Captain Tray Pro is a simple and effective tool for System Tray and TaskBar management. Many users need several applications running simultaneously. Some of those applications are used quite frequently, others - only when they are needed. So, the Windows taskbar can once get fully packed - everything seems to be necessary, and you have no desire to close any programs. Some applications can be minimized to the system tray (the area by the clock in the bottom right corner of the screen), but what shall we do about 'Notepad', 'Calculator', 'Microsoft Word', 'Microsoft Excel', and other our favorite programs? Captain Tray Pro is right there to help you.

The program allows you to easily minimize active windows to the system tray, taskbar or hideboard. Working with Captain Tray Pro is similar to working with file managers. The program's interface was specially designed to let its user manage the contents of the desktop with the same ease as he manages the contents of his computer's disks.

would like to try this but there's no point unless it is actually register-able...any thoughts you awesome GOTD folks?

(i must admit that i am sad to see the recent frequency in programs either unable to register or giving spy/malware...not that i blame GOTD, but i think perhaps they need to invest a few extra minutes into making sure what they offer will work for those willing to test it. this is not a complaint, simply a small observation from someone who has happily frequented this site for over a year. heck, i'd even help out with testing on various platforms, making sure the codes work, etc - please let me know if i can be of some help!)

thanks again for the offer, GOTD, but without a code that registers the program, I will be unable to test it as thoroughly as one might hope when being used as a tester :)

Anyone else running Vista 64-bit OS get this POS app to accept the registration? After I enter the GOTD code from the readme.txt the app says "Thanks, now restart me in order for the registration to take effect" and when I do it always opens up as still unregistered! I've tried registering both ways (during the prompt which displays as the app is launched AND via the Help > Register menu item. Screw it, why am I even bothering with an old version if 6.5 is available elsewhere.

Just after midnight, I went to the captaintray.com website, and got a warning from the Firefox WOT (Web of Trust) extension. It rates the website as unsatisfactory. I've been checking back all day to see if anyone else got that warning, but haven't seen a mention of it. With so many people having problems, I'm glad I passed on this one. Thank you, GOTD, I look forward to each new day to see the offer and read the comments!

Today's GAOTD is the same version that was offered here in May and there are no new features that I could find.

Can anybody tell me if I am wrong?

From reading the comments it looks like today's version has some problems installing. Bolon #61 is saying that the key given in the version offered in May works on today's installation, so it seems like I am not wrong, that Almeza is giving away the same software that was given in May.

If you want comments for today's software head out to the page from May's offering. They all should apply here too.

Ahhh, A free day for me.

Hey I know people aren’t supposed to post key details here, but the one bolon posted worked fine with today's copy. I've been trying to register it with today's key on and off all day, even re-downloading the file each time and deleting the installed one from my computer before reinstalling it again and again. I'm surprised I bothered really as I'm not sue whether I want to keep the software yet anyway. I've got others that do the same job. Though I do like to compare software and make an informed decision as to which I think is the best, rather than listen to much of what's said here. (No disrespect meant to those that review the software properly)

I allowed it to overwrite the original, so If I hadn't seen bolons post (whether it'll be allowed to stay is another matter) I'd probably have lost the program totally. Anyway, , I'm thankful as it worked first time using the old serial number.

B.T.W., I'm posting tomorrows game (Day 5) early today because I need yet another early night. So if you follow the link below you'll find another reasonably decent freeware game. Actually I've posted three games, two of which used to be commercial games but were made abandonware a few years ago after newer versions were released. Actually, all three games have already been mentioned in the forums over the last year. I just thought they were good enough to be repeated. Besides I reckon if the better ones aren’t repeated they are soon forgotten.

The three games are DXBall, Beatball and Wrekerball Dreams. I do think that all three are available via the giveaways freeware library.

http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/forums/topic/3856

You’ll find today’s game posted at the end of the thread. If you want more arkanoids there’s a really good thread in the games discussion forums that contains at least 7 or 8 full version commercial arkanoids (including Nuclear Ball and Gem Ball from Erse games though they have had there names changed and also a game from Elefun games called Twinzoid (t that name has been changed as well) , and all are of the 3D variety apart from the latter. All of them are free together with many many more freeware ones.

I was unable to get the program to recognize its registration too. I tried all the different places in it that it has for trying to register too, which includes the popup that first comes up, the "about" section of the prog interface, and the "registration" section of the interface, each time restarting as instructed only to have it open again as unregistered.

I would suggest that the developers only have ONE place to enter registration code, not 3 different areas to try to use for registration.

A fix for the problem of the program refusing to properly register and reflect as registered, is URGENTLY NEEDED!

Why would a developer and GAOTD want to offer a program that's already 2 years old?

From what I found while investigating, there is no really current version of this software yet in existence.

I've been popping in for a couple of days now, and one thing is clear.

Nothing here is superior to freeware options available.

Your wasting our time by advertising for these people in the hope that theres people dumb enough to pay $30.

The difficulty people have of registering software is clear indication of that. You try and try and end up buying. (or so you hope)

In taskbar, its easier to change to different windows using Alt+Tab..

So no download today.. Let me visit tomorrow..

