mainland by a man-made bridge. On top of the island stands a hermitage (named Gaztelugatxeko Doniene in Basque; San Juan de Gaztelugatxe in Spanish), dedicated to John the Baptist,

I have been using this program for a while independently of this offer, in the free version. It's an incredibly smart piece of software, as far as the features list is concerned. Its does exactly what a clipboard manager should do (and not more : an important point, since it's so easy to lose focus by piling up unneeded functions).

Also, the price point is so low, that buying the paid-for version would be a no-brainer and such offers would be unnecessary -- except to make the product known.

If, that is, it did not suffer from prohibitive drawbacks. The user interface is unmanageable. You can't possibly see where things are. The cute factor has overwhelmed the product, and thrashed all sensible rules for easy reading on the screen and interacting with the software.

There's a reason why all software looks alike, to a degree. This is a good thing. If all cars had a different number of foot pedals, and you needed to look up the manual to find the brake, driving would suddenly become a chore instead of a pleasure. Sometimes, boring is better than innovative.

Also, the user interface is incredibly ugly. Ugly, and loud. Offensive. In your face. Those colours... This negates the essence of a clipboard manager. A good one does not get in the way. It does not shout : here I am, look at me.

It's really a pity, because the user interface contradicts the inner design, which is precisely meant to assist when it's needed, and get the hell out of the way before and after.

Finally, this software is slow. Unbearably slow in some operations, which, again, negates the whole point of a clipboard manager. (Also : ridiculous name. Of course, this wouldn't matter if needs were met.)

I regretfully uninstalled it, and I have still not found a proper clipboard manager, which I would need very much. After having tried many and uninstalled many, I still use Outertech's Clipboard History, which is obsolete, not developed any more, severely lacking, but still : it does something useful, without getting in your way, so : better than nothing.

Hello Clairvaux,

Why? Why is my question? Why do you have urge to send a public critique but you ignore a constructive correspondence? Quite a strange attitude in my eyes.

Below is my mail from December 8th, 2016 - the mail you never answered. Please find a courage and contribute with the suggestion how to improve instead of publishing the same sentences over and over. We would so much appreciate that and it will lead to a better product for all the users...

I told you last time we would seriously consider UI changes but there must be a design and constructive ideas behind it...

Have a nice day
Jan

Hello Clairvaux,

Thank you very much for an inspiring email. Sorry for a slightly delayed answer. It was extremely busy days recently - partly connected to the giveaway campaign. And sorry in advance for not replying in detail, I will try to return to your mail point-by-point once I am back from vacation that starts Saturday and ends with the end of the year.

Maybe I would need kind of priorities from your side because I cannot change everything and your mail touches really many points. If you should select 3 most important change requests which will it be?

Some of the points are misunderstanding or yes, that is right in this case, my wrong design. For example your point about huge waiting time for popup tooltip once user hovers over some previously unexplored element. It was done on purpose that slow because later on once you know what the give element does it simply disturbs and becomes annoying to see all the time that settings icon calls "I am Settings" via its pupup tooltip. Actually I discovered a way nicer replacement for tooltips during the learning phase. So these will be replaced by something way nicer and user friendly.

As you see my mail would be extremely long if I reply to every single point already here...

"Ugly", "horrible"... well, yes, it hurts a bit. Yes, you are right, the design was done in the years of Metro. I will be happy to do the re-design that would serve for many feature years but that would be quite a huge effort and I have hundreds of other tasks... Are you by any coincidence a graphic designer? Would you be able to sketch some basics for better UI and better logo? We tried to bring some system. The colors might be childish but they are only 4 of the basic ones (used in logo) and we tried to reuse them in the app too to clearly signal in the user where he is. You see yellow and you absolutely and immediately know it is anything with favorites - I think this is a good aspect...

Fonts, the same story, please draw your own design, send me a sketch and I will be totally opened in consideration of changing. Not many people have that strong opinion about UI - so it again makes me to believe you know something about UX and UI. Please try it and send it over, it will be taken very very seriously.

