I downloaded it, but it would never accept my registration, so now I am relegated to the basic free version. Now I remember why I rarely try the giveawayoftheday offers! Very disappointed.

Downloaded but never received the registration code so I have not used it yet.

I'm looking for a good note system to recommend at work as sort of a Wiki or Knowledgebase. This sounded like it may be good for us. The only suggestion so far has been OneNote but I don't like how OneNote handles attachments.

CONCLUSION AND ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE LIFETIME LICENSE CONTEST WINNERS
=====================================================================
Wew, that was quite a ride! First of all, want to apologize of email issues. For some unknown reason popular email providers like Hotmail and T-Online started blocking our emails. We'll surely investigate what is the reason of this,
but: if you haven't received your key yet, send a mail to support@cintanotes and I'll send you the key directly.

Now, given how helpful the comments here were, it was simply not possible to pick only three. So we decided to award 5 extra Lifetime licenses to the best (in our opinion) comments and reviews!

The 7 Lifetime licenses (in no particular order):

#1 goes to Nathan Burbridge - for the best description of how CintaNotes is different from OneNote and Evernote;

#2 and #3 go to Mirakodus and Terry - for showing a power-user hands-on experience with CN;

#4 goes to Vopo - for a detailed experience report with various note-taking software;

#5 to lacanique - for a great review and long-time use of CN;

#6 to Clairvaux - for an extensive review and for helping out other people here;

#7 to Ken - for the most helpful critical comment

..And - surprise! one extra Lifetime license, #8, from me personally, goes to bird - for the most upvoted comment.

Winners: please claim your Lifetime license by sending an email to support@cintanotes.com

Everyone else who participated, but didn't win: sorry that you weren't chosen! But you still can get advantage of a great 50% discount with the GAOTD2017 coupon code. Or help us promote CN and we'll give you a license, more info here: http://cintanotes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1405

Thanks to the Giveaway of the Day site for providing us the opportunity to get our software in front of great people.
If you like CintaNotes, please tell about it to your friends and collegues. Also you're welcome to subscribe to our newsletter and YouTube channel.

Have a great week end!

Why do I prefer to use CintaNotes?
Nice and fast, small resource usage and portable.
Use the software to create/capture notes into organized notebooks per my study subject.
Portable so that can be used while on school lab PC and then sync at home.
Then take these notes and use my TEXT TO SPEECH software to get them into MP3 for listening while commuting to and from school. Save time and work the best !!!!

Why do I prefer to use CintaNotes?

The shortcut-clip feature that automatically adds the webpage links has saved me hours of typing. I am going back five years through newspaper articles, legal papers, video archives and anything else I can find relating to a cash-strapped non-profit, trying to find out exactly why it went from thriving to more than 25 million in debt in a little under five years. The color-coding and html export has helped tremendously also.

-Why do I prefer to use CintaNotes?
-Well... People seem to complain about it not offering some editing capabilities. It's a NOTE TAKING and NOTE MANAGER that has the uncluttered interface one needs to... taking and managing notes!, the first and only I found able to build large databases (once I build a ~10 k notes DB with unrivalled quick searching!) with easy keystrokes. Quick, easy to use, clean... I'm amazed people aren't using this for the last 20 years as their default note taking app!

You say, "FULL LIFETIME licenses". Does that mean this giveaway has a "limited time" license? If so, I wish you would have said so SOMEWHERE in your text describing the software offer. If not? You have a great piece of well engineered and thought out programming here! Great job y'all! :-) 5 Stars

Tom, my bad - thought that GAOTD would do it for me. But apparently not. The license never expires, but doesn't include any free updates. You'll have to use only the current version 3.7.
Thanks for the kind words about the program!