This is retarded... I used to think GOTD was terrific but the only real useful software I've gotten was Macrium Reflect which has saved my windows PC twice already. This crappy software like today's is just garbage. It's like there is an army of first time programmers out there writing things and trying to sell them. This isn't innovative or even really useful. Let's have REAL software. No more notepads, magnifiers, video converters, memory optimizers, task managers, tray organizers, etc., C'mon GOTD. Get with it.

I use trayit!, a freeware utility, and it works perfectly on Vista and XP.

I would recommend it to anyone. You simply hold down the shift key while hitting the minimize button, and the app is sent to the tray. You can also customize the app so that specific applications are always sent to the tray - for example, I always send Windows Calendar and Thunderbird to the tray, so they are always active but never cluttering the task bar.

Another alternative to this program, which I haven't seen anyone mention yet, is TaskSwitch XP Pro. This FREEWARE program is easily installed and runs automatically every time you turn on the computer. It allows you to minimise programs to the tray simply by right-clicking that program's Minimise button. Not only that, but it also upgrades the "Alt+Tab" function of your computer to allow you to see thumbnails of what you're Alt-tabbing to, and even adds visual styles to the dialog. It only works for Windows 2003 and XP though (and maybe Vista but it's not been tested).

I can confirm that entering the included registration information does not work.

In fact, it started out registered when I installed it, apparently having picked up the license from the earlier version I got here a while back.

I tried entering the included registartion info anyway, just to see what would happen, and it actually caused it to become de-registered!

Recopying the ctp.key file included with the older version into the installation directory fixed this and caused it to become registered again, but this obviously isn't going to help those who don't have that file.

It's over seven hours into this giveaway and neither GAOTD nor Almeza has bothered to do anything to fix this despite numerous reports of the problem.

Hmm... Not registering. Apparently, the program can save the registration info (check ctp.key in its program folder). However, the program seems to have trouble reading the key file, and reverting to a trial. The key seems valid, though. When there are future versions, try downloading it from their website, as the trial screen shows "Free future upgrades".

The key provided with todays version of Captain Tray Pro 6.4 is wrong. The "Enter code" dialog accepts the code, but the code is not valid, so the program continues as a 30 days trial. It seams as the code we got today is for a different Almeza product, because it's to long. The code should be 52 characters (including the dashes). Todays code is 59 characters.

Those of you who have the previous version of this giveaway, can install this new version to a different directory, and copy the file ctp.key from the old version directory to the new version directory. That will cause the new version to become registered correctly.

Hope this can be to some help.

Small program & small download. As noted the trial download is not working at the developers' site. More importantly, and as noted several times in comments, there's a problem with the program not accepting the license key given... Imagine quite a few folks are going to wait until that gets sorted out before trying Capt. Tray Pro - know I am, as I just removed it.

3) Copy Paste into registration screen via HELP menu after first install
4) Manual Input into registration screen via HELP menu after first install

Good Morning! I have some cuestions for you and I hope to get good ansers: I read even in the German section that there are problems with the registration of this program. The thing is, I have already the older verson of this program installed and I won´t like to loose it when I install the newer one from today. So, what should I do? Do I have to uninstall first the older version and then install the newer one? Or can I let the older version on my pc and install anyway the newer one? Will I loose the older one or will I have two different versions which I can open independent? My last question is: Is it ok for the computer to have the same programs, but from different companies? For example I downloaded in the past similar programs like this one of today and have a really collection of it. But I don´t know if I will harm my PC with this. Or doesn´t it matter? For sure I am not the only one who is downloading almost every day programs from this site because it is free. All programs offered here promise to do a great job, but to have similar programs like the converters, do they affect in a negative way our PC´s? Sometimes we don´t have so much time to test them and so our Hard Disc is getting fuller and fuller. Thanks for your time and answers. I really apreshiate it. Have a great day!

I have different issues with this software.

1) Registration does not work: I tried 3 times with no success.

2) The program puts itself in the autostart entries on installation: nothing wrong with that except it's untraceable i.e. you can't see the folder where it's running from like it's the case for other programs in the startup entries.
That's suspicious for me.

3) I trusted this company until now.

There is already a version 6.5 being sold at $18.95 from shareware sites.
Why give us an old version of the software priced higher ($34.95) than version 6.5?
Why are prices so different?

I agree with drawkcaB about the price - a lot of software is heavily overpriced IMO. Imagine you sell 1 million copies of your software, and you charge $29.95, which is a common price for a program, and you have earned perhaps $20.000.000 after tax and expenses. Ridiculous considering it may take one man just a few hundred hours to make such a program, plus that there are hardly any expenses when making new copies, like there is when you produce a car or a computer.

Another trend is to sell your program for an unreasonably high price, and then regularly offer it for half the price so people think it's a bargain.

Check out Metaproducts TrayIcon Pro, it has the same features as this program plus a lot more, and cost only $22 (still overpriced you may say, but at least not that much). And it's rock stable.

I use Trayit at the moment (as mentioned by lureho 4#).
I still have some programs that I don't send to the tray (it's a bit full).
Those (non trayed) programs can clutter up in the TaskBar.

rxiaoy (9 #) mentioned DM2.
I had a read of their web page.
It has a feature where you can remove apps from the Taskbar, to a list.
They describe it as 'hiding them', but it has the end result that they are gone from the Taskbar, and are not in the Sys Tray.
You can call up a list to 'unhide them'.
I like the sound of that.
Can Captain Tray Pro do that ?

Rob