Logo - I plan to run a campaign for logo redesign. Any ideas what would be better? I have mine and I have a strategy how to run it this time but every inspiration will be taken into account...

Shortcuts... I agree with your approach to right-click. I am not forcing to learn you new shortcuts. It's just an offer for power users. I spent DAYS thinking about it and still it never will be perfect. The idea behind was to learn everybody only ONE shortcut for the beginning. Pressing 3x Ctrl will quickly give you the option to get Clipa.Vu in foreground. Try 3x Ctrl and then press some number... It's fully up to you. Stick to mouse, learn the keystrokes if you want...

I must end here because of time. It is VERY INSPIRATIONAL to discuss these topics and see it through fresh eyes. I would love to continue in the future, let's see if we find any form and priorities.

Thanks again and all the best!
Jan

Hello Jan,

Actually, I never received your answer to my past and direct remarks. Thanks for posting it here, otherwise I would never have known of it.

I'm willing to put your unjustified allegation of my criticism not being constructive on you being the developer, not just a company representative. I understand that criticism may be taken personally (it shouldn't). However, if what I wrote is not constructive, I do not know what is.

Besides, you seem to have ignored the (quite considerable) praise on my part to focus only on the negative, and yes, I think GOTD readers may be interested in my experience of the software.

Picking up from your first mail, I see we may agree on some parts of my criticism. I indeed thought your weird interface came from first developing for Metro, and you confirm that.

You know how the Metro interface is hated -- there are good reasons for that : it looks terrific ; it has eye candy to the extreme ; however, it's very inefficient. The ratio between screen space and information conveyed is very bad. Why ? Because it has white text on coloured background, and furthemore the fonts are very thin. This is very difficult to read.

Windows tiles are bad enough, but in Clip à Vu they are much smaller, so the above defects are exaggerated. Also, Metro-style tiles have rather dark colours. Clip à Vu has light colours (yellow !), so text is even more difficult to read. Then, it's not even text : it's icons. And it's not only icons : it's very tiny icons !

Correcting the user interface would be my priority (and that would be an overhaul : not mere adjustments). Also : speed, which shouldn't be a problem since you said the slowness is deliberate (I didn' t understand why).

You're right I have some sort of professional background on those matters. It would be difficult for me to just send you a sketch pronto over the mail, proposing a better interface. This takes a thorough, painstaking approach as I'm sure you're aware. Hope this helps.

Hi Clairvaux,

This is much more constructive answer. Thank you, I appreciate that. I would not have taken it personally but I simply believed you ignored my email from December. I am happy to learn that it was not the case. Normally support@clipa.vu address works perfectly, I would prefer to move our conversation there. May I ask you to drop a mail there - you can simply copy & paste our conversation from here to that mail and to be 100% sure please also Cc clipa.vu@live.com.

And yes, there surely are points we would agree on. Like the yellow color - it was picked up as a symbol of favorite (star) but in real live it brought quite some problems. There will be more such points, I am sure, Metro as one other example ;-)

I would not expect any time consuming tasks from your site but it might be worth to shortly discuss some of the UI future changes...

Best regards
Jan

This looks like quite a useful tool; thank you for offering a sample!

One problem I'm having with it is that it requires full screen height, and I use a narrow strip across the top for magnifier. Ideally, I'd like to be able to reduce the size of the Clipa.Vu window and maybe use a scroll bar to be able to see the rest of its contents. Oh wait! I just found that I can shrink it slightly by using the bottom right corner -- thank you! So now I'll just jump on the bandwagon of those who want to be able to minimize the window. (Hi guys!)

Hi Jan - and thanks for allowing us 'free use' of such a useful tool.
However, I (like one of the previous commenters) feel I must ask for the ability to store this (and all its data) in a place of my choice.
Like many, I now have a relatively small SSD as my default boot drive, and I am very particular about what I load onto it. I'm very interested in using this program, but I'd really like to option of where to install it (on whichever drive, since my Backups are sync-ed by 'drive' rather than application).
if such a change is to be chargeable, then so be it - the program looks to be worth it!!