I downloaded this tool out of curiosity three years ago, and grow fond of it very fast. And now I'm spoiled.
Cintanotes makes everything simple, while other alternatives seems to make things difficult.

it's FAST - beside the standard installer, developer offers portable offline version which is small ( ~7mb ) and loads very quickly even on 2gb ram computer. No resource hog, no slow loading times. The UI adapts to OS theme, which I believe makes it very fast and has no ghost effects (damn you, spotify)

fast, no bloatware features
it's COMPACT - despite having simple interface, it provides many features to manage and keep lots of text clean and well arranged without tedious work. What I like most are the Sections, which allow to have each subject separately, but still keep them in one file. Also, each section can have it's own color. Everything can be set up from options drop-down menu. No unnecessary dialog windows.

very efficient UI, no bloatware "skins"
it's SIMPLE - Features such as Tag Sidebar and real-time Search Panel are intuitive and neatly done. Note editor offers many features such as standard text formatting, find&replace, indents, time-stamps, links, remarks, text alignment, word counter, file attachments (duh!), and so on.
Key shortcuts allows to quickly copy pages and automatically save them as notes.

well-arranged editor to work with

BONUS - 99% of it's features are free. Only the advanced ones such as export, embedded links, online synchronization, password protection, file attachments and auto-tag rules are in paid version.

I really like Cinta Notes for keeping track of ideas and code snippets when I'm working on an app. A lot of the time I'll get an idea but don't have time to explore it at that exact moment. Now I can just file it away quickly and come back to it when I have some extra time.

I can also use it to store code snippets that are interesting but not really needed for the current project.

I've been using Notepad for the same functionality, but it is much harder to find the notes I'm looking for -- especially when they are scattered among a number files. The tagging in Cinta Notes makes it very simple to find the ideas and/or code (as long as I tag them properly).

CintaNotes LIFETIME license offer - I'd love to have that. :)

First, thanks CintaNotes and GOTD for this giveaway!

Before CintaNotes, I was Evernote user. Heavy user. I'd little bit over 7000 notes at their server. I completely ditched Evernote (I'm still remembering that day - DEC 14, 2016), after reading TechCrunch news about Evernote new (shocking!!!) privacy policy. At there, "users will have to opt in to let employees read their notes for the purposes of machine learning". Who's gonna like to read their notes behind the curtain?

BTW, there's another Evernote crazy show in 2013 about security breach - that caused 50 million passwords reset in the end.

As soon as I knew about Evernote employees-reading-notes policy - I exported all my notes in HTML format, deleted them and said BYE BYE to Evernote on the spot. Hope all my notes would have been wiped out at their servers.

Then, after searching substitue for Evernote, I went with OneNote for notetaking. OneNote - that really blew my mind. Not in good way. :) After installing OneNote, I scanned and compared files / folders in my system. It added up almost 1000 MB with nearly 500 files!

Above all, there's no option to setup local notebook for OneNote unless I use Office 2016 (that will cost around $120 at Amazon for mere HOME VERSION).

With OneNote, AGAIN, all my notes were on Microsoft's OneDrive servers. Worst, couple months ago, zdnet.com pointed out Microsoft docs.com sensitive and personal files can be found through search engines without much effort.

Phewww... that's how I found CintaNotes two months ago.

I've got finder-is-founder moment after meeting CintaNotes.

I'm still learning CintaNotes capabilites.

It has more than enough functions that make my work and productivity without worries...

My notes are Mine... in My hard drive.

The best tagging system ever seen. It has better and simpler interface than Evernote. It can be run as portable application too. I've tested it on portable drive yet. For portability, big thumbs up! Surprisingly, with CintaNotes, I can sync my notes with Simplenote. But, hey, I'm not going that sync road again. Right now, I'm kinda scared stiff of CLOUD.

No need to hustle and bustle with cloud and servers when with CintaNotes.

Last, not least, thank you so much for CintaNotes for bringing me back on track.

I added one line in my bucket list -

I wish I'd have strength to hit delete button on my CintaNotes' note database file when lying on death bed. :)

Crossing my fingers for CintaNotes LIFETIME license giveaway...

First thing that struck me was that the extension for Cinta notebook is .db .
Maybe you might want to use a different extension instead (.cnb = cinta notebook).
.db is so generic that it will be difficult to search and find the Cinta notebook files.
A more unique extension will help us to quickly spot and open the files.

Reply   |   Comment by EW  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

EW, thanks for the idea. Yes, the extension is *.db for historical reasons. Probably we'll change that in future versions, but don't want to do it on a whim. Should coincide with a database structure upgrade.

Hi Alex, everyone,
I have a question I will need a super smart answer, the program says this PRO license will never expire, of course if I Update later on I understand it may revert to trial mode BUT, my story is this one, I have downloaded and Installed this program from a previous offer I got from this very same site, just today I opened the application to see and compare versions and I came across this strange message:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/edyxdcc1fhhzlve/cintanolicense.jpg?dl=0

Can you be so kind to explain please the reason behind this message? Why is it giving me that option? If I had updated to a recent version, it would have gotten automatically downgraded without any "warning" message like this one.

We all need an intelligent answer in layman's terms, please...!

Man dRB, the old license key is still installed on your system, but it is not valid for the current program version.
You need to hit "Downgrade", and then go to "Help/License" and install the newly received key.

Alex Jenter (CintaNotes Developer), hi again, maybe I'm confusing you, I have NOT downloaded nor installed the latest or any other version on top, I just opened it and found that message so what gives? It had been working fine and then yesterday that message appeared without installing anything? The theory of "current program version" does not apply since I haven't downloaded not installed any new version, so what can be your answer? That means we all expect that after a year or so the program STOPS working???

I installed older version of CintaNotes, so with today's giveaway I installed and am unable to get new key. After trying to renew license I see Pro version reverted back to Basic and license from last year is expired for Pro. I tried to renew license since I upgraded through downloading GOTD today and was sent email to purchase at renewal cost to get back to Pro version. I sent email to Alex @ support to supply me with an updated key for Pro version. Hope you get back to me before giveaway expires. Thanks Alex and GOTD. I have been using Cinta Notes since Version 2.8
It runs great and is perfect for recording details / your own comments etc of a web page.

We now live in a world where google and nearly everyone else wants to record your every move. They want all your bookmarks and so they take them right off your computer. Frankly, I find it creepy among other things.

I do not bookmark any longer, I use CintaNotes.

Cinta Notes allows me to store my "bookmarks" and my related comments in greater detail, somewhere else that's much harder to find for prying eyes.

THERE IS NOTHING ELSE LIKE CINTA NOTES.
IT HAS NO EQUAL.

The older V2.8 took about 25 minutes to get adjusted to, but it wasn't hard.
I made myself a cheat sheet and occasionally refer to it if I forget a hot key assignment.
In as much as Cinta represents a new way of collecting and arranging website / product data, it is NOT difficult to learn. Sure, everyone hates to learn a new product, but I found it's utility worth my while.

Thanks Cinta for making this available again through GAOTD !!

I have not bothered to write anything on this site for a while. Miss the old community it had, with the old format. But wanted to chime in about CintaNotes. I suspect I would count as a power-user for a note-taker. I take notes all 365 days a year, and I really mean that. That's why I wanted to comment on this one.

I have tried just about every note-taking app out there you can imagine. None are perfect. Yet, since 2009 when I began using CintaNotes, it is the only note-taking program that I have never stopped using.

All other ones, including the big names - OneNote and Evernote - have cycled and recycled through my workflow but CintaNotes has remained my daily driver.

The absolute best parts:

1. Native portable app: it has been sitting in a dropbox folder since 2009. Its database management is so meticulously crafted that it never encounters conflicts with dropbox sync. Could not say that for Zotero, for instance.

2. Small footprint: I have never, ever had to open the "Windows Task Manager" to shut it down. It never interferes with anything else. It uses little memory. And I have it starting with Windows right away.