JohnW2, same same. My SSD is only 128Mb and have a 1 Tb HDD.
Hi Jan - do we need the Clipa.Vu.Desktop.Windows.msi file that is copied into a c:\ProgramData\Package cache? And second - as I'm on 64 bits can I delete the x86 folder created in the c:\Program File (x86)\Clipa.vu?thanks

Hi Mario, the msi if file is probably not needed and can be deleted. The x86 folder however must stay. At the time being this is the default location of the program... BR, Jan

A pleasant effect is that if you copy the key with copy before you install the program, so it will register itself :)

Since many uses SSD Hd as their C: drive and a D: partition that they have their programs, it would have been an advantage if you could choose the drive during installation.

Got this about a month ago and have been very pleased with it. There are other software's out there that do a similar job, but I'm happy with the program. The only gripe I have is there seems to be no way to minimize the gui.

To Jan, can you either tell me how to minimize the interface, or maybe add an update that includes the ability to minimize.

Hello Heavy Water,

I am glad to read this!

To your question: It minimizes if you click the taskbar icon again but I can clearly see that is not windows standard. This originates in the days when we first started with Metro app and first then created this Desktop app. I think adding the standard _ minimize icon will be the best solution. Give us some weeks please.

USEFUL AND NO PROBLEMS INSTALLING:

Downloaded, quick, installed in W-10 smoothly, registered by cut paste, and can call up with control control control ... no desktop icon needed. Program appreciated and will be used. Going back and forth cutting a paragraph and then the URL is slowing... this program means I can copy both then use in an email or report. Great

No thanks, I would not like to send my clips in the cloud and share with anyone.
This software has ability to communicate in the background too and that is another reason not to install it.

Reply   |   Comment by nathan  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-2)

Hi Nathan, as said on number of other places, nobody forces you to use the cloud feature. By default it works locally only!!! All the years we develop this program it worked locally only - the cloud sync is a new feature done in 2016. It is switched OFF by default. I do not know what you mean by "communicate in the background". It never ever sends any of your private data anywhere!!!!!! The only and only occasion when it sends anything is the crash report. In case of the crash it sends the info about crash detail so we get the chance to fix it. Have a nice day, Jan

Reply   |   Comment by Jan  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Jan, So, when it sends detailed crash report (info) to you back as you admitted above, is it not the clip file sent in the background to you?
I do not expect you to admit it, but it is sent as a hard wired default back to you.
Nathan is right, I will uninstall it too.

Reply   |   Comment by Mark  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Hi Mark, No, no and once again no. See below example of the crash report that sits in the top of the current list. There is (and never will be) any detail of your clips. What should I do with it? I am very happy to answer all the questions here, your question is fair and valid and I am happy to answer it too but the fact that you immediately answer it yourself without waiting to my reply I interpret as offensive. IMHO it is OK to observe new things with some level of skepticism but it is not OK to publicly cast suspicions without having any kind of proof. I love to fight for every potential user and will try to do my best without any exception but if you want to uninstall feel free to do so. With the level of mistrust you have it will not be joyful experience for you anyway...

Have a nice day

What a nice little program! And an even better website.
Not sure why there are (some) negative comments here. For me the program was easy to download, install and register (using Windows 10), and worked right away. Only 'problem' is learning how best to use it, as it is not that intuitive. For example, my previous clipboard manager only required single-click selection of the clip to make it ready to Paste. This one seems to require a double-click. Also, lots of little icons, but no 'tool tips' pop up to tell you what they are for; so you have to click them to find out, which sometimes can result in not what you want to happen! Selecting Help opens a webpage, but too much information there, so haven't absorbed all the instructions yet. I'm sure I will learn how best to use it as I go along. But despite these grumbles, I think it's a very good little program. Thanks to the developers and GOTD.

Hi mac,

Thank you! You are very precise and close to my current point of view. It's funny - I am aware of these problems but sometimes it takes time before one realizes his own mistakes ;) There is a plan to improve some of these points. First of all one tiny tutorial will be introduced. We know very exactly by now how to do it properly :)

- In Settings you can switch to single-click only.
- If you let your mouse hovering bit longer over some icon it will show the tooltip. This delay is probably too long...