3. Keyboard shortcuts: just about the most important feature. Select something to save - not just on the web but from any open window - and hit ctrl+f12 and it silently clips that in the background. Need a new note? Ctrl+f1 for a fresh window.

4. Unobtrusive: it sits in the system tray until you need it. So I can send as many clips to it as I need to and then - when ready - I can open it and quickly merge the relevant ones together (ctrl+m) and/or tag them (even via drag and drop). It does not try to outsmart you. The so-called "smart apps" try to take over your workflow. They want to think for you. They have weird suggestions. Pop-ups. Flat-ui. Cinta does what you tell it to do.

5. The data is yours: no snooping. You can sync with SimpleNotes for free. Or use your own solution. You have control over your data.

6. The best part: Cinta does what it does and does it very well. It does neither tries nor does it pretend to do everything. Most often that ends up with disappointment. Sure, it does not have mobile apps or a web-server. Do I wish it had? No doubt. But I rather have a software that I have relied on for nearly a decade than one that seems to be the cure to all my needs but ends up being more aggravating in the end and not fit my needs.

I can honestly say that the last three books I have published were made easier by this little gem.

I have been using the free version of Cinta Notes for a little less than one year. This is an exceptionally clever piece of software, and the only note-taking program I've found which fulfills my needs (I've tried a lot of them).

Contrary to many other programs, it does not pretend to do everything, but what it does is extremely well thought-out and executed. It's remarkable because it does not get in the way : it stands behind the scenes, guessing what you'd like to do and doing it with a minimum of fuss. You can bring it center stage in a blink, than dismiss it again instantly.

Cinta Notes excels in making notes out of chunks of rich text clipped out of another program, then searching them. The most obvious application for that is researching a subject on the Web. Browse an interesting article, select the text, hit Ctrl + F12, and that's it. You have just filed a note with the text of your article, its title, its URL and the time & date. The links within the original text are preserved.

You might want to edit the title a little bit, add a few tags, and even some remarks in a separate field. This is very quickly done, but again, it's optional. You don't need to bother about saving or doing backups : this is automatic.

Clipping can be done from any text file displayed in any program, not only browsers : pdf readers, word processors, you name it. And of course, you can create a note from scratch.

Search is exceptionally fast and efficient, combining a free-text search box and a well-designed tags system.

Part of the power of Cinta Notes comes from its "less is more" philosophy. Contrary to many other such programs, it does not use the folder metaphor : where others display hierarchical folders, on the left pane of the main window, Cinta Notes displays the tags list. The small number of menu items, an almost complete lack of icons and even the subdued color palette used for the background contribute to that aim.

Organising capabilities are not limited to a flat tags system, however. Hierarchical tags are available, combining somewhat the advantages of tags and folders. Separating notes into a small number of categories is done through tabs, spread across the top of Cinta Notes' main window (not to be confused with tags...), and creating different notebooks which can then be accessed through the file menu.

Interacting with the program is a joy, because the number of steps required to do anything has been cut to the minimum. Start typing on the keyboard while the Cinta Notes window is active, and this will be automatically understood by the program as a search request : no need to position the cursor in the search box. Right-click on a note then left-click on Delete, and the note is gone. No need to hunt a confirmation box and click OK. No need to panic, either : the program has its own recycle bin, and if you've made a mistake you can restore the note from there.

It's important to understand what the program does not do, so as to avoid misconceptions. Cinta Notes is a text-based program. You cannot paste a picture into a note. Nor can you paste a web page into a note. However, because it uses rich text and hyperlinks, you can link to an image or a web page, which in many cases is an acceptable substitute.

You cannot convert an existing stash of documents or notes into a Cinta Notes database. You'll have to create your notes from scratch. Cinta Notes cannot import anything, except from another Cinta Notes database.

Finally, check the online synchronisation features if you need them. I haven't tested them because I don't use them.

Clarifying my previous comment : I have been using the free version and my appreciation is based on that, however a few of the features I mentioned are specific to the Pro version offered here :

- Better display of hierarchical tags.
- Unlimited number of tabs.
- Easier access to multiple notebooks.
- Preservation of links when clipping.

Hi,
I have the previous giveaway of this software installed. It's 3.1.4. How should i update with this? Installing this version would leave my database intact? I'm asking this because i have had a bad experience of updating gotd softwares and lost databases. Thanks

hardgirl, yes, installed a new version should leave the db intact. However, do make an extra backup - it never hurts.

Why do I prefer to use CintaNotes?

I prefer to use CintaNotes because I always wanted a simple yet sophisticated information manager which should be portable, ready reckoner and handy when it comes to recall/retrieve something within seconds, that too without bugging my head. Never ever thought that such a nifty small application could do so much - Multiple Notebook with tags, wiki type links, file links as well as password for sensitive information with a clean interface. Seems like CintaNote team is keeping pace with time and saying "you name it & we have it" as far as features are concerned.

I downloaded, installed, license key appeared instantly, crtl-15 on email message pasted entire email window into program as title & activated license. Deleted message header in list, activation remained.

Looked around website support pages; it seems to have a lot of good options, not obvious nor necessarily intuitive, but very useful to the way I like to take notes for some purposes - more informal & intuitive, less structured than for formal research papers in One Note, for example. I do wish it would import images, including both graphics and photos. And allow markup of anything imported, both text and image. But it's a start.

Question: it says the license is good for a year of updates, but somewhere else says it is 10 days? Which is it?

Related: It also says it automatically checks for updates and notifies you at the top of the list that it's available, without automatically installing. However, there appears to be no way to keep it from doing this, and it doesn't show how many days are left on the free update part of your license. So it seems it would be really really easy to de-activate your Pro license accidentally by applying one of those updates just beyond the end of the license.

What can be done to prevent that? I don't particularly want to have to check license expiration in the Help menu registration section every time it shows me an update is available!!

Mindy M., this license will never expire, but it's good only for the current version 3.7. If you want to update, you'll have to renew/upgrade license. If it shows that you have 10 days left, it means that you haven't registered the giveaway license key and are still using the trial mode.

To disable automatic update check, go to "Help/Check for updates" and untick "Perform this check automatically"

I realize this is a Windows program, and I use Linux Mint.

Under Wine, and registration fails.

Mary, very sorry but CintaNotes is Windows-only and doesn't work under Wine.

Alex Jenter (CintaNotes Developer),

Hi Alex... JFYI, it seems to have installed under Linux Wine (mint release).

However I never got the GAOTD went I registered as per the readme.txt link = http://cintanotes.com/gaotd

So it indeed seems to work, but no key, it's the free version. All for your info.

~ Mary ~

Dear Alex, I realize that the GAOTD is over, but I tried again to register at http://links.giveawayoftheday.com/cintanotes.com/gaotd

and once again it took my info, no error message that the GAOTD was over, but similarly, no key. If you send me a key, I'll let you know how it works under Linux Mint Serena v18.1.

Sincerely, ~ Mary ~

Mary, hello! Yes it seems to work but the note editing doesn't properly work because Wine doesn't emulate the Microsoft's Rich Edit component to 100%. But if you wish I'll send you a key. Please drop a mail to support@cintanotes.com referring to this comment.

Got the key with no problem, entered it and it appears to have accepted it in that the PRO license is ticked now and the text says Fully Functional Version, Expires: Never, and Free updates until 5/26/17. The real issue is that the OK button on the License window does nothing and that window will not go away unless I Cancel or close it via the "X" and either of those two cancels the entering of the key. I have tried 5 times now, including restarting the program. I see no error messages at all.

Leo, it seems that the program can't write the license file.
Where did you put the CintaNotes folder in?

Please try the following:

Option A: Try running CN as admin, then registering the key
Option B: Try putting CN into a different folder outside of Program Files.