Improvements will follow :)

Have a nice day

Follow-up: I don't keep shortcuts on my desktop I have a folder I keep them in instead. When I restarted c-v it recreated the shortcut on my desktop. I went into the settings and clicked on each tab but don't see a way to stop that from happening. Is that something you can address please Jan?

Unfortunately that would be annoying enough for me to uninstall.

That's not any feature we built in. It could happen if you re-installed the program but not by simply starting and using it. Please try again to delete the shortcut, exit Clipa.Vu and start it again. I am pretty sure it will not re-create the shortcut.

Jan,

I was using the shortcut that was originally created when I installed. I relocated it to my shortcuts folder. I deleted it and went to the installation folder and right clicked to create a new shortcut on the executable. That worked perfectly, it starts the program without recreating the icon.

Thanks again Jan, enjoying using the program.

Hi Growl24,

You very welcome! Thank you for your nice comment. We plan to create some videos where the particular features will be introduced. Filtering would be a wonderful topic. Please drop mail to support@clipa.vu so we have a reminder.

In general you start typing in the filter area and the number of clips will decrease to only the ones containing the given word. Plus there are some other filters, but for the beginning the text one should be enough...

I thought I'd give this app a try mainly because the author has been kind enough to reply to most post here, a lot of times in these giveaways they don't, and to be honest I didn't think it was something I could use or have a need for. But after playing around with it for a while and getting used to how to use it I really like it, and I can see this being very useful for me.

Some things I did to make it more friendly for my uses were - First I went to settings/general and selected "Hide from Windows Taskbar" because I don't like that it has a tab open at all times in the task bar. Second thing I done was turning off the autostart in Settings/Startups area and made a shortcut in my task bar for when I want to use it so that it doesn't run all the time, while I can see it being useful, I don't want it running all the time, and only when I have a need to use it. Third thing I did was turn off the notification for the cloud sync and drop box, I don't use drop box because I have had issues with that site. I only use One Drive, so I wish there was a local folder sync option where you could select a folder and have it sync there, because I could simply select a folder in my One Drive folder on my PC and One Drive would keep that synced automatically where I wanted it to go.

I do have a question, in the readme.txt it says updates are free until 1-10-2017, but the author mentioned a bug fixed version coming out soon, only problem is if I update I will lose the lifetime license?

Either way, it's worth giving it a try. Thank you for the giveaway Clip VU and GOTD.

Hi Clipper,

Thank you for your comment and time spent on it! Very appreciated.

I am glad the Settings worked for you. If more options needed just ask on support@clipa.vu.

No worries, all the updates you will be notified about (usually a minute or two after you launch the program) will be for FREE for the next 365 days.

OneDrive is the next one in the queue. It is not that simple, we cannot only put files to your local folder. We need to get some notifications from the given cloud provider. So unfortunately it will take some time before OneDrive and Google Drive get supported.

Stay tuned :-)
Jan

Why it's always on the taskbar? Is there an option for it be in the tray only?

Hi Pareidolia,

Of course there is such an option. Settings > General > Hide from Windows Taskbar...

Have a nice day

Pareidolia,

Yes, I set mine to be systray only, whether the app window is open or minimised.

Jan, yes, thank you! I should have looked better.

Doesn't give user option to specify installation folder - won't install anything on my system without that option.

Hi Tal Leyhoe,

We can very easily add that. Please drop a mail to support@clipa.vu. Actually it used to be there but we removed it as it was considered unimportant. Please realize the program itself takes only 9MB of your disk. More is consumed by the data and those are placed elsewhere - under C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming. Can you please explain why is that option important to you?

Thank you
Jan

Jan,

Because design conventions since 1995 put programs in program directories (*\Program Files*) and data in data directories (\Users\*). This is for security and for organization. (data are backed up differently than software--hard to do when they are commingled)

Reply   |   Comment by Rolo  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

Jan, I can tell you why it is important to be able to install to a different directory. I have a somewhat small SSD that my computer boots from, to help with the speed and a much larger HD that holds my data. If programs install only to the C: drive, it uses up available HD space way too fast.