Please let me know if this helps, thanks!

To Giveaway of the day,

After sharing the giveaway, the download link isn't displayed, fix this issue please.

Reply   |   Comment by reussiteoisillon  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-2)

Same problem for me - I clicked the usual blue link to share it on FB, which it appeared to do, but the link did not turn green, so there was no way to download it. I tried clicking the blue again, using a different 'share' group, but still nothing happened to let me download the programme I'd just told them all was worth having.

It can't be that I already had a GAOTD copy from before - that was on a previous computer, and I lost it when I replaced the old one recently.

Oh well - c'est la vie.

It always helps to read the EULA ...

The Pro License restricts the use of the SOFTWARE PRODUCT to the person the SOFTWARE PRODUCT is registered to.

The Pro License does not expire and Pro License holders are entitled to free updates for 12 months following the date of purchase. After this period you may purchase an extension to the free update period.

goober, sorry but this is not correct in this case. This giveaway is for a Promo PRO license which has slightly different terms: it doesn't include 1 year of free updates.

Hi everyone,
Thanks to all who commented!

Unfortunately can't reply individually, so I'll gather the most important points in one comment here.
First of all, thank you all for your attention to our product. Even if it is negative. We'll do our best to make a better product.

IMPORTANT ANNOUCEMENT RE. EMAIL DELIVERY
It seems that our emails don't reach people with @t-online.de, @web.de and some other email providers.
If you are waiting for an email with the license key and it doesn't arrive, please do the following:
1) If you have another email address, try entering it instead on the online activation page. Gmail is known to work ok.
2) If you don't have another email, or it doesn't work too, please send a message to support@cintanotes.com.
I will personally send you your PRO key. No one will be left without one, don't worry!

Also, to clear things up with license duration:
- This is a promotional PRO license that NEVER expires, but it valid only for current CN version.
- Updating to a CN version released after May 26th will require upgrading the license, or going back to free version.
- With this license, you receive the right to RENEW the license and get full PRO and Lifetime PRO licenses with our usual renewal discounts ($19.50 for regular PRO, $79.99 for Lifetime PRO).

Unlike many folks, I had no trouble downloading and activating Cinta Notes. Everything was up and running in less than five minutes.

Overall, this looks like a very stable program for taking notes and sharing those notes via the cloud. The program could, however, be a little more intuitive to use. There are no instructions or guides on the text editor and it initially appears that essentially no formatting is possible. There is, however, a right-click menu that offers a variety of formatting options. Many of these options can also be implemented via key combinations. I see all of this as a brief stumbling block. Once you discover the menu and key options, this becomes a very useful note-taking program.

I basically have two complaints about this program thus far, and both are more personal preferences than actual problems. First, the use of a tags rather than folder approach makes organization more difficult. Second, the full price for the software is rather high given its purpose.

Reply   |   Comment by kasmol  –  6 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

kasmol, thanks a lot for your great remarks! Tags have their advantages, you just need to get accustomed to them and you won't wish to return back to folders or categories. Especially when you start using hierarchic tags and tag union/intersection/subtraction tools.
About price: unfortunately this is the lowest price that can sustain the project alive. Also there are many ways to get a license with a big discount, or even free (like here for example). Basically, if you help us promote CN, the price for you is drastically reduced. More details here: http://cintanotes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1405

Why do I prefer to use CintaNotes?
The answer is simple, I use CintaNotes as a knowledgebase and its very easy to find the information you want by using the Tags and the query syntax search
Literally you can search thousands of notes and you can find exactly what you are looking for in seconds , I did not find any notes application has this power.

What I forgot to mention in my previous comment: it would be nice if CinataNotes have the (option) to save the color(-s) in text that is drag and drop into CN. Now everything is black ... and you can not colour the text afterward in CintaNotes. Why not? I don't know, but first Windows 3.1 (more than 25 years ago) have this already on board ...