Yes, but Clipa.Vu sticks to that convention... The (very tiny 7MB) program sits under *\Program Files* and its data under \Users\*.

However as said it is not a big deal at all. We will re-enable that option and it will be public within few days.

Best regards
Jan

Jan, I also demand that ability. For me its a matter of organization and structure. Disk space allocation being another concern.

Hello, I would like to inform you that from v 4.1.1571 forwards there is an installer option to select custom drive and folder.

Question: I am not expert on Syncing for sure, but I understand that Dropbox syncs for me via a unique email address/login.
If everyone downloading Clipà.Vu is being given the same Installation key and email address, how will it know what to sync across my machines?
How will it not sync everyone to everyone?
Where is the "uniqueness" necessary to separate between users?

A wonderful question, Encyclopedia Brittanica.

It is one email that is used for software activation and another one used for sync functionality. Some people will never believe the word 'Cloud' - to me personally it took a while to believe in that concept. For that reason 'Cloud' functionality is fully optional. You can use the program locally without any syncing. You activate that program via the shared giveaway@clipa.vu email.

If you however want to use Dropbox as cloud provider you will have to use your personal dropbox email address and password. Clipa.Vu will never get access to your dropbox password of course - the auth is done via your web browser. But using of your own dropbox account brings the 'uniqueness' you asked for.

I can clearly see we should extend the explanation on . We will try to do it soon.

Best regards
Jan

Jan, Firstly - I like it.
Thanks for that explanation, I of course wrote the original question a little blindly as I hadn't fully tested the syncing at the time. I have now done so using text only and it worked fine to my Dropbox account, although I was unable to turn off the notifications part as an individual app (a small point for me as I don't mind them arriving).
However, I have installed it on 5 PCs to test it out (I don't use all 5 obviously every day), but I found that I have to change the setting s on all 5 individually. In other words, one thing you could look to do is to SYNCH the settings as well as the data. If I make a change to the settings tomorrow as learn to operate the (not intuitive ) software, I really don't want to have to do this to another 4 machines (and my off-site one when I am there) as well. And then again the next change I make.
As an example - I use a PASSWORD MANAGER which achieves exactly that - I make one change to a setting and it is synced across all the vehicles, so it must be achievable.

I have been using this software for a while, I got it from a similar offer. I am very happy with it, I've not had any problems with it, I find it very easy to use and it does save a lot of time if you regularly have to use the same text. Thank you.

Hi Nick,

Oh, I thank you. I can see somebody down-voted your comment. Probably that person thought you are not the real user but some kind of Clipa.Vu alter-ego ;) Let's ignore all that 'politics'! You are right - it is our second promo. The first free offer was by the beginning of December. I am mega happy you still like the tool - if it survived more than a month of your testing there is a good chance you stay to be a long-term user! Thank you for that.

Enjoy
Jan

Jan, you are very welcome. Your customer service in this thread is excellent, that is always a positive sign for me that the developer regards the customer's experience highly. Thank you again for a great piece of software.

As Jan indicated, I have nothing to do with Jan and his company, I am just a satisfied user of the software.

Hello Jan,

I have an existing clipboard manager (ClipMate 7) which I have used for years, and I have a history of thousands of entries stored in it. How would I transfer/copy these entries to ClipaVu, and vice versa?

Reply   |   Comment by Aryeh  –  7 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Hi Aryeh,

There is no any direct migration feature - partly because we do not want to 'fight' any existing solutions. For many years I offered Windows Gadget (still existing on clipa.vu site) and even that one does not have any migration. We consider adding migration to that older product but in general we recommend this:
Try to run both apps at the same time - your current clipboard manager and Clipa.Vu. Then find the important clips in your old manager (surely not all of them are important) and copy them to Windows Clipboard. That move will be caught by Clipa.Vu and the clip will be stored. I admit this is still very manual but not as manual as for example transferring them via notepad ;) Please let us know on support@clipa.vu how this worked for you, we would consider improvements...

Best regards
Jan
